Is there anything that can be done? Lost passport

This is for a family member (it genuinely is!).
She is due to go abroad on Sunday but cannot find her passport. Aside from trying to sell the holiday, is there anything that she can do to avoid losing all the money at this stage? I know passport offices are either striking now or are due to.

Thanks

You can get a premier service passport but need at least 2 days notice for an appointment so she’s just out with that. How annoying.
How close is she to a passport office to risk driving to one and chancing it?

She’s actually fairly close to one, I’ll suggest she goes there. She’s checked for appointments but there are none which isn’t surprising. I go away in 7 weeks and have just made hubby find all our passports!

Emergency appt at passport office, anyone she can drive to and pay to delay a flight a day?

tanstaafl · 13/04/2023 10:22

Is she going alone or with family?
If it’s the latter it might be worth going for the 2 day passport service anyway and flying out later ( if she can get flights with easyJet/Ryanair/jet2 ).

Emergency appts is 2 days minimum from the day you book.

apols if she’s already checked - but has she looked in her printer - under the cover where you put things to photocopy? I thought I’d lost my passport but had left it there after needing to photocopy it. Because I photocopy so rarely I didn’t lift lid of printer for ages…

Lost passports normally take longer, I thought it was 7 days but haven’t checked recently. Finding it would be the best solution, that’s where I’d put my energy

I did this as well!

I think we established on this recent lost passport thread that the fastest you can get a replacement when a passport is lost (rather than expired) is 7 days. I think this is what it says on the gov.uk page.

Similar happened to us. Nothing you can do within the timescale. DD went on holiday to Wales instead of Spain.

Greenfree · 13/04/2023 18:39

Has she checked all handbags and luggage etc? That's where I normally find mine

Forever42 · 13/04/2023 18:41

Can they move the holiday? They won't get a replacement passport before they travel.

Emilyjayne9421 · 13/04/2023 19:37

She has managed to sell the holiday. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I told her it will turn up next week when they are supposed to be there!
