Cyprus October Resort Advice

Underparmummy · 19/01/2023 13:48

We would like to do a week in Cyprus in October with 3dc 8-13. I am trying to find a resort and hotel that might suit us. I have ruled Paphos out at this point but love the look of the beaches further up along that western side.
I also like the look of the southern beaches around Limassol.

I am looking for a hotel that isn't a huge high rise one - is that possible?!

I would like:

beachfront
indoor and outdoor pool
nature 'stuff' as dc all love this - although this could be trips of course
great breakfast
Option for eating at lunch/night
Small town in walking distance for other eating options

Anyone know Cyprus and have any advice?

there are two airports in cyprus. can you use either? Why have you ruled paphos out? I ask as im interested in visiting one year. I have heard mixed reviews about the beaches near paphos - coral bay - some people say its a bit like blackpool in the sun.

we love cyprus - been twice in october, but always to a villa. so sorry not much help.

Hotel Sunrise Beach and Hotel Capo Bay are within walking distance of the centre of Protaras. Protaras is very close to Cape Greco National Park, Cyclops Cave, Blue Lagoon and the Secret Sea Caves. Both hotels have rooms which sleep 5.

Thank you for all info, off to google.

I had ruled out Paphos due to size/reputation of town, hard to tell from the internet but seems very built up and touristy?? Also beaches in town not lovely sandy ones!

I am finding the value of Cyprus (and also looked at Turkey) really hard to justify, everything that looks lovely is over £10k. I have started looking at long haul now - the value looks better so we are looking at budget now...

OP posts:
Funf · 02/02/2023 20:11

Wow thats expensive

WhatsitWiggle · 02/02/2023 20:38

I don't know what you were looking at, but £10k for 5 people bed and breakfast at October half term is not typical for Cyprus! It is certainly more expensive than Spain and Portugal though.

If you were looking outside of the main resorts though, it was probably luxury hotels like Anassa or Columbia Beach. Both fabulous hotels, beautiful locations, away from very touristy areas, but certainly not something you would describe as budget friendly.

Underparmummy · 03/02/2023 08:41

I was doing AI and choosing flights that aren't such horrendous times you come back wishing you hadn't bothered to be clear. Most places we have to have 2 rooms due to having had a pesky third child.
Even in more normal places (Coral Bay Hotel) that is hitting over £7k. As I say, places that look really nice are totally busting the budget.

Paphos is lovely. Pools and the sea will be cool in October in Cyprus.
My GP lived in Cyprus when I was young it's a brilliant place you can't really go wrong

KrasiTime · 03/02/2023 08:49

October is my favourite time of year in Cyprus. You’ll need jacket, cardigan in the evening as it gets quite cool when the sun goes down if it’s after mid October. Larnaca is cheaper I think. I prefer Protaras area to Paphos & Limassol as the beaches are lovely.

Underparmummy · 04/02/2023 13:00

I have just checked on BA and even just with breakfast all the options are 6.8k plus, it does seem to be a standard amount for a family of 5 in Cyprus in October half term!

OP posts:
WhatsitWiggle · 04/02/2023 16:04

The BA sale ended on Tuesday so unfortunately prices will have gone up until their next sale.

It's the 13yo pushing prices up, as your family is essentially now 3 adults and 2 children which is more limiting.

What about a villa at Aphrodite Hills? If you select a junior villa, they are near the "village centre" which has a couple of restaurant options.

But yes, £6-7k for a nice 4 / not super luxury 5 is not unusual for Cyprus over half terms for that many people. The flights alone with nice timings, luggage included, will be around £3k - £4k. It's never been a particularly cheap destination, but it's my favourite European beach place to go.

Spain is definitely cheaper, flights as well as hotels. Turkey usually is but is getting filled up with Russians who can't travel anywhere else in Europe, which is pushing hotel prices up.

Use the BA Holiday finder - it only works for 2 adults, but if you take your budget and divide by 5 then you'll get starters for 10 in terms of locations / hotels.

That bit wasn't meant to be bold, sorry, must have put my * in the wrong place!

BananaCocktails · 04/02/2023 16:13

I am Cypriot best beaches are In Ayia Napa area and protaras
Paphos isn’t touristy at all however the sea is rough there
most Cypriots holiday western end of the island
paphos is not built up however Limassol is being the islands capital and main port town
the sand in Limassol is a dark brown colour - still nice beaches but they can’t compete with the beautiful white sand and carribean style beaches of Ayia Napa and protaras
I prefer Ayia Napa over protaras It’s quiet at night ( unless you visit the square) and there are several amazing beaches with not too many people on
in October Cyprus is pretty quiet anyway as the tourist summer season is over
protaras Is only a 15 or 20 min drive from Ayia Napa anyway
please do visit the cape Greco national park it’s stunning
Ayia thekla, makronissos ( also archeological tombs a short walk away ) and landa beach are beautiful, as is Nissi bay , and you can walk along the coast
nearer to protaras fig tree bay is lovely
there is also a bus between Ayia Napa and protaras for about £1.60

chipsandpeas · 04/02/2023 18:45

look at tui or jet2 prob get a lot cheaper than BA

FenghuangHoyan · 04/02/2023 18:56

I lived in Cyprus for a few years. Paphos has a lot of Fish and Chip shops and was not great. We rarely went there. Limassol is not a pretty place at all. There's some nice restaurants around it and the sovereign base area is nice as it's the area between Paphos and Limassol.

Ayia Napa is your pub, night club and vomit area, though it has nice - and packed in the summer - beaches.

Nicosia, the capital (no idea why the Cypriot above things it's Limassol, because it's not) it's a bit built up obviously.

There's a few nice villages dotted about and with a hire car (cheap) you can get around the whole island pretty easily. The North half (Turkish side) of the island is also nice and probably cheaper to stay and had some good beaches etc. I honestly found the South was getting a bit greedy when I left.

whatadoodledo · 04/02/2023 18:59

Yes I can't help but jump in. Nicosia is the capital!

How on Earth can you be Cypriot & think the capital is Limassol????

Underparmummy · 05/02/2023 14:50

Thanks everyone, set a proper budget (max 5.5k), set up a spreadsheet, ranked lots of hotels and packages and ended up... booking a holiday to Turkey! Frustrated by not making Greek holidays happen for us over a few years now!

beachcitygirl · 05/02/2023 22:55

Hotel Capo Bay protaras is fabulous

Underparmummy · 06/02/2023 13:48

It does look good but for half term for a family of 5 b&b only via TUI with a dodgy flight back is £8.6K!

OP posts:
Funf · 07/02/2023 19:24

Thats a lot of money!

underneaththeash · 09/02/2023 20:09

We stayed in Azia resort a couple of years ago in October and it was nice, on bus route into Paphos and the ruins, food good and rooms nice and it wasn't astronomical.

The mani reason we wouldn't go back is that the outdoor pools aren't heated and that's a lot of the fun. Same with the water park.
