First experience of flying Business Class and …

I just returned from a trip involving flights to LA and I flew there and back business class. It was my first time and it was amazing. My DH has flown Business Class many times with work and said one day we’d try it.
I have a flight next month to Singapore in economy and in a way wished I hadn’t tried it.

Get an British airways Amex and start collections points to use on business flights

DuvetDownn · 28/02/2023 19:44

We used Amex reward flights and bought Avios points for the LA flight.

If you are considering this go on headforpoints and Get a referral
I have no connection with headforpoints
Friends can refer you as well- you usually get additional avois through a referral.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/02/2023 20:22

I honestly think reward points for flights should be banned - why is it the government bans things like plastic bags and straws, but still allows incentives for flying?

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2023 21:12

Because we pay the tax.

Makes sense, the government are hypocrites.

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2023 23:22

@PlaitBilledDuckyPuss
You could argue the government need more revenue to develop green travel. If everyone stops travelling, revenues fall. We are already under investing. Maybe taxes do have some benefit to assist our quest for greener travel in the future?

We need to travel less. It's too late for travelling 'greener' to have any impact, too much damage has been done. All the money in the world can't save the planet.

I suggest you don’t post on the holiday and travel threads then. We are still travelling whilst we can. Not ready to be a hermit. Hopefully you don’t buy imported food if you are so pious!

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2023 23:32

Or anything else that’s imported for that matter.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/02/2023 23:39

We've just discovered a disadvantage of business class.
We're at the end of a holiday in Florida, first proper holiday in 3 years cos of covid.
I suggested we push the boat out and fly home business class for the flat bed seat for an overnight flight.
Our flight this evening was cancelled and British Airways insist on flying us back via Philadelphia as there are no BC seats on direct flights tomorrow and the system point blank will not allow us to fly a "lesser" class even if we agree its OK.
It's my first ever experience of flying Business Class and so far it's rubbish as I'm stuck in a bloody Orlando airport hotel...

There's quite a gap between being a 'hermit' and taking flights on a monthly basis; but it's really the existence of incentives that annoys me, not that people take advantage of them - it is, after all, human nature to get stuff on the cheap where possible and if people don't care about the planet, so be it, but let's not reward them by making it even easier for them not to care.

No, I don't buy imported food.

AdoraBell · 28/02/2023 23:45

Glad you enjoyed it 😁

How do you not buy imported food?
pasta, rice, olive oil, tomatoes, apples, oranges, bananas, nuts etc

What do you eat?

Posted from an imported phone, via telecom gear made in China powered by imported LNG. 😆

None of those high carb things, for a start!

Not posted from any kind of phone.

I’d miss lemons if I didn’t eat anything imported (misses point of thread).

TizerorFizz · 01/03/2023 07:44

And who said people going on holiday fly monthly? Some people might not eat a thing much from abroad but in that case, hermit is a fairly good description!

Never had a flight cancelled whilst in airport. Guess we’ve just been lucky. BA sometimes amalgamate flights but well in advance.

Aixellency · 01/03/2023 07:49

I suspect most of us would miss tea and coffee if we consumed nothing not produced in Britain … And I like doing that small thing to support coffee growers working in challenging circumstances.

I have a regular Riverford veg box - and even they import a large proportion of the food they deliver. (They make excellent arguments in favour of this - which I don’t remember in detail.)

loopyloutoo · 01/03/2023 07:49

@PlaitBilledDuckyPuss gosh you sound fun 🙄

Business class is amazing - especially the Middle Eastern airlines! Maybe see how much it would be to upgrade on check in for SIN.
I used BA business nearly a year ago now for the Caribbean and I have to say I wasn't as impressed - still a lovely treat though.
Agreed with PP, we need to find a greener more sustainable way of travelling by air and airlines and aircraft manufacturers are working on it - if you think air travel stopping is the solution, that's pretty dystopian and as PP say, I hope you apply this logic to every other area of your life too.

Unfortunately upgrading out Singapore flight is too expensive, I think it would cost over 6k to do so. We’ve sort of compromised and booked extra leg room seats at (opposite ends of the plane from each other) so at least that something. It’s going to be a long journey as then have a 6 hour layover in Singapore before flying to Cambodia. I’m currently looking at Singapore transit tours and have a booked a lounge as a back up.

bert3400 · 01/03/2023 08:27

I agree OP, once you've flown BC it's really hard to go back to Enc . We are off to the Middle East in April and the BC flights cam in at a crazy price especially as it's only 7 hours, so we are Enc there BC back (as night Flight). It will make the 'end of the holiday' blues more bearable .

DuvetDownn · 01/03/2023 08:30

I am now going to plan my long haul trips around places where the upgrade isn’t as large as other places.
