Anyone been through here recently? We're flying from here at lunchtime next week and I'm wondering what the queue situation has been like recently.

Good Morning Britain are reporting on it right now.

ivykaty44 · 10/05/2022 07:30

CeeJay81 Thanks

MsMiaWallace · 10/05/2022 08:08

We always get to the airport 3 hours before but I'm thinking everyone might do this!

ChiswickFlo · 10/05/2022 08:16

We have to drop the car off and get to the terminal too...

Eek

Theredjellybean · 10/05/2022 08:21

I fly mostly Monday mornings, on a 7am flight.
Last week running a bit late, got to airport at 05:50.
I always have boarding pass ready on phone, toiletries in plastic bag etc.
There was no queue at all at first security were you show your boarding pass and the queue for bag scan was about 15 mins max... Fast rack had similar queue so I never see point of paying.
The staff were coming down the queue shouting for passengers on a certain flight, so we're helping people.
But honestly the check desk at tui had what I would call a normal holiday queue and security was not long so if people were "near to missing" there flight that day I can only presume they didn't leave much time to get through airport.
While I was queuing people were taking photos of the queue with phones angled to make it look awful... No idea why as it wasn't bad, staff were helpful etc.
I did notice a lot of people just don't seem prepared, so getting to security and having to unpack bags to get laptops out, toiletries in lots of washbaga etc. This slowed people down.
I guess many people forgotten what it's like to travel, I'd say drop bags before, have everything ready and you should be fine.

apparently people flying at 10am are turning up at 5am and then the people flying at 7am who are turning up at 5am can't get through security

Why not just have time slots for security? No more than 3 hours before departure

ahh yes that would stop the spending in duty free and the airport bars

Usou · 10/05/2022 15:15

Yesterday morning at 7 am there were huge queues snaking up and down outside the terminal.

It looked bad but the staff handled it really well pulling people out as the time of their flights got nearer. Made it comfortably in the end. Could have been stressful, but people generally good humoured.

CMOTDibbler · 10/05/2022 15:19

I flew out Wednesday on a 10.30am flight, 5 min at check in and security, and came back this morning landing at 10am and the terminal was super quiet. I saw BHX quoted as saying that the problem is they have more than half their daily passengers going out on the 6-8am flight slots so it is mad then and quiet later

ivykaty44 · 10/05/2022 16:58

CMOTDibbler

they are saying its due to have the passengers 7500 flying at dawn, then the other 7500 flying through the rest of the day are fine

what made me laugh was Birmingham airport have said its due to people wanting to fly early to get away on holiday

as far as I was aware when I book a holiday I get given the plane times and don't get to choose them

the fact Birmingham airport made far to many security redundant and now don't have the staff may be the issue

willitmatter · 10/05/2022 17:04

Got a flight next Wednesday at 7:25am !! Dreading it

ChiswickFlo · 11/05/2022 07:09

I think we are going to leave 3 hours.

Dh can drop mum and I off at the terminal and whilst he's sorting the car parking out I can be sorting out the assistance at the airline desk...

Will need to print our covid passes off later this week.

Restaurants booked, museum tickets booked, wheelchair booked...I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting 😳

CeeJay81 · 11/05/2022 07:28

@ChiswickFlo sounds pretty organised. Where are you going on your hols? 😁

ChiswickFlo · 11/05/2022 07:29

Just to Dublin...4 days.
Taking mum to see family too.
It's been 20 years since I've been there so it'll be interesting to see how its changed.

MsMiaWallace · 12/05/2022 20:41

Any new updates from recent travellers??

NightOwl101 · 15/05/2022 07:47

Anyone travelled in the last few days?

tribpot · 15/05/2022 08:01

I had a look on Twitter this morning - you may be able to view the results of this query. The picture seems to be that checkin times for TUI are immense compared to other airlines (although they've implemented a 'day before' bag drop?) but getting through security is taking 30 mins to an hour.

thunderonly · 15/05/2022 09:01

Does anyone know what jet2 check in times are like ? Think we're going to do their twighlight check in. I think every one will probably have the same idea atm though lol

MsMiaWallace · 15/05/2022 10:13

I'm with jet2 as well

frantic17 · 15/05/2022 10:19

My daughter and her boyfriend flew from Birmingham on Friday on a 12.15pm flight. They got there 3 hours before with hand luggage only and were through and sitting with a coffee within 30 minutes. It seems to be very hit and miss

mycatallowsmetolivehere · 15/05/2022 20:36

I flew yesterday at 1600 for Fuerteventura , it was busy but fine , everything moving . Jet 2 were brilliant . The queue for Tui looked horrendous, security took maybe 20 mins tops . I arrived at 1300 just to be safe . Go early but not too early

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 15/05/2022 20:48

I've flown through Birmingham twice in the last month or so. Both flights were on a Sunday morning departing at 7am or just before. I had hand luggage only, but did notice very long queues for some of the tour company bagdrops. The security queues were absolutely horrendous both times but the airport had staff patrolling the lines and prioritising people depending on flight times. Even with that though, I really did think that I would miss the second flight. I was still in the security queue when the flight went to last call.😱

shinynewapple22 · 15/05/2022 21:20

There may be a problem with check-in/bag drop for some airlines but certainly not all - and even taking carry on only and doing online check in doesn't stop you needing to queue at security - which is where I understand the problem is. We flew on the Friday before the May Day bank holiday and whilst there was a long queue, we got through with no problem . For people travelling later that weekend I understand it was horrendous and a few people missed fights . However - media reporting this week suggested things had improved . Neighbours of mine have been asked to turn up at 2 AM for their 6 AM flight today !!

shinynewapple22 · 15/05/2022 21:24

@thunderonly @MsMiaWallace

We had no problems with Jet2 - very quick through their baggage drop

AmandaHoldensLips · 15/05/2022 21:28

I used B'ham airport a week ago and it was a total shit show, especially for anyone flying TUI.

ivykaty44 · 15/05/2022 21:55

@AmandaHoldensLips what was the problems you faced & what time of day was your flight?
