Holidays
Canary Islands in October
HeadNorth · 05/06/2022 22:05
I am hoping to take my teen/young adult daughters for a relaxed sunny holiday in October. I’ve never been to the Canaries but I understand it is the place to go for sun in October. Does anyone have any recommendations for nice hotels/
resorts? Fairly budget, please, if possible. Any advice or tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Just hopefully bumping this for the morning crowd.....
Mercedesbenz2022 · 06/06/2022 07:43
Maspalomas has a fantastic beach , but recommending somewhere depends on your budget and likes / wants for the holiday .
SierraSapphire · 06/06/2022 07:45
We really liked both Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, which would be my top recommendation, and Corralejo in Fuerteventura (this is maybe a bit busier). We stayed at the H10 Lanzarote Princess and the Barcelo Corralejo Sands, which weren't the most expensive but also not budget.

Thank you ! As I don't know the islands at all, any indication of where people have stayed and enjoyed at least provides a starting point.
We are looking for a basic beach holiday for a week, mainly to chill out but perhaps a wee explore as well. The priorities are clean and comfy rooms, not need to be super luxurious, just not scuzzy

Playa Blanca, on Lanzarote, is a nice resort. We stayed in a few villas there, and one very nice, but expensive, hotel.

Canaries are a great choice for 365 sunshine, we have been to Tenerife & Lanzarote, we prefer Lanzarote, Puerto Del Carmen is our favourite resort, Costa Teguise is nice too. Been many times to Lanzarote in Dec or Feb always had good weather. Have a great holiday.

Meloneras in GC js lovely. Not a club/stag do crowd, promenade along the seafront with lots of restaurants that takes you to the sandy beach, right beside Maspalomas for other activities. We have stayed in the Riu there a few times and always had a nice time.

It will still be very warm but don’t forget it will get dark early (even tho it stays warm.)
SunnyShiner · 06/06/2022 08:49
The sea is quite cold in the canaries as it's the Atlantic. I'd look at Cyprus for a beach holiday in October.
NCTDN · 06/06/2022 09:07
My choice would be Costa Adeje in Tenerife. I much prefer it to Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.
Amdone123 · 08/06/2022 10:59
We often go to Tenerife September, Oct and always December.
Playa de las Americas is busy, but you can find peace n quiet there, too. Its great for young ones.
Have a look at On The Beach. We get fantastic deals, and we've never had any problems.

Have you made a decision op?
The mention of chilly seas has made me dither. I am now wondering about the Algarve - is that better for October?
No1HolidayPlanner · 10/06/2022 08:42
Algarve sea is cold as it's the Atlantic.. Cyprus is worth considering 😊

Lanzarote is boring and windy, as is Fuerteventura.
I'd say Tenerife is your best bet to keep teens occupied.
October is lovely and warm.
CottonSock · 10/06/2022 08:53
Lanzarote is not boring! The architecture, art, landscape, geology, volcano etc. I loved seeing how they grow the grapes at the vineyards.
Maybe boring if you don't leave your AI resort.
Algarve in October can be cold and wet.
sickofthisnonsense · 10/06/2022 09:07
Been to Gran Canaria in October.
Sea was lovely - much much warmer than the pool!
Weather was warm but cool in the evening/shade.
MsBubbles85 · 10/06/2022 10:08
I am from the Canary Islands and would recommend the following:
Gran Canaria: Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, Puerto Rico. Meloneras is really nice but hotels could be a bit more expensive
Lanzarote: I went with my husband to Puerto del Carmen and stayed at the Gloria Izaro Club Hotel, it has been our cheapest holiday ever! The rooms have a kitchenette area and there is a supermarket nearby so we would have a light lunch in and then go out for dinner.
Tenerife: it is very nice but I have only been in hotels in the city centre but playa de las Americas is the main beach area
As others have said, during the day the weather will be lovely but you might need a light jacket for the evenings.

We are also looking at somewhere for October. For warmer temps menorca, Greek islands, and andalucia seem to come up a lot. Have heart a lot of people say about cold sea temp in Portugal.
BarbaraofSeville · 10/06/2022 11:03
We stayed here in Playa Blanca Lanzarote.
Large convenience store and bakery a couple of minutes walk away, 5 minutes to beach, marina and restaurants, all quite low key. Further afield volcano park, vineyards, caves, water park, Cesar Manrique arty stuff.
rookiemere · 10/06/2022 13:58
We've been to Tenerife in October many times. It's generally mid twenties, sometimes a bit hotter, sometimes a bit cooler.
Costa Adeje is a nice area with excellent beaches and decent hotels. The Hotel Isabel might suit you - it's a great location and has a lovely heated pool. Apartments look basic ( not stayed myself) but the price for the location is usually pretty good. Although this year I found Tenerife too expensive even when booking back in February so plumped for Lanzarote for a change.

Gran Canaria Gloria Palace Resort (San Augustin) I found was great. It is close to Maspalomas and all the usual Gran Canaria stuff.
Las Palmas is approx 30 minutes by bus. Our hotel offered lots of day trips out to various places including rum factory for a tour.
It was approx 28-30 degrees and hot and sunny.
The beach near San Augustin was quiet, nice, and had usual restaurants and water sports.
Small shopping centre about 5-10 minutes walk away too.

Similar to @MsBubbles85 stayed in city centre hotels in Tenerife.
Majorca lovely - depends where you stay. I've stayed all over but mostly friends villas/apartments.
