Anyone received a passport recently?

We're going on holiday this week and DB and family are meant to be joining next week. But they're waiting for passports for 2 members, applied at the start of July. There were no fast track appointments so just need to take their chance. Has anyone got one within 5 weeks?

We applied for our 2 children's passports at the end of June and they arrived last week (within 4 weeks).

I live in NZ and have just renewed my UK passport. From the day my documents were received by Durham Office to the day I received my new passport here in NZ took 17 days!

I cannot believe how quick that was compared to how long it is taking UK residents to get/renew passports.

BabyWhatsYourName · 28/07/2022 08:58

Are they new passports or renewals? Both mine and DHs renewals came back in a week, which I was really shocked by, since there's been such a big thing made about the back log etc and that they're taking months. But 2 of our kids new ones have had nothing done with them so far despite documents being sent to the same passport office on the same day.

Mischance · 28/07/2022 09:05

Mine came within about 10 days max.

Pfingstrose · 28/07/2022 09:16

Our 4 renewals took less than a week. 5/6 days and every old passport had to be posted to a different office.

It seems like a real lottery at the moment.

Lykia · 28/07/2022 09:29

My dh's renewal came back within 7 days. We were expecting months. This was last week.

poothtaste · 28/07/2022 09:36

Ours took 18 days recently, Durham office.

fudfootedfannybangle · 28/07/2022 09:37

Took me longer to find the old one to send back than it did for them to issue the new one. Once I popped the old one in the post, the new one was with me in under a week. I had texts and emails every step of the way from the PO - have they been receiving those?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 28/07/2022 09:41

Backlog has been cleared apparently so back to usual processing times. Not sure I'd be committing to the cost of a holiday on the basis it will come through on time though. Insurance won't cover it.

willithappen · 28/07/2022 09:44

Just over two weeks for a renewal back in April
Just over four weeks for a first passport for dd applied for 20th June and arrived 21st July

Kabalagala · 28/07/2022 09:45

My son's renewal took 6 days from then receiving documents to us having the new passport in our hands last week. Very fast

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/07/2022 09:47

Yes someone I know just got it back within a couple weeks. It seems to have speeded right up. They should ring to follow up.

Stokey · 28/07/2022 11:20

Wow, lots of positive stories on here which is good. I'll ask them to ring and check. Both are renewals so fingers crossed.

My DS got his back yesterday. He sent it off 7 days ago.

IR230622 · 28/07/2022 11:22

I sent mine for renewal on Saturday. I've just had an email to say that the application has been accepted and they are going to send the new one to me. Not sure how long it'll take to come back though. Hopefully not long as my honeymoon is in September

Iwantacampervan · 28/07/2022 13:58

My passport and my youngest's came back in a week - we applied online, both renewals, adult s & didn''t pay for fast track, special delivery etc. One went to Liverpool office & the other Peterborough - this was last week.

StampOnTheGround · 28/07/2022 14:03

Less than 2 weeks!

Jumbojem · 28/07/2022 14:08

Did they apply online? If so have they been getting the updates, they should get these at every step? We did ours back at end of May, one adult and one child renewal. It was at the time of the media storm about delays and it took around 14 days, with the jubilee long bank holiday in that time period.

Snowraingain · 28/07/2022 14:12

I applied for two renewals at the start of July and they came by July 20th. My neighbour applied for two renewals in March and she only got them last week after many calls and stress.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/07/2022 14:14

I renewed our DSs' expired passports and they were back within a fortnight (including one changing to a very scary adult passport 😱)

Glitterkitten24 · 28/07/2022 14:16

I received mine (renewal) today, less than a week after applying. I was amazed as I’ve heard horror stories about waiting time.

Anotherdayanotherdisappointment · 28/07/2022 14:26

2 renewals took just over 2 weeks.
New passport took 9 weeks.

TokenGinger · 28/07/2022 14:26

I applied for DP's on 5th July and new passport arrived 14th July. That was via the Glasgow office where we were asked to post it.

Sammilouwho · 28/07/2022 14:27

Yep, took exact 4 weeks. It was a child's first passport!
On the other hand, my mum sent for her renewal back at the end of April and it still hasn't got here yet!

countrygirl99 · 28/07/2022 14:31

It seems a real lottery. I know a couple of people who applied in April@, haven't received nothing and are getting nowhere/contradictory information from the helpline and are now panicking about their summer holiday. Whereas my mum's came back in 2 weeks.
