Can we get through stansted in an hour?

Going to Dublin Friday eve to visit family but can't leave home until 4pm. Flight is 6.30. Should be in Stansted car park by 5. We aren't taking bags on hold and we've booked fast track security: I'm going to struggle to leave work earlier 🙈

I wouldn’t risk it. I’d be starting work early so I could leave early. Or asking for a half day of annual leave.

Nsky62 · 26/07/2022 22:41

Too little time

ZenNudist · 26/07/2022 22:42

No. Madness

pennysays · 26/07/2022 22:43

I’ve done it before - though not recently. I made a big fuss and asked people if I could cut in front of them and the staff also helped get me through quicker. We made it.

Pay for the parking that is super close to the terminal. Good luck!

Pantsomime · 26/07/2022 22:44

id say no, didn’t manage it in that time even before covid

Turmerictolly · 26/07/2022 22:48

No, you won't make it but up to you if you want to take the risk. No later flights?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 26/07/2022 22:48

I was in stansted recently and got through security in less than 10 minutes. Bus to the gate took another 5 minutes.

It was a monday morning though.

Glitterbaby17 · 26/07/2022 22:49

We flew from there on Friday and it was a zoo - even with fast track - definitely not sorry

Noodledoodledoo · 26/07/2022 22:51

I live near by and the reports most weekends are not great - way to unpredictable especially in summer season. We went on a Friday a few years back at 4pm and it was bedlam.

Noodledoodledoo · 26/07/2022 22:52

Fast track is selling out so its not so fast either.

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/07/2022 23:04

I would risk it if you've got no other choice.

I take domestic flights often and pre-pandemic wouldn't have dreamt of turning up longer than an hour in advance with hand luggage only. I've also been through both Heathrow and Gatwick twice each in the last 6 weeks and had no trouble at all either time.

Totally depends on the time and the number of flights going, you could breeze through, you could have to fight your way to the front. You won't know unless you try.

Livinginanotherworld · 26/07/2022 23:06

Probably one of the busiest times to travel as well, I wouldn’t chance it.

Branleuse · 26/07/2022 23:06

Thats an hour and a half for a domestic flight. Itll be fine.

YourWinter · 26/07/2022 23:07

Not in the first full week of the school holidays, no.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/07/2022 23:12

Stansted is ridiculous -- even after getting through security and passport control
you have to weave past all the high-end shops a long walk and there are no short cuts. And then you might have to get the shuttle to the satellite if your gate is out there as well. Just too risky, IME.

Thegreatestshowoff · 26/07/2022 23:12

Took two hours just to get through security last week so I wouldn’t risk it!

minipie · 26/07/2022 23:18

Normally fine

Right now - hmmmm

marmitecake · 26/07/2022 23:28

45 minutes to get through security last week and that was at 3.30am. Bag drop easy - it's just security that's the issue. We also allowed 30 minutes to get from car park to terminal too.

You do know ireland is an independent country? Has been for the past 100 years.

CherryBlossomAutumn · 26/07/2022 23:38

I’ve got through Stansted security in 20 minutes most times, then 15/20 minutes walking through endless duty free, quick bathroom stop and the gate. However I’ve never travelled on Friday evening.

There is a long walk to the gate though usually, and if you do this you need to be prepared to go straight to security and straight to your gate.

TheivingBIL · 26/07/2022 23:38

Absolutely not, my DDs were refused boarding yesterday even though their luggage was on the plane. Queue for security and baggage drop was over an hour and then there's a shuttle.

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/07/2022 07:47

@OchonAgusOchonOh It's still part of the common travel area meaning it's a domestic flight.

Roselilly36 · 27/07/2022 07:54

Not sufficient time, you will need to change your plans to arrive earlier. I wouldn’t ever rely on the fast track security, not always open, or sometimes it’s use as a general lane. Have fun in Dublin.

JanetheObscure · 27/07/2022 07:57

Stansted is bedlam at the moment. An hour MIGHT be long enough, but you have no way of knowing what the security queues will be like (often long and glacially slow) or how far away your gate will be.

marcopront · 27/07/2022 08:15

Ok it is Birmingham but
10 days ago check in and security 45 minutes at 6;00 am to Greece
Today 45 minutes in the queue so far for bag drop to Kenya
