Business Class 10hr Flight

tonystarksrighthand · 09/10/2022 09:36

I know this can't really be answered. But is it worth it? Business Class flight for 10hrs. I suppose I'm asking for others experiences.

Thank you

Concorde lounge is fab !

whiteroseredrose · 09/10/2022 13:47

I would for a long journey.

I flew business from Seattle years ago and slept nearly the whole way. It was brilliant - no jet lag so I could work when I got home.

ChipsAreLife · 09/10/2022 13:51

We looked at it for when we go to Aus at Christmas. Was £22k more than economy 😬

I think if you can afford it and you find the economy experience tough then go for it! I actually don't mind economy, and would rather spend my money elsewhere but totally get why you would do it.

Enjoy!!!

ShellGrotto · 09/10/2022 13:52

What's the context, OP? Would you be paying for it yourself? Is it for work or leisure? Are you going to have to do something that involves being mentally present at the other end?

I've never paid for it myself, but yes, it does make a long flight considerably easier, sleep more possible, and things generally more pleasant.

rooinspace · 09/10/2022 13:59

It depends where you’re going, with which airline and even which aircraft how much value you get out of it. What route and airline are you looking at?

HermioneWeasley · 09/10/2022 14:43

It depends on what you have to give up to upgrade. It’s definitely materially more comfortable, particularly at night

FrangipaniBlue · 09/10/2022 15:08

Definitely!!

Overnight flights it's a game changer being able to get a decent sleep in a lay flat bed.

Daytime it's just so much more comfortable!

It's not just the in flight experience though.

Think how much you spend in airport lounges on food and drink - you get all that included in the business class lounge.

Priority boarding so no standing in a big queue.

You get off first as do your bags so you're first at customs and can literally save hours of your time standing around.

Onthegrid · 09/10/2022 15:22

i have flown all over the world for pleasure and up until recently always in economy. A 10 hours flight is tolerable but not enjoyable, daytime is better than night.
Started to mix in so business flights and premium economy and it all became more enjoyable. Now I won’t fly less than premium under 8 hours and business over. I don’t use BA so my flights are more reasonably priced. For the US my target is to get under £2500 and I will have done 3 trips in 20 months with only 1 leg in premium. For The Far East and Australia I’ll go to £4500 if it’s a decent carrier but for the more budget ones it’s £3500.
I rarely fly short haul to Europe, but don’t bother with business, just try for extra leg room.

I have a bad back and being able to lie in different positions makes a whole world of difference to me. Although it must be noted that if you are flying to the US and have a connecting flight the internal flights will not have flat bed seats just comfy chairs with loads of leg room.

BookedOut · 09/10/2022 15:27

The lie flatbed is a game changer for night flights. For me, it’s the difference between a couple of hours of fitful doze and a proper night’s sleep.

I usually fly Economy, but if the points and vouchers align I use Business. It makes the whole experience better, especially waiting in the arrivals airport for security feeling well slept rather than shattered.

Just to add its not always as expensive as people thing. I flew BA First class London to Singapore for under £2k back in April. I drank about £400 worth of Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle Champagne in the concorde lounge alone :-)

And I flew to SFO for the same price but I imagine like me you booked during Cv19.

Both are £10k now

How did you drink 4 bottles (it is £100 a bottle)?

ChipsforMe · 09/10/2022 15:57

sweatyannie · 09/10/2022 13:39

Concorde lounge is fab !

It used to be
It is very mediocre post Cv19 , especially the food
The Spa is gone
The business lounge is gone

YumYummy · 09/10/2022 15:59

I am excited for my first time turning left in February.

FlounderingFruitcake · 09/10/2022 16:03

Do it! Biz gives you the flatbed, privacy, shorter hop through security lines and decent booze. What I’d personally say isn’t worth is First, unless you get very very good deal, because you don’t get THAT much more for it versus business.

DarkMatternix · 09/10/2022 16:13

It really depends on the price. The last flight I did premium economy was 1k return and business was 9k. There's no way i could ever justify 500 quid an hour just to avoid sitting in a seat

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 09/10/2022 16:25

I think with virgin you only get a bed of you're in first class. Work usually books me premium economy which is a nice step up, and ocassionally I get a free upgrade if I'm going there and back in 2 days and the same cabin crew recognise me. ..

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 09/10/2022 16:31

We're flying to the US soon, have booked Virgin upper class mainly because DH is a very bad flyer and this is our first long-haul flight in 13 years (outside Europe). It was just under £12k for four of us and that was split tickets as we're flying in and out of different airports so would probably have been cheaper if it were a straight return.

It is a LOT of money but we can afford it and we don't travel a lot. I'm looking forward to it as part of the holiday, not just a means to get somewhere. So with that mindset, it's doesn't feel like a rip-off.

Bobshhh · 09/10/2022 16:34

The only times I've flown business class I feel like I've made up for the price difference through the amount of champagne I've drunk in the lounge and on the flight!

notimagain · 09/10/2022 16:38

YumYummy · 09/10/2022 15:59

I am excited for my first time turning left in February.

Haven't heard that expression in a while... these days, post the 747 and also with more airports having multiple jetties you might end up going right after all but whichever way you turn enjoy the flight and the comfy seats

WingingIt101 · 09/10/2022 16:42

Yes! I have only ever been business class when travelling for work but my goodness if I could afford it for my personal trips I would!

It is just much more comfortable, I can sleep, have a bit more space and usually get a larger luggage allowance plus use of the lounge prior to travel which is just a nicer place to be waiting / including something to eat or drink!

Every trip we did ourselves once I'd done business once we looked to see the difference in cost and whether it was manageable - sadly it never was!!

sageandbasil · 09/10/2022 16:44

Absolutely worth it!

CuteCillian · 09/10/2022 16:46

If I can't afford Business, I can't afford the flight as far as I'm concerned. It's certainly worth it for me, but I'm one of the annoying MNetters who would hyperventilate if the passenger in front of me were to recline in economy!

gogohmm · 09/10/2022 16:55

Depends on whether you can afford it. I prefer an extra holiday myself

TeeBee · 09/10/2022 17:12

10 hours??! Absolutely worth it. I do it with 4 hours. Of course, finances withstanding.

choolaboola · 09/10/2022 17:26

If you can afford to pay for it, it is one million percent worth it. Especially if you fly middle Eastern airlines eg Emirates Etihad etc.

ncforyetanotherone · 09/10/2022 21:49

I'd advise booking premium and upgrading at the airport for best price.

I also booked BA premium once to Thailand, couldn't reserve a seat unless a middle one, so turned up at LHR three hours early and got given a free upgrade 😱 bloody amazing for a 14 hour flight!
