Anybody else really boring on holiday?

BG2015 · 09/04/2023 23:34

We're currently on holiday in Mexico. It's amazing, fabulous hotel and just loving our time here. Both mid fifties and done the holidays with mates plus holidays with young and then teenage kids. Our time now.

Explored the area, day on the beach and done a couple of trips but our day to day is pretty boring really.

We're early risers so breakfast is 7-7.30am. Down by the pool by 8am. Early morning sun and the quiet is bliss. The noise of the animals and birds so different to the U.K. birdsong.

Couple of iced coffees when the bar opens at 10am. Reading, listening to music, swim. Lunch at 1 ish and afternoon, few cocktails and back to the book under the shade.

Evening meal at the a la cartes around 7pm, last drink in the bar and we're back in our room by 9pm.

We just can't seem to extend our evenings. We're both quite happy with this, don't think I could stay up until 11pm.

Anyone else in a similar holiday vibe?

Sounds like absolute bliss to me !!

Bliss

Dh always wanted to go to Mexico.does it feel safe? Is there any day trips worth doing? I’d say the food is lovely

redheadcurl · 09/04/2023 23:38

Sounds amazing

Hellokittymania · 09/04/2023 23:39

It’s all about perspective, that sounds great to me, but maybe to someone on spring break at university would think that’s really boring. I go for it though, especially the iced coffee, what are you reading?

enjoy yourself

TizerorFizz · 09/04/2023 23:45

@BG2015 Sounds 100% boring to me. We left this sort of holiday behind years ago. Even with DC we had a fantastic array of holidays. We have seen amazing things. I’ve lazed on some fantastic beaches. Been in beautiful pools the world over. However we’ve experienced so much more. You would have to pay me now to take a “do nothing” holiday. I’m bored after a day.

StagsLeap · 09/04/2023 23:46

It wouldn’t be for me, but you would probably regard my holidays (long distance hiking or seeing literally every work of art in a major city) as pure hell! I mean, one person’s boring is another’s bliss.

gogohmm · 09/04/2023 23:56

Nope, similar aged and still dancing past 1am . Life is too short to go to bed early! That said, what's breakfast Grin

BG2015 · 10/04/2023 01:41

Everyone's life experiences are different I suppose.

Life is pretty much full on Mon- Fri back home so it's nice to chill.

We've done some city breaks too recently, London, Prague, new year in Edinburgh- so we aren't total slobs. Grin

We're staying in Playa Del Carmen, feel totally safe. Great mix of nationalities here which is good.

I LOVE a holiday like this, me and my husband used to go away somewhere warm first week of January every year and did pretty much exactly as you describe. We are self employed and December is manic so a holiday like this was exactly what was needed to reset.

Mother87 · 10/04/2023 02:23

Blissss

WandaWonder · 10/04/2023 02:31

We are part time boring, we tend to get up early and run around like mad doing stuff then all need a rest in the afternoon and go out for an early dinner if we have not had a big lunch, then watch TV till bed time, we don't do big night outs

We can only do a few hours on a beach before we get bored, even the lazy teenager we let tag along 🙂

Mumma · 10/04/2023 02:39

What you described is 100% us! Oh the relaxation!! Im so jealous of you!

We took it a step further and get swim up rooms so we dont nees to be near the general public at the pools haha

Ponderingwindow · 10/04/2023 02:43

That is a perfect holiday for me.
I want to relax. My life is full of activity. I don’t need more of that on holiday.

Abraxan · 10/04/2023 03:38

We don't get up very early on holiday - depends on breakfast times normally.
And we don't generally go to bed late either - normally between 10:30-11pm where we read for a bit. Have no desire to be up really late.

My holidays are partially to relax and make up for sleep missed when at work.

Abraxan · 10/04/2023 03:44

We have a mix of holiday types.

Some are city breaks, some are multi centre with exploring the first part and a few days relaxing at the end. Some, especially winter sun, are mainly relaxing with a few trips out.

Currently away now.

We've been to the local town a couple of times fir a stroll, watch the sunset, meals out.
We've been to an elephant sanctuary, for a trip on a bamboo raft, a 'jungle' meal, a temple or two, turtle sanctuary, local market, tsunami memorial, etc.
Rest of time has been in the pool, sea, walks on the beach, chance to read, lovely meals locally, drinks at the bar, etc.

It's been a much more relaxing holiday than what we do in the summer but it was very much needed too.

Ragwort · 10/04/2023 04:14

I love holidays like that, although my DH is much more active and would be off hiking, cycling or exploring....leaving me by the pool with a good back. Never go 'out' in the evenings beyond having dinner. Although I am probably even more 'boring' than you as haven't even got the energy to plan an overseas holiday ... can't bear the thought of the travel arrangements... a few days in this country is more than enough for me. I was more exciting when I was younger ... we did the equivalent of a year backpacking in our 30s ... just took off for a year .. great memories.

elodiesmith · 10/04/2023 04:37

We've just come back from a sunny holiday and did all you've mentioned but bed by 9pm.
Up at 5-6am.

What's the issue? I don't get bored as I've a baby but I'd love to be able to just sit and read a book without anyone bothering me for hours Grin

SquigglyGum · 10/04/2023 05:13

Sounds like my kind of holiday! Bit of structure but lots of down time. 👌👌👌

Wavinggoodbyetoo · 10/04/2023 06:01

Not for me I'm afraid, I’d go mad. I like to be up and out doing and seeing. Our last holiday my DH did moan a bit that he was knackered when we got back, but also that it was an amazing trip.

I’ll laze about in my coffin, not before.

ginsparkles · 10/04/2023 06:30

We are combination lazy! We could spend the whole day lying around by a pool. So tend to book holidays in areas where there are things to do. On a 7 day break we'll have two full on days put up early back late kind of things. Then the other days will be more lazy get up, mooch about in the local area, find somewhere for lunch, back to hotel to chill and read, then eat tea, more reading bed by 9.30.

marcopront · 10/04/2023 06:35

That's our holiday at the moment.

I wake my DD at 9:00 so we can go for breakfast, we have a post breakfast rest (she's a teenager so sometimes naps), go for a swim, have lunch, sit by the pool and set some more.

We went snorkelling one day but otherwise haven't left the hotel

We're happy

Usernamen · 10/04/2023 06:37

Completely depends on the holiday.

When we were in Antigua earlier this year, it was a pretty lazy holiday but a much needed one as we’d both had a pretty stressful few weeks at work.

Currently in Seville and averaging 20,000 steps a day.

everyonebutme · 10/04/2023 06:44

Been to Mexico a couple of times and similar age to you. There's nothing wrong with that sort of holiday and we're very similar.

24252627a · 10/04/2023 06:49

It’s probably partly due to the time zone difference that makes you want to sleep early.
i am the same when I go west 😃
