Where else in Spain or Islands is like Puerto Pollensa?

I love PP but have been there a few times and its prices are creeping up. Is there anywhere with a similar feel that people would recommend?

What do you particularly like about it? I'm trying to work out what you mean by 'feel' to replicate!

ToooOldForThis · 08/07/2022 22:08

Oooh good question...

  • not too busy but still has a good buzz about it at night
  • it's a town where locals live and work, not just a resort
  • beautiful beach
  • easy airport transfer
  • lots of nice restaurants and cafes
  • not far from places to visit eg Pollensa town

PP is very walkable.
Drowning in ice cream shops.
Just busy enough to not be too quiet, just quiet enough to not be hectic.
Lovely boardwalk, beach, sheltered bay.

ToooOldForThis · 08/07/2022 22:15

Oh yes the walking! I loved being able to walk into town.

Answering my own thread, but someone irl has mentioned Santa Eulalia in Ibiza?

I’ve never been to Puerto Pollensa so don’t know if similar but Corralejo in Fuerteventura has all those things.

Namechange7777 · 09/07/2022 15:38

Does it have to be Spain? Can think of lots of non- Spanish suggestions.

ToooOldForThis · 09/07/2022 17:55

Thank you! No, not necessarily Spain, I just thought going further afield made it more expensive, but maybe that's not the case!

Nerja

Yes! I've been to PP and came on to suggest Santa Eulalia. Nice sandy beach, harbour, lots of shops & restaurants, lovely promenade along the sea front etc

ToooOldForThis · 09/07/2022 23:16

Oh thank you both! Santa Eulalia comes in a bit cheaper too, which is good, and I will look at Nerja !

Is there a particular part of SE that is nicest?

Ooo following love PP

PizzaPatel · 10/07/2022 07:22

bigger but still awesome - Alicante. Definitely a town in its own right rather than a tourist trap. Small, pretty, walkable.

Nerja to an extent but not as picturesque and more touristy than Pollensa I think, though I went to Pollensa town not PP so maybe it is the same. Nerja is very nice anyway, super easy from Malaga and lots to see/do/eat.

Callmecordelia · 10/07/2022 07:41

Non Spanish suggestion - Gocek in Turkey. Not been to PP since I was 16, or Gocek since I was in my twenties, but I remember a similar feel.

I don't think there is anywhere like Puerto Pollensa, the most beautiful place. We scattered some of my Mum's ashes there, so she's always got the sun on her face ❤️

Sorry, no help whatsoever 😂

DottyDotAgain · 10/07/2022 07:55

My Mum, who loves PP also loves Nerja.

I haven't been to either, but do have a soft spot for Alicante, which I think hits most of your list but I think is probably bigger/more touristy than PP.

Lysianthus · 10/07/2022 07:58

Alcudia? El Medano, sw Tenerife, or algarve, west I.e Luz?

Thursday37 · 10/07/2022 08:05

Javea or Denia. Denia is a bit busier, I prefer Javea. The beach is lovely, but it’s a working place rather than very touristy. The Montgo is beautiful and there’s the old town and port too.

ToooOldForThis · 10/07/2022 09:01

Oh loads to look at thank you! I didn't even think of Alicante, and will investigate the others. I have been to Nerja but it was about 30 years ago!

When we first went to PP we met some people who suggested Cala D'Or. So we went there the next year. A similar vibe to PP. No big beach but several smaller coves. A good pedestrianised central area with bars, shops and restaurants, a marina with some lovely restaurants, but a bit dearer due to location. Lots of hotels to choose, and plenty of private apts if you prefer self catering. I would also agree with Santa Eulalia in Ibiza. Tossa de Mar is good too, and you can visit Barcelona from there.y

hillbillyannie · 10/07/2022 17:39

Estepona. Wins hands down for me. Working Spanish town, beautiful manicured beach, lovely pedestrian walkway all along the beach to the port, a marina, market on Sunday, shopping street, restaurant street, and a competition amongst the residents to have the most colourful flowers growing in the hanging baskets. Fabulous, but everyone has different views on what works for them.
