Cyprus October Resort Advice

Underparmummy · 19/01/2023 13:48

We would like to do a week in Cyprus in October with 3dc 8-13. I am trying to find a resort and hotel that might suit us. I have ruled Paphos out at this point but love the look of the beaches further up along that western side.
I also like the look of the southern beaches around Limassol.

I am looking for a hotel that isn't a huge high rise one - is that possible?!

I would like:

beachfront
indoor and outdoor pool
nature 'stuff' as dc all love this - although this could be trips of course
great breakfast
Option for eating at lunch/night
Small town in walking distance for other eating options

Anyone know Cyprus and have any advice?

Have you looked at the north of Cyprus? I have been there several times (friend has a villa there), much more reasonable and yes, it is safe to travel there. Kyrenia area is great for a first visit.

It’s not a recognised state. For people like myself who have family missing during the war & land forcibly taken your comments are frankly abhorrent.

Nice. To someone who has lost relatives. We lost my gran’s home. My aunt’s home. Luckily they were in the U.K. at the time. My sil had to flee with her family. Just because it happened years ago doesn’t mean it doesn’t still hurt. And until there is a settlement Northern Cyprus is not a recognised state.

If I needed to be in northern Cyprus for 2 months, are there more apartment type hotels? Feel like would be safer in a hotel generally but would be astronomical?

@KrasiTime it was a typing error
Limassol used to be the capital in old times
I am aware Nicosia is the capital 🙄

BananaCocktails · 18/02/2023 02:07

@Finallydo what a horrible person you are suggesting people go and visit north Cyprus
all those hotels there belong to Greek Cypriots , it’s all stolen land and buildings
northern Cyprus is not a recognised state anywhere in the world and is under occupation by the Turkish Army
it’s not a holiday destination and if something happens to you you are unlikely to get much help
there are two Cypriots on this post , nobody needs your terrible advice

Kyrenia is lovely.

Kyrenia is lovely.

And kyrenia is also illegally occupied. Please do not visit the areas occupied by Turkish forces

I am prob not the best person to answer this as I have no kids and don't really stay in resorts but last year I cycled across Cyprus and finished in Paphos. I was kind of dreading that bit but I actually thought it was a really nice town. The beaches were nice and it didn't feel too built up.

That said I made the mistake of getting an air bnb above a nightclub (!) but I am sure there are quieter places to stay.

liveforsummer · 18/02/2023 05:37

The best beaches are on the east - Ayia Napa/Protaras. It's also the best place for dc imo. Ayia Napa has a large water park and amusement park although both places have smaller ones attached to various hotels too. Nissi Beach is beautiful

liveforsummer · 18/02/2023 05:53

To add Limassol is a built up city - it's not a child friendly holiday resort really. The north is a ridiculous suggestion of it a weeks holiday with DC. You have to fly via Istanbul as no one else is actually allowed to fly directly there so any moral thoughts aside it's a very long flight. Flying in to the south then crossing is risky and complex. The person saying Ayia Napa is vomit and clubbing possibly hasn't been there in October, although even in July that is very much contained to the main square. It is a family resort destination for many other nationalities and the Nissi Avenue area and Harbour are great for dc even in peak party time of year. In October much of the main square party area is closed as it does a death around the first week of September. As to paphos not being touristy?! Odd description- it's a very popular tourist destination and also very popular with British ex pats so has a much more Brit's abroad feel imo. You don't need to stay on one of the swanky hotels to have a nice time. Have you looked at some of the holiday villages? They all offer AI and many have their own water parks - Panthea village in Ayia Napa is a fave of ours. The rooms are basic but clean and the location is fantastic

😁

Can I just add the Sunrise Pearl is lovely in Protaras although not stayed for a few years as I usually stay in my parent’s house. Not sure what Protaras will be like in October though.

BananaCocktails · 21/02/2023 22:50

@KrasiTime protaras is still lovely in October, most of my family go for holidays in October now because it’s slightly cooler, cheaper to fly it’s still very warm and absolutely beautiful.
I am very annoyed at the idiots on here suggesting people go to holiday in the north of Cyprus- an occupied area , occupied by illegal settlers and occupied by Turkish troops most of the time, why on earth, would anyone want to holiday in a hotel or stay on land that’s been ripped away from its original owners who may have even been killed by the occupyers and stolen it’s beyond me

typical of some brits not to give a sh*t

BananaCocktails · 21/02/2023 22:51

@ilovesooty please shut up

I haven't even posted for several days. Hardly necessary to tell me to shut up after a three word observation made several days ago.

BlueSeaWave · 27/04/2023 23:14

I wasn’t going for a holiday.

Oakbeam · 27/04/2023 23:25

Frustrated by not making Greek holidays happen for us over a few years now!

If that’s where you want to go, have you tried booking a holiday in Greece?
