Is there a thread asking where everyone is going for Easter yet? If not, this can be it

I am fed the feck up and want some sun.

I notice that schools are off for 2 weeks - end March/April and wondered where everyone is going on holiday (or if you are).

Please tell me where I can get guaranteed sun, not longhaul flights, cheap.

We have a week away booked, going on 22nd March. We have hired a town house on a golf course a few kilometres outside of Malaga, with some friends and their two DC.

Flights have cost us about £500 for the three of us
Town house is £360 for the week (for the house, not per family)
Think car hire for a week will be about £100

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 13:46

is Spain warm in March?

Going to Dublin for a week and then back to Budapest and driving to Legoland in Stuttgart. No sun planned!

ShrinkingViolet · 09/01/2008 13:49

my parents were going ot take the whole family (there's not actually that many of us!) away "somewhere warm" at Easter - actually turns out we're going on a canal boat in Ireland .

Artichokes · 09/01/2008 13:50

I have been investigating this for weeks Oliveoil. I too am desperate for sun but don't want longhaul. There is not much choice as Easter is so early.

Turkey, Greece, Italy and Croatia are out as most flights don't start to early May (and few hotels are open). Sun not guaranteed.

Sicily should be pleasent t-shirt weather but not pool lounging. However, all accomodation I have found is very expensive.

Sharm El Shiekh in Egpt will have guaranteed sun and is not really long haul. Not much to do there though (except pool lounging or SCUBA). We want somewhere with little cafes we can stroll to so Sharm is not for us.

Cyprus should be hot but I hate the idea of Brits on holiday in Cyprus. Same goes for the Canaries. And for Florida.

As you can see - I have no answers!

Hulababy · 09/01/2008 13:51

I am hoping so oliveoil. It is currently 17 degrees in Malaga apparently, and it is only January. I don't think it will be sunbathing/outdoor swimming hot, but warm enough for just t shirts.

Artichokes · 09/01/2008 13:52

Spain not hot in March/early April. Even Malaga only averages about 15 degrees.

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 13:52

I am getting fed up and down with this weather and constant colds and need some sun GODDAMMIT!

I would like a villa or self catering, quiet beach, no childcare stuff, no entertainment, few good places to eat

with some sun

is Tenerife hideous?

OP posts:
moondog · 09/01/2008 13:53

You want Morocco (utterly fab) or Tunisia.

Artichokes · 09/01/2008 13:53

Sorry - that sounded a bit brutal. I hope Spain is hot for you Hulababy. I doubt it will be pool weather but you might be lucky.

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 13:54

dh been to Tunisia and hated it (when he was 14! ) so has dismissed that idea

am going to have a mooch about on some sites and get some ideas

OP posts:
suzywong · 09/01/2008 13:55

oh ffs OO
you'll be getting per-lenty of sunshine soon enough
I'm going here

moondog · 09/01/2008 13:56

Morocco then.
One of the best places i have ever been and I have been everywhere believe me.

Oliveoil · 09/01/2008 13:56

yes but I need sun now

I am quite fed up and down

OP posts:
moondog · 09/01/2008 13:57

Ooh that looks nice SW. I don't know much about WA.

I think I am spending Easter in Bangladesh if dh's new job comes off.

Artichokes · 09/01/2008 13:57

Moondog - can I ask where you would recommend in Morocco? And would you go there with a 18 month old?

bossykate · 09/01/2008 13:59

i really fancy going to barbados or tobago - but doubt if we will able to afford that this year

marrakech also a contender subject to the afore mentioned budgetary costs.

chopchopbusybusy · 09/01/2008 14:00

We went to Spain (flew into Malaga) for Easter last year. Some days could be described as warmish but it did rain quite a lot and we didn't take nearly enough jumpers. We also spent a small fortune in wood for the fire in the villa. Hope it's a bit warmer for you this year Hula, we were told it was unusually cold for the time of year. BTW Uk had a heatwave while we were there .

Cyprus is unlikely to be very warm in March/April either. Is Morocco/Tunisia warm in March?

IMO unless you want to do a long haul flight, then it's Canaries/Egypt/Israel

Hulababy · 09/01/2008 14:01

Artichokes - no worries. As I saidm not expecting pool weather - just t shirt weather. Friend lived over there for a while and seemed to think that is the type of weather we would be looking at. Hoping so. TBH I just want to get away!
