Can anyone point me in the direction of decent eateries for either lunch , snack or evening meal please?
At this point I am heartily sick of people telling me about the cannabis cafes and Red light district etc etc etc, it's all they seem to comment on. I'm going for the culture and hopefully good food!

Pesca!

Lars is an absolutely amazing restaurant. It's pricey but it's one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had in my life.

cannibaleroyale.nl

Cannibale if you are a meat fan.

MangshorJhol · 30/04/2023 19:10

For Rjistaffel (Indonesian food Dutch style) go to Kantjil and de Tiger or Annapurna.

Squeaky2023 · 30/04/2023 19:20

This place. Nepalese food and one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam: www.bhattipasal.nl/

I went to Foodhallen a few weeks ago - it's great, although probably more of a lunch place: https://foodhallen.nl/venues/amsterdam

Proeflokaal A. van Wees is beautiful, charcuterie and cheese. Nice wine and lovely atmosphere, by the canals. More lunchtime nibbles than tea though

twilightcafe · 30/04/2023 19:34

I'd recommend Foodhallen as well.
It is open (and busy on a Saturday night) in the evenings, so you can have dinner there.

gingersnappz · 30/04/2023 19:37

Use the vending machines for croquettes and have the fries with satay sauce!

Bpickle1 · 30/04/2023 19:38

Also Feebo for late night snacks especially if experiencing the lock culture… feebo v good and shouldn’t be missed

Try the southwest area around Vondelpark. The streets all around the square called “Cornelis Schuytplein”. There’s a really nice Italian there (can’t remember the name) and a good steak restaurant called Carter.
The area south of the Rijksmuseum is also good. La Dilettante Amsterdam - Natural Wine Bar and then there’s loads of nice cafes and restaurants on all the streets around there.
Just head about 10/15 mins out from the “centre” and you’ll find loads of nice places that aren’t touristy or “red light”.

Some good restaurants on Spuistraat. Kantijl & de Tijger is an Indonesian restaurant, and D'Vijff Vlieghen is an old-fashioned Dutch restaurant - a bit touristy but still good!

Hbh17 · 30/04/2023 19:55

Spuistraat includes a decent selection of places, including traditional type bars that do (effectively) good VFM pub grub. Also, Lucius, which is a fabulous fish restaurant (you need to book).
The Rijksmuseum has a nice cafe for lunch.

Dottymug · 30/04/2023 19:55

De Waaghals is a great vegetarian restaurant.

This Indonesian restaurant is incredible

SirenSays · 30/04/2023 20:12

The vegan junk food bar. It's really cute, the food is great and they do nice cocktails. You should try a tipsy unicorn 🦄 🍹

ArianahX · 30/04/2023 20:13

I want to know this as my mates and I found it hard to find a non smokers coffee shop like costa eg.

LolaBlue36 · 30/04/2023 21:22

Cafe Winkel 43 does the best Dutch apple cake - a must!

Bellie99 · 30/04/2023 21:56

Foodhallen is great fun
Secret Garden is amazing (went for daughters 18th) very social fusion food. www.secretgardenamsterdam.com
The chicken bar - when we went it was packed with locals and lovely older couples sharing chicken and still holding hands. www.thechickenbar.nl/en/

ZenNudist · 30/04/2023 22:29

I came on to recommend foodhallen.

Need to keep this thread for recs for July. I fancied a rijstafel to be different.

midsomermurderess · 30/04/2023 22:41

I was going to tell you about the nice little coffee shops that sell very interesting cakes; Then I re-read your opening post and decided not to. I'm sorry not to add more, not much help to you but all the best.
