Help! Lost passports and travelling on Saturday!

We are supposed to be going on holiday on Saturday but have lost our passports. I have literally spent the last 24 hours turning the house upside down and they are not here. I can only conclude that i chucked them out by mistake or someone nicked them (we have had a nanny and a couple of workmen in the house but noone I think would steal them). Tried to book a fast track appointment to replace them and it says no appointment available and from what i am reading we are not going to be able to get one for weeks at best. We can't cancel the flights and DS is going to miss the football tour we were going to. The flights was extortionate as well. I honestly feel like jumping off a cliff.

Do you have a family member or friend that can help you look again, sounds silly but when your searching hard you can sometimes overlook , so another pair of eyes/ ideas could help

Insomniacsrule · 22/05/2022 21:00

Check all coat pockets again and all handbags. Especially those you don't use much.
Coat pocket linings.
All zipped compartments in suitcases
Do you have a suitcase with a lift up flap to protect clothes?
Car boot
All car pockets
All files
Umbrella stand
Behind photos

I usually find things in the place they should have been.

Very good luck and let us know.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 22/05/2022 21:04

If all three are missing they’re definitely together . Special holiday holder/ bag / wallet ? Leave it tonight . Look again tomorrow with fresh eyes

Stravaig · 22/05/2022 21:04

@winterrabbit It's complicated by the fact that DS1 and DS2 went on holiday with their dad back in April and they (and he) are sure they handed the 2 boys's passports to me when he dropped them back. I THINK he did too but can't be sure

Hang on OP, have you actually checked with Dad of DS1 & DS2?!

Doesn't help with yours though.
Did you need to give your passport number when booking? Where were you?
Did you panic-check the expiry date during all the media coverage? Where were you?

Clarefromwork · 22/05/2022 21:05

It’s been ages since I have booked a flight but don’t you have to enter passport number when booking?
When did you book the flights? we’re you at someone else’s house? Maybe search the room you were in when you booked as you may have looked at the passports to check expiry dates etc !

Threeboysandadog · 22/05/2022 21:06

When you gave your ex the boys passports where did you get them from. Was yours there at the time. Where were dh and ds3’s passports. We’re they all together then. Picture the boys getting home. Did you go to the door. Picture it exactly as it happened. The boys came in, ex handed them over to you, what did you do next. Did he hand anything over with them. Bags, souvenirs. Check the bags the boys had with them. Did you put them somewhere safe at this point ready for this holiday.

LIZS · 22/05/2022 21:07

Coat and bag you wore to pick them up? Have you input the passenger info recently for the flights, needed id. Did you need to give reference numbers or scan to school for the trip?

LIZS · 22/05/2022 21:07

Car glovebox?

Acunningruse · 22/05/2022 21:09

You mention this trip is for DS2 football trip- have you had to give passport details to his club? Could you have taken them out for this then put them somewhere?

I'm way too invested in this thread 🙈

LIZS · 22/05/2022 21:09

Were they in an envelope or cover together?

Lavenderlast · 22/05/2022 21:11

When I thought the painter stole mine, it turned out that the passports were sitting at the top of a full drawer and when the drawer was opened the passports slid backwards and fell down off the back of the drawer. into the inside of the cupboard frame. Didn’t find them until I disassembled the cupboard two years later 😬

All I can say is good luck OP!

roofio · 22/05/2022 21:12

Have you physically removed the drawers from the unit? I lost DS' birth certificate and eventually found that it had fallen down the back of the drawer.

roofio · 22/05/2022 21:13

@Lavenderlast cross post!

Stravaig · 22/05/2022 21:14

It'll come to you in the middle of the night, OP!

SierraSapphire · 22/05/2022 21:16

This happened to us. No happy ending, I had recycled them (because someone else has left them in a stupid place). DD lost an £800 long weekend to Italy and went to Wales instead.

WakeyCakeyHeart · 22/05/2022 21:17

Back of a draw, stuck in the frame is my guess or fallen from a drawer and is underneath. Pull all likely suspect draws out check inside the frames.

Do your travel cases have split linings ? My passport once slid into a split in my suitcase, took me weeks to find it.

If they are all lost they will be together and likely where your family admin paperwork is kept. Keep looking and keep us posted.

goingtotown · 22/05/2022 21:19

Glove compartment in the car?

StageRage · 22/05/2022 21:29

Every trousers, jeans and shorts pockets.

My friend’s was in her DH’s trouser pocket in the wardrobe.

Lockheart · 22/05/2022 21:29

When did you book the holiday? Did you have to give your passport numbers to the airline / travel company? Could you have moved them at that point if you needed the passport numbers then?

Sunnysundays33 · 22/05/2022 21:29

Yes try glovebox!!!! I lost travel money once, that's where it was?! Good luck xxx

Pennox · 22/05/2022 21:31

Down the back of wherever you normally keep them

HalleLouja · 22/05/2022 21:33

Mine were randomly in the back pocket in my car….. I had even checked the glove box. Unfortunately I had already cancelled mine. Hmm

AuditAngel · 22/05/2022 21:35

When i “lost” my passport, I found it about 2 years later zipped into the inside pocket of a handbag.

Izzieloo · 22/05/2022 21:36

Mine was in the printer.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 22/05/2022 21:40

Mine was inside the travel kettle
