HELP PLEASE! DURHAM PASSPORT OFFICE

Long shot but does anyone have a direct contact number for Durham Passport Office or the Upgrade Team?

I applied for my twins' first passports almost 10 weeks ago and we're due to travel on Tuesday (5 days' time). I applied for an upgrade over 10 days ago but haven't heard back from the upgrade team. I've chased a few times but still nothing. I've tried to call the customer service number over 150 times in the past 2 days but it keeps saying "due to high call volume we're unable to take your call". I'm at my wits end! No one gets back to you!

Any help greatly appreciated!

@Gajan you cannot get an appointment I joined the Que with 150 other people who were waiting for passports they are extremely helpful the lady who helped me couldn’t stop apologising my application was in Durham my local office is Peterborough I have heard some offices are not so helpful London particularly Durham and Peterborough are the most helpful they put people in travel date order in the Que Liverpool it’s first come first serve. Go 48 hours before you just show them proof of travel as they will not help other wise they want to see proof of travel they will not help any one who’s flying in 48 hours and the application has only been in the system six weeks it’s got to be over 6 weeks i went at 7am some people I spoke to went at 4am they open at 8.30 they come out and move people in the Que in travel date order so the people who sued at 4am weren’t happy some were moved to the back as there helping in travel date order. Everyone got seen that day if they can help you they will. Not one person in the Que had an appointment as appointments get seen first but you can’t get one! They come down the line and ask if anyone has an appointment the passport office tells you not to go down, well if you stand to lose over £5k normal people don’t listen to them go to the office. They phone calls the emails waste of time.

@Viviennedluca
Thank you so much again and I really appreciate all your efforts to help me. So now, I reconfirm my understanding from your answers. Even though my child's online application and supporting documents (old passport) went to Belfast, still I can go to Peterborough office 48 hours before my travel date (we fly on 10th Sunday afternoon, so I think I can go on Friday 8th morning around 7.00pm which will be just over 48 hours, but as we plan to fly on Sunday, I think Friday is the possible latest day I can go) without appointment and can que up for help, am I correct?

@Viviennedluca
Thank you so much again, I will do, just couple of more questions if you don't mind. This is my child's passport, so should I take my child to the passport office, or I can just go alone?
You mentioned that you spoke to the examiner in Durham, how did you manage to speak to the examiner? I don't have any contact details to talk to Belfast? when did you spaek to the examiner? on the same day or before you went to Peterborough?

@Gajan no you don’t need to take your child you need application number and proof of a booked holiday I never spoke to the examiner Peterborough spoke to Durham and got them to pull my application out and asked them to approve (examiner to approve it) so they could print it.

Hi I’m flying Sunday and my details are in Durham and I live near Liverpool I’ve had no call back like everyone else. Is it worth me going to Liverpool passport office? If so what do I need to take? Mine is a lost passport they have had the application over 8 weeks now

thanks

@Statto613 Liverpool are first come first serve so get there early they don’t do date order tahr proof of travel with you and your passport ref number 48 hours before flying not sure what to take for lost passport.. you might need to Google that what did you send to them? You might need your birth certificate

Report

Statto613 · 29/06/2022 10:49

I didn’t have to send anything as they classed it as a renewal I think. All I’ve got is my driving license and proof of travel on a screenshot and email will that be enough you think?

Hi sorry for the probable duplicate of information. Application submitted on the 26th April, we fly out next Wednesday 6th July. I have like others been trying to speak to customers services, and never get the same answer. I sent an Upgrade request to Durham last Wednesday. Was informed id get a reply in 48hrs. Not had one so chased again Monday and Wednesday. Been told that they will contact me before flying out but I don't have much confidence. Can I ask what the situation is at the passport offices in person? Nearest one is Peterborough, I'm happy to travel there if people are seen but also read they do not deal with f2f enquires? Does anyone know if the passport offices are open at the weekend? Any help greatly appreciated.

Gajan · 29/06/2022 13:31

@NortonM
I am in same situation, my understanding is that from the advice from one of the helpful person is that we can go in person 48 hrs before the travel date if the passport is in their system for more than 6 weeks. Please read the messages above.

Hi all, very new to this.

I am in the same boat as most. I fly a week tomorrow and have heard zero from the upgrade team. My application has been sat for over 7 weeks. My nearest office is Glasgow but my application is Durham. What office would be best to go to and will they help me if I go 48 hours before I fly?

I have been through every possible emotion with this arduous process and we are now down the the wire.

Any advice would be very much appreciated x

@Emz2002 go to your local office 48 hours before you fly, you could try going abit earlier to see what they say… like 3 days before you fly you must have proof of travel

@Viviennedluca as you seem to be the expert on this thread could you answer a couple of questions please.

After 14 weeks of them doing absolutely nothing with our applications I rang the helpline and was they hadn’t been looked at yet. Was told the progress team would ring back in 48-72 hours, needless to say they didn’t. I rang them back Tuesday evening and was told all 5 applications have now been approved and waited to be printed. I asked the lady to confirm this a second time which is did but I don’t feel 100% confident she was telling the truth. The automated phone service were you can check progress hasn’t changed from we have received your application and I have had no track info for any passport. My question is how likely is it the lady lied to get me off the phone and any advice how I can actually check what the lady said is correct.

Report

Viviennedluca · 30/06/2022 19:27

@ActualMadness they told me that mine was with an examiner then I called back and then they said it’s still
mot been checked… they lie the people on the phones are gate keepers I was waiting 13 weeks.. I’m also in the process of taking them to a small claims court due to the lies. When Got my passport when I went to the office two days later I got an email to say it’s with an examiner … when actually it was upstairs in my room. The only thing you can do is call back again, I couldn’t check my progress as it was a post office application check and send the people on the phone can only check online applications you normally get a call back for paper applications and that’s from
the progress team who can see paper style applications

Report

ActualMadness · 30/06/2022 20:14

@Viviennedluca thank you. So they do lie then which is what I expected but to say they’ve all been approved and sent for printing is really one step to far for me. Do they record calls at all do you know? I will ring back tomorrow and see what they say, I can say I am at all happy with the service. This is paper applications as well

Hi guys, I’m due to fly this Sunday and still no call back from the upgrade team!!!!! So I went Liverpool passport office yesterday and waited for a while and the office came down the cue and asked me when I fly I told him Sunday he advised me to come back Friday which is tommorow and I will get my passport. People in front of me where flying today and tommorow he issued them with a raffle ticket and they went straight in the office. So I’ll be there first thing in the morning and hopefully get my passport I won’t be leaving till I do!! Can I just ask is there anyone who has done this? Is proof of flights ok via mobile screenshots? I’m sure I seen other people just show flights on there phones yesterday

@Viviennedluca we don’t fly until next month but they have had our applications for well over the 5 weeks wait when we applied and well over the 10 week wait they now quote. My dd turned 16 last week and I can no longer order her medication on my NHS app she needs to install it on her own phone, perfectly fine but she needs her passport to do this. In our area NHS app is the only way to order medication, I have asked at the doctors got a flat out only through the app, the offered her an appointment which I accepted but it’s not until 18th August!
