We’re going to Sardinia in July after some amazing holidays in Croatia. We love swimming, snorkelling and amazing food but don’t have a huge budget.
We’re staying on the SE coast and would love to get your best quiet beaches (happy to walk, have a car hire), food markets and reasonably priced restaurants. Bonus points for rocky/pebbly beaches. Thank you!

Sorry to jump in on your thread OP. I was dithering about booking the place in tertenia when I saw this thread, which convinced me just to book it. It's fate! I very nearly ended up in the eurocamp place in sardinia but couldn't get the flights and dates to line up. Anyway the self catering bungslows in tertenia look much nicer anyway!

@twtwilighteaser ,sorry to pick your brains again. Im doing a lot of online research and just wondering if you have to pre purchase beach tickets to any of those beaches you mentioned? I only just stumbled upon the fact that some of the popular beaches need to be booked!

wowsaidtheowl · 04/07/2023 19:36

@TheLurkingOne I think some needed permits - we found lots of info for booking things on the app Heart of Sardinia.

Thanks @ttwilighteaser I'll check it out!

TheLurkingOne · 05/07/2023 10:34

Sorry, meant to say thanks to @wowsaidtheowl 😊

twilighteaser · 05/07/2023 19:59

@TheLurkingOne no, I've never purchased a beach ticket ever in Sardinia and I've been there more than 20 times! All the beaches I've mentioned are free beaches, so you can just take your towel and beach umbrella and plonk yourself on the sand! There are not rows of sunbeds for hire, like you see in Rimini for example which is the sort of holiday we'd avoid. However on Foxi Manna, La Duna beach bar has a few which are paid.

wowsaidtheowl · 05/07/2023 20:06

@twilighteaser that’s good news! I read somewhere and found booking for permits for Cala Goloritzé and I was worried that I’d have to be up at dawn 48hrs before to get one!

We loved the murals in Orgosolo.
Or you could drive up to Arbatax and take the Trenino Verde to Gairo.
We used to take it every summer from Seui to Arbatax, and it’s the most beautiful scenery.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 05/07/2023 20:24

sardiniagreentrain.com for a booking site in English.

twilighteaser · 05/07/2023 20:27

@wowsaidtheowl Sorry I got you mixed up! Anyway I arrived at Cala Goloritze by boat as I mentioned earlier and even there we sat on our towels, but I've just had quick look and it seems that since 2022 you do have to pay, I'm completely shocked! I haven't been to that particular beach for a couple of years, so I didn't know but you defo don't pay for the beaches in Pedra Lunga, Tertenia, Bari Sardo etc. I've been on them recently and they were free.

twilighteaser · 05/07/2023 20:29

Agree about the Green train route. I've never been on the actual train but have been to those villages by car. Orgosolo is well worth a visit.

wowsaidtheowl · 05/07/2023 20:51

@twilighteaser i suppose it’s to keep the numbers down so maybe not a bad thing! Looks like I will be scrambling for a ticket!

Can I jump in and ask where you fly from and is it direct?

twilighteaser · 06/07/2023 08:26

You need to fly into Cagliari if you can which is just over an hour drive up to that area, if not Olbia which is around a 3 hour drive down to it. Alghero
is around 3. 5 hours. so far away really. I know Gatwick and Stansted fly direct to Cagliari but don't think anywhere else does.

Maraudingmarauders · 06/07/2023 10:07

Wonderful, thank you!

TheLurkingOne · 01/08/2023 18:29

@twitwilighteaser I just wanted to say, we just got back from Tertenia, and we used your post as a manual for our stay. Literally I had a screen shot of your post and referred back to it daily. The info was spot on, very handy! Amazing! We loved the area, though we stuck mainly around the marina di tertenia. Thanks for taking the time to write that very detailed and helpful post!

twilighteaser · 01/08/2023 21:43

@TheLurkingOne ah thank you, that's a lovely comment 😊I'm so glad the info was useful. I'll be there myself in a few days & can't wait!

wowsaidtheowl · 07/08/2023 18:30

Here are my thanks to @twilighteaser too - we’re back from Foxi Manna today and had a wonderful time using all your info. Absolutely loved Cala do Pedra Longa and having lunch at the restaurant on the rocks and would never have discovered it without your advice. Thank you!

@wowsaidtheowl thank you so much too for the lovely comment 😊I'm so happy you managed to visit the places including Pedra Longa. This part of Sardinia really is a beautiful place!
