Anyone been through here recently? We're flying from here at lunchtime next week and I'm wondering what the queue situation has been like recently.

The bag drop sounds like a great idea as it's one less thing to do the next morning.

Can the bags be checked in within about half an hour?

So if bags are dropped evening before. Allow 90mins for security and gate should be open by the time through so maybe get there two hours before if bags already checked?

I've now booked a hotel room at hotel so we can drop bags night before.
I assume if you've dropped bags in & checked in online you can travel through security when ever you like the morning of the flight?

I would have thought so as they issue boarding passes when you check in online.

Question is how long before the flight do you arrive? Need enough time to get through security without not leaving so much time that you're clogging up the queue

We’ve flown a few times recently and it’s been the same as always. No additional queues although one time we had to wait a while at the gate. We don’t do fast passes or cabin luggage though but have done a lot of different times of the day and never had any issues. Stanstead on the other hand 😫

I'm going to allow 2.5 hours for security. If we get through in an hour then great we can have breakfast at the airport.

Yep just head straight to security you just have to have made sure you've checked in online before you drop your bags.
Bag drop took about twenty mins, honestly I would highly recommend to anyone with an early morning flight because the airport is rammed

I'll do an update tomorrow on this thread. We are flying from Birmingham tomorrow morning.

So..went to security at 5.15 this morning. 30 mins to get through with fast track, maybe an hour without. Long queue but they moved really quickly, much better than has previously been reported thankfully.

Awesome so plenty of airport time
Before heading to the gate. Would you say you timed it about right then?

Have a fab holiday!

Yes our flight is 8.05. we are at the gate now, there was plenty of time for a Costa breakfast and a look in some shops first.

Anyone got any recent updates? It seems that there is massive queues again!
I'm assuming this is due to half term.

I really thought they'd have sorted it by now.

I really thought they'd have sorted it by now.

if you sack half you staff at a time when unemployment is at its lowest & job vacancies outstrip those unemployed- it’s not going to be sorted quickly

supply chains means they don’t have staff to put cases on planes, put food on planes, man planes with staff whilst in the air

and it’s half term, so really busy

if they employ staff, they have to get through security checks, which take time, then training so a 10/12 week turn around

Morning all.
Currently sat having my breakfast and a well deserved glass of fizz.
We didn't do bag drop or check in online, flying with TUI. Check in was the slowest part but well managed, staff with lots of smiles and pre holiday banter! The luggage belt broke which added some extra time but without this it would have been quicker. There were a number of TUI check in desks open.

We are flying with a baby so went down the fast track security lane. There was only one person in front of us at the actual scanner but because we had to scan baby items people in the non fast track lane were in duty free before us.

Our flight is delayed by 2 hours but we knew this yesterday and have packed accordingly.

I appreciate we are not in the air yet but we are flying long haul so I don't expect that we will face massive delays. Any questions please ask

How long did it take to get through security?

Report
bb800sam · 01/06/2022 10:28

I was pulled for a full body scan and search, baby food scanned and sons bag was also pulled for swab and extra search. All done in less than 6-7 minutes. There wasn't even a queue!! I was dreading check in and security but it was actually ok. The airport is busy but ok.

Interesting with all the stories in the media....
we're checking in bags night before so will be straight through to security.

Watching with interest as we are flying with Easyjet from Manchester early July, have just managed to book fast passes for security. I am terrified of flying and have to take Diazepam and queues add a lot of stress for me!

I noticed people are saying they dropped the bags the night before but on the Easyjet website it states bag drop off only opens 3 hours before the flight?

Report
ivykaty44 · 01/06/2022 21:56

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTangoI don't think easyJet fly from Birmingham, so its not been relevant.

I am taking hand luggage only now, as many reports of luggage not arriving or long waits for luggage etc so Im just taking hand luggage for a week, hard soap, block shampoo and I shall buy suncream at the airport - I can't be worrying about having to queue up for checking in baggage for an hour and then security onto of that

DuesToTheDirt · 01/06/2022 22:08

@ivykaty44 EasyJet do indeed fly from Birmingham.
