Help! Lost passports and travelling on Saturday!

We are supposed to be going on holiday on Saturday but have lost our passports. I have literally spent the last 24 hours turning the house upside down and they are not here. I can only conclude that i chucked them out by mistake or someone nicked them (we have had a nanny and a couple of workmen in the house but noone I think would steal them). Tried to book a fast track appointment to replace them and it says no appointment available and from what i am reading we are not going to be able to get one for weeks at best. We can't cancel the flights and DS is going to miss the football tour we were going to. The flights was extortionate as well. I honestly feel like jumping off a cliff.

Have you checked random envelopes? I thought I'd lost mine (I keep all of them in a zip up RFID wallet in a filing cabinet). It turned out that I'd put it in an envelope as ID evidence for something then had just shoved the envelope on the shelf, absent-mindedly.

Changedagain876 · 22/05/2022 21:41

I’d be quick though!

Changedagain876 · 22/05/2022 21:42

Sorry pressed send too quickly - you can apparently run up to passport office and they’ll sometimes help you apparently - worth a call to them, if you can get through.

HellyR · 22/05/2022 21:43

Take out the drawers and not only thoroughly check down the back, but against the inside of the front panel. I'm sure a MNer found hers there some years ago...

Flyinggeese1234 · 22/05/2022 21:45

OP bit of a daft suggestion but can you ask your ex or children if they saw what you did with the passports when handed back after the last trip?

Livelovebehappy · 22/05/2022 21:47

Have you changed handbags? I recall misplacing mine, and found them in a handbag I’d stopped using, in the bottom of my wardrobe. Because they’re so thin, you can easily overlook them when searching in panic mode. Take things out of drawers and search between every book and document.

Fernticket · 22/05/2022 21:49

Did you book the trip online or via a travel agent? If the latter, then you might have left the passports at the Travel agents. Would be worth checking with them.
Failing that, I agree with other posters that they could have slipped down the back of a drawer, it might also be worth checking any bags you keep for travel toiletries in case you put them there. Keep calm OP, you will find them.

JustMaggie · 22/05/2022 21:51

Say a quiet prayer to St Anthony. He is the patron saint of lost things. He'll help you find them.

DollyRose · 22/05/2022 21:52

Might get lucky but 2 weeks ago same happened to my sil. We went up to the passport office in London. (which ever is closest to you) queued for a while. Had to prove flights were booked and flying within 2 weeks and we managed to get seen and new passport that day. Long day but worth a shot?

Apandemicyousay · 22/05/2022 21:53

Have you got your Christmas decoration box out and checked there? Depending on when you last travelled, could they have fallen in there?

BronwenFrideswide · 22/05/2022 21:57

Do Passport Offices still do emergency appointments? Do they still issue temporary emergency travel documents if you are claiming they have been stolen? If you really think they have been stolen then you should inform the Passport Office and have them cancelled.

yellowsuninthesky · 22/05/2022 21:58

Did you get them out to input the passport details for the flights? Or was that why you were looking for them?

I often worry I have thrown things out but you simply cant have thrown them out accidentally. They are too thick and there are too many of them, they are not paper.

Emergency passports are for emergencies. Not because you can't find your passport. You can not get an emergency passport if you are not in the UK.

Emilyrose456 · 22/05/2022 22:08

Make sure to check your old hand bags/ purses xx

DogInATent · 22/05/2022 22:12

I doubt you through away all three passports accidentally.
Do you usually keep them all in one envelope or wallet?

It's more likely you moved them during the tidy up, to "a safe place". And probably not very far, still in the same room.

Stopsnowing · 22/05/2022 22:13

I put mine on top of books in a bookcase when I was coming back from a trip. It was just while I was getting through the door but I forgot to put it away properly. When your ex handed you the passports had you been in the middle of something?

BronwenFrideswide · 22/05/2022 22:13

My point was if the OP is convinced they have been stolen then in that case could get an emergency passport and the others would be cancelled.

Maurepas · 22/05/2022 22:14

Do you have any sort of safe you might have put them in? Have you got any paper work e.g. Covid Certs, plane tickets copy etc from the last trip you took - can you find that - they may be with them. Did you use a different hand bag or hand luggage when you last travelled that you put away?

BronwenFrideswide · 22/05/2022 22:14

Another point have you asked the nanny is she has seen them or moved them?

Cliftontherocks · 22/05/2022 22:15

roofio · 22/05/2022 21:12

Have you physically removed the drawers from the unit? I lost DS' birth certificate and eventually found that it had fallen down the back of the drawer.

This

In a blank envelopes?

ScootsMcHoy · 22/05/2022 22:17

But she couldn't.

Your passport being stolen while you are in the UK and about to go on holiday is not an emergency. You can't get an emergency passport when you are in the UK.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 22/05/2022 22:18

Isn't there a mnetter who is good at finding things? She can tell you where things are.

Toofattofunction · 22/05/2022 22:19

I think the fact you've lost all of them means you're much more likely to find them all together and have put them somewhere "sensible" (i.e. actually not sensible at all).

When did you last have them?

Riseabove · 22/05/2022 22:21

I really hope you find them op 💐
