I always try to make beds, bins emptied, Bleach in loo after last person has used it, house spotlessly tidy, washing up to date so machine is free for holiday laundry when we get back, heating timer off, bleach in sink, fridge emptied of anything that will go off while away, Food delivery booked for the next day

Some buildings just have mice regardless of cleanliness. Tenements are particularly bad for it.

Yep, I do all that. Can't face the thought of coming back home to an untidy home. We also change the bedding, empty the dishwasher, etc. I want the house to be ready to walk into with literally nothing needing doing.

That way I can concentrate on emptying the suitcases and putting things away, getting the washing we've brought back into the washing machine, etc. I aim to have everything back to a "pre holiday" state within 24 hours of returning home, i.e. suitcases empty and back in the loft, all holiday clothes washed, ironed and put away, etc.

We arrived back from a short break on Saturday afternoon. By Saturday evening, it was as if we'd never been away!

She said they don’t leave anything out so that they don’t encourage flies. You know what they say about assuming…
