Provence in the summer. In a beautiful house in the country. Tend the garden in the early morning, in a light mist. Have a coupe of eggs from the chickens for breakfast, then wallow in the pool before the day really heats up. Lounge in the shade from 11 till 3, reading a book, sipping a cool drink, maybe just closing my eyes and relishing existence. Then another swim, and later on, as the sun went down, I'd roast a chicken in the outdoor oven, pick a couple of tomatoes swollen with the heat and sun, and a bit of baguette and (Irish!) butter.

I can smell every moment of it; the plants, slightly damp, waking up and looking forward to the day; the slight chlorine smell of the pool; the hot rock of the patio slabs baking in the midday heat; the flowers making the air thick with sweetness; the chicken roasting combined with the smell of the neighbour taking advantage of the cool evening to cut the grass; the garden as night falls and the plants, relieved, settle for the night.

Must it only be a month?
