Business Class 10hr Flight

tonystarksrighthand · 09/10/2022 09:36

I know this can't really be answered. But is it worth it? Business Class flight for 10hrs. I suppose I'm asking for others experiences.

Thank you

@prinnycessa
Air Canada has a wierd pricing system. Their signature class is a hybrid and is expensive. Other then that, KLM flight coming up. We often go on companion vouchers so it’s BA! However lie flat bed is THE thing for me.

I have not paid £4000 for a flight when I do pay. Not even return to Argentina! I might for Australia! But I’m not going. If you can be flexible with dates you can get better deals. It’s significantly more relaxing and I do think it’s worth it.

prinnycessa · 11/10/2022 18:15

@TizerorFizz thanks. We have the BA Amex too and have 2 companion vouchers to use with another coming soon! We've used one already for a short haul coming up and it's also CW but looking forward to Mexico.

Hopefully we can do all long haul business moving forward as we accumulate enough points. Looking forward to it!

TizerorFizz · 11/10/2022 20:11

I do! We find planning ahead helps and being flexible. Not going high season and ringing BA if departure and return are not quite right for us. Their companion flight offerings change! It’s been pretty good so far.

Livinginanotherworld · 11/10/2022 20:17

If you can stretch to it then definitely for a ten hour flight. Premium Economy is good if business is out of budget, quieter cabin, slightly better seats etc.

RockrrMom · 12/10/2022 14:11

I will never take a 10-hour economy flight again if I can help it. (I kind of lost my will to live during an economy-class flight from Los Angeles to Paris with 4 kids and me 7 months pregnant when we emigrated here. Never ever ever again, haha.) Basically, I have a "miles" credit card that I try to use for almost everything. The only reason I have this card is so that I can pay for upgrades!

prinnycessa · 03/01/2023 21:32

Back again @TizerorFizz @FlounderingFruitcake. Pic attached of the configuration, is this new or old? Thanks!

Business Class 10hr Flight
FlounderingFruitcake · 03/01/2023 21:42

That’s old. The new are all forward facing suites. With that configuration pictured passengers in A and K seats have to climb over the feet of B and J passengers to escape to the aisle so less ideal than the newer direct aisle access seats. That said they’re still flatbeds, still comfy, service/food/drink etc is identical . Depends how fussy you are really!

maddy68 · 03/01/2023 21:42

Yes!!! It means you can sleep and have decent food

prinnycessa · 03/01/2023 21:54

How frustrating! We've booked for November so hoping they change by then. If not, I'm travelling with DH anyway so will be fine. Would you recommend paying to book in advance or just waiting until check in? @FlounderingFruitcake

Rawroink · 03/01/2023 22:04

Flew business class to Barbados and had a dream start to a once on a lifetime holiday..economy on way back and was fu*ked for days

Re paying for seats I can’t really comment on what you get if you don’t as depending on where I’ve been in my personal/professional life I’ve either had silver membership or a lap infant, both of which get you selection for free 🤣

My last flight though, horrific experience everything that could go wrong went wrong, ended up getting home on a connecting AA flight in economy. I could go on and on but BA’s customer service is so none existent and the experience was so bad I’ll leave it at suite, herringbone, I don’t care and hell will freeze over before I ever get on a BA plane again.

PolkaDotMankini · 03/01/2023 22:26

I've just booked premium seats on a 10--hour TUI flight (effectively business class on other airlines). We've done similar length TUI flights in premium and economy extra legroom and the extra comfort in premium is noticeable. That said, it's the only airline where I pay for an upgrade as it's £2k for four of us, rather than £2k per person!

lljkk · 03/01/2023 22:44

I just paid £2200 for 11 hours in economy. if only boohoo I could have got business class for £2200 <wistful>

Weird that people talk about the lounge access. I can't fathom the appeal.
Wish I could do the whole flight flat in 'economy'.

FlounderingFruitcake · 03/01/2023 22:44

Wow is TUI premium really the same as biz class on other airlines including a flat bed seat? That sounds like an absolute bargain @PolkaDotMankini ! I’ve never considered them before but definitely will for future travels (especially because I now hate BA).

PolkaDotMankini · 03/01/2023 23:00

No to the flat-bed seat. I've just googled BA and Virgin's cabin classes: TUI's premium cabin looks like their premium economy cabins. I was working on the old-school economy, business and first class model, sorry!

Ah that makes sense given price! Still lovely compared to economy though and your legs will thank you.

Movinghouseatlast · 03/01/2023 23:08

If you can afford it yes it really is worth it.

I have flown business class for work many times and it has totally ruined me for economy. I flew economy for 10.hours recently and it really was hideous compared to business class pure joy. But I can't personally justify business travel. Sob. ( seriously)

oh they are nice, i done premium on a TUI flight earlier this year and flying a few months later in economy was a slight struggle - id say it was more like a hybrid between premium economy and business, as no flat bed but you got proper glasses/plates/cutlery etc

NewYearSameCrap · 03/01/2023 23:30

It is a much nicer experience but it is only 10 hours of your life. So for me it depends on whether you could do other things with that money (eg you would have another holiday, do that renovation etc) or your finances are such that you don’t really need it/ wouldn’t really spend it. IME the “I don’t fly economy over x hours” brigade fall in the latter camp and for them spending the extra doesn’t mean going without something else.
On our finances, I wouldn’t ever pay the cost of a whole (short haul) holiday to fly long haul business because I would rather have the extra holiday. But I would go business if I can make it work on air miles and vouchers. We do usually pay for lounges and IME the decent paid ones aren’t much different to the BA ones.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 03/01/2023 23:48

I've flown business lots of times and was twice upgraded to first. Very nice.
But be warned! You'll get crying babies in business too. Been there.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 03/01/2023 23:50

Last two times flying business to Faro and the lounge was closed.
Pissed off.

Dibbydoos · 27/04/2023 20:28

I've just bought PE seats for trip to Thailand. We stop off in Vienna on the way. They were £1100 each return, so pretty good price methinks!

I've been offered upgrades for €800 each each way. You get lie flat seats - i can hinestly say thry are not comfy having travelled BC mamy times for work, but BC is nice.

however, I don't think it's worth upgrading as we can sleep fine in PE.

Kualma · 27/04/2023 20:45

It depends which airline. I would avoid Lufthansa as their seats are narrow and it hurt my back. Every other airline, yes.

i’m going to Brazil on Sunday in business class with BA and it’s an 11 hour flight. Quite looking forward to it!

HermioneWeasley · 27/04/2023 21:49

The only problem is it ruins you for going economy ever again

Dartmoorcheffy · 27/04/2023 21:52

Definitely a much better experience if you can afford it. Flew Heathrow to San Francisco in business many years ago and it was fantastic. But cost 10k.
