Suggestions for mother/daughter(10) holiday.

This half term I want to go away with my daughter who has a different holiday to her older brothers. We would go for less than a week so not too far and would ideally like some culture/shopping/spa and maybe a nearby water park. Does anyone have any suggestions for places we could go. Not Rome or Paris. Doesn't necessarily need to be abroad.

How about a cruise? - if you went with Royal Caribbean or Norwegian they have everything your DD and you could wish for. They have their own water parks/slides, Malls, Royal Carribbean have ice rinks, more or less anytype of food anytime of day. and a different port most days for you to either get off and wander, many have the sightseeing open top hop on hop off buses or you could go on an organised by the ship trip.

You also usually get excellent service and most members of staff are only to pleased to help, which also adds to it.

Probably too far a flight for you but I spent five nights in Singapore with DD when she was around that age. Singapore is fantastic as it is clean and very safe and easy to navigate. People turn up their noses at fact that it is “Asia lite” but it’s a great place with kids. We stayed at a nice hotel with a couple of outdoor pools on the rooftop in the city but Sentosa has theme parks and more resort type hotels if you prefer. We did a river cruise and learnt a bit about the history of Singapore, visited Chinatown and Little India for yummy food, went to the Gardens by the Bay and the hawker centre nearby, did the Singapore eye at dusk… We have been there quite a few times but Dd says that was her favourite trip.

How about south coast?

Poole has splashdown water park, Bath is fairly close by, Salisbury. You could even do London.

If you aren't looking for one base you could travel around?

DD 10 likes Malaga - culture, shopping, beach, marina and great food.

Palma is another great city with a water park trip doable.

London never fails for that age group. Theatre, Harry Potter tour etc
Cool restaurants and cafes.

Yes we've done Malaga (we go coastal to torreblanca and catch train which is brilliant)

We have done the zoos, water parks, trivoli park, the shopping centre, boat trips.

Good shout!

This looks really cool - how many days do you think it would be good to go for - we could manage up to 5 but maybe that's too long? I would like to go to the zoo as well one day which is a drive away so looks like a whole day trip.

Do what @2anddone did (see the thread ^^) - stay at the Lalandia complex where there are indoor pools etc. and then spend one day at Legoland and one in the Lego House.
Be sure to check that these are actually open on the dates that you want to visit. Legoland is fun in October as they do a Halloween theme, but you are a bit at the mercy of the weather. But as the Danes say - there is no bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Givskud Zoo is the type of zoo that you drive through, so you'd need a car. I'm also not sure that October is the best time to visit. Instead try a day out in Vejle, which is easily reached by bus from Billund. Go to the Økolariet ecology exhibition (just across from the bus/railway station) and maybe spend time shopping in Vejle (there is little in the way of shops in Billund). Or combine the day with a trip to Koldinghus Castle (bus or train from Vejle) and some retail therapy at the Kolding Storcentre Mall (5 mins in a taxi from Koldinghus Castle).

A 3-4 day trip "somewhere different" is surely going to be a hit with a 10 year old.
