please and thank you.

Must be by a stunning sandy beach, ideally have an old town to explore, great places to eat as we don't like all inclusive and easily accessible from minor UK airports.

Is there anywhere that you want to avoid, say if you've been before?

SingingWaffleDoggy · 27/08/2022 16:00

Alcudia is lovely. The port is more upmarket than the strip area. It’s also easy to walk to the old town from that end.

countdowntonap · 27/08/2022 16:03

Ibiza Old Town followed by Formentera? European beaches at their finest!

abovedecknotbelow · 27/08/2022 16:05

Ibiza old town and formentera as per op or I'll de re in France.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 27/08/2022 16:06

Dont know about accessability from UK airports but Sozopol in Bulgaria would fit the bill.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/08/2022 16:31

Thanks, we have just come back from Alcudia and are booked to go to Ibiza in half term so you are all thinking along the right lines but we have done the Balearics to death. Kids prefer Spain and Portugal, I'm easier. France and Italy aren't really accessible from where I live unfortunately. I don't know much about Bulgaria so will check that one out.

Thasos, Greece. Flights from uk to Kabbala then a short ferry ride. Fabulous island.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 27/08/2022 16:38

Lindos, Rhodes

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/08/2022 17:10

Ooh I’ve just been looking at Rhodes, great minds. No way to get to Thasos from here but thanks for the idea.

Antibes/Juan Les Pins

LittleLlama · 27/08/2022 21:39

Paphos, Cyprus

countdowntonap · 27/08/2022 21:44

If you’ve done Formentera, and so are good with a ferry holiday, I recommend Syros or Tinos which can be reached from Mykonos in less than an hour.

WhizzFizz · 27/08/2022 21:46

Alvor Portugal. Lovely old town and harbour, lots of restaurants and the best beach on mainland Europe.

Gonewiththewindbeforelong · 27/08/2022 21:47

Dubrovnik, Croatia. Villa Orabelle. Thank me later.

Elodie09 · 27/08/2022 21:49

Alghero, Sardinia or Biarritz.

Gherkingreen · 27/08/2022 21:50

Lagos in Portugal (old town, marina, beaches, stunning coastline), or (no beach but Lake Bled is beautiful & alpine summer sports a lot of fun) Ljubljana in Slovenia - beautiful city, friendly, stunning castle and furnicular.

shinynewapple22 · 27/08/2022 21:51

I liked Alvor too.

Recently we enjoyed Estepona (fly to Malaga).

neerg · 27/08/2022 21:55

Just returned from Corfu and Agios Georgios is amazing and has sand/grit beach.
Loads to explore nearby as well.

Dubrovnik, Croatia. Villa Orabelle. Thank me later.

That looks amazing but seriously expensive!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 28/08/2022 05:17

Thanks. No where in France or Italy is accessible to us and only a few Greek islands are. We can't do ferries as DD refuses to go on boats.

The villa in Dubrovnik looks amazing but the beach there would not meet my criteria and I'm not really looking at accommodation just yet, just looking at resorts, I wouldn't choose a villa typically. Nor would Ag Georgios, it's too shingle a beach , I want fine sand. Slovenia isn't accessible but out as no beach anyway.

Alvor and Lagos are already on my short list, thanks. Will look into Estapona and Paphos.

Have you been to Javea or Denia in Northern Costa Blanca . Both are an hour from either Alicante or Valencia airports. Beautiful beach, stunning old town, vibrant fishing port.....and an amazing food scene in both towns . My personal favourite is Javea

Pinkmagic1 · 28/08/2022 06:20

Rethymnon in crete. You can fly into either Chania or Heraklian airports. Lovely Venetian old town, with a beautiful harbour and many places to eat for all budgets. There is also a massive beach.

catfunk · 28/08/2022 10:39

Lindos definitely. Close enough for a day trip to Rhodes old town too. The sea is much better around lindos end though.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 28/08/2022 15:07

No I haven't tried Costa Blanca yet, will definitely check it out. I went to Rethymnon many years ago, so many it's probably worth a revisit. Rhodes is. definitely getting some love, I can see why. Thanks for all the contributions.
