Help! Lost passports and travelling on Saturday!

We are supposed to be going on holiday on Saturday but have lost our passports. I have literally spent the last 24 hours turning the house upside down and they are not here. I can only conclude that i chucked them out by mistake or someone nicked them (we have had a nanny and a couple of workmen in the house but noone I think would steal them). Tried to book a fast track appointment to replace them and it says no appointment available and from what i am reading we are not going to be able to get one for weeks at best. We can't cancel the flights and DS is going to miss the football tour we were going to. The flights was extortionate as well. I honestly feel like jumping off a cliff.

Very pleased for you op.

But you are crazy to

ventingventing123 · 24/05/2022 14:15

Think the government can run a few day service for anyone who has lost their passport. Do you realise all the checks that need to go on? And then even people who have never had a passport would be trying to apply. It'd be pandemonium and people would lose them far more frequently than already happens

Tigertigertigertiger · 24/05/2022 14:16

is there a place they are normally kept ? There’s a saying that lost things are often within 18 inches of where they should be. I lost my car keys and turned the house upside down. I read the 18 inches thing and found them inside a cocoa tin about a foot from where they should have been.

I am so pleased to hear your update and confess to feeling slightly smug about my suggestion 😬

My friend lost her passport and it turned up weeks later.....she'd taken it to work to use for ID for something, and promptly forgot about it.
Is it possible you've done something similar? Have you checked work bags/ lockers?

Have a read upthread, she's found them.

You were very quick to blame the working class people in your life (nanny, workmen, cleaner), OP. Maybe reflect on why that is.

I would suggest that in the moment of sheer panic then any explanation is better than none - why wouldn’t she question those who’ve been in her house having lived or taken something she’s lost? Don’t we all do that?

She was thinking about people who had been in her house.
Had any members of the Aristocracy visited OP may have pondered their involvement too

@Hoppinggreen thanks for giving me a proper laugh. What a top reply !

I’m pleased for you! Late to the thread but the one time I thought I had lost passports they had fallen down the back of the drawer.

mum11970 · 24/05/2022 22:59

So glad you found them.

AuditAngel · 25/05/2022 12:41

I’m glad they turned up. DH went to Spain on Monday, Sunday night he starts looking for the flat keys. I knew I had seen them not long ago, and thought it was where they were meant to be, he was slamming around the house moaning that people never put things away (he was the last person to use them) and sure enough, they were exactly where they were meant to be, in the bag they are normally kept in!

I don’t think this is fair. OP also says she might have chucked them out herself or that her ex might just possibly have not given them back.

Only I have a 2nd passport, not DSs.

In any event, I am delighted to report that THEY HAVE BEEN FOUND!

They were in the drawer in my office where I always keep them and which I have checked about 100 times. They had somehow stuck themselves or got caught onto the bottom of the drawer above so not visible. We only found them because I was talking to DH and pulled out a drawer in frustration to do a final check and DH caught a glimpse of something red and said hang on, and there they were! I would not have spotted them otherwise.

Thanks all the kindness and support during a horrible 48 hours and for all the tips about checking the bottom of drawers (which I didn't actually do!)

BritWife and Maisie81 you can both bog off. Not so careless now right????

Oh, wow, that's brilliant news!! So pleased for you. Have a great trip!

Erm that's the definition of carelessness and nowt to do with being 'stolen'! 😂

SoupDragon · 27/05/2022 20:40

that's the definition of carelessness

the definition of carelessness is putting them in the drawer they're meant to be kept in? Who knew?!

You checked the drawer properly but they were actually in the drawer...and I'm the idiot? 🤔

riesenrad · 09/06/2022 13:14

Why are you even on here if you are so perfect? Surely you don't have any problems? If I have a spare minute I might read all your threads and start apportioning blame, ok? Or are are just here to judge others? You really do sound like a mean little person

Delighted you found them OP. If anyone can tell me where my car keys could be (that have been missing since about March 2020, fortunately we have the other set) that would be great too! I have tried most of the suggestions here but might start again!

As for people being perfect - not sure how long you've been on MN, but SO many MNers are perfect and never do anything wrong (and neither do their dc). It is tiresome and must be exhausting for them!
