Mine was Budapest - beautiful city with lot's of culture, nice cakes and coffee.

Jumgfrau region in Switzerland - mountain biking, hiking, the utterly terrifying Via Ferrata and the village summer festival

Rome is my favourite city break

Avignon during the festival

South Africa safari.
Russia - fascinating, but sadly off the table now.
Sri Lanka.
India.
Just about any European city, tbh.

I loved Tegernsee - German Alps. Lots of hiking. It's really close to Munich so spent a day there.

We will be cycling round Lake Constance in September... been there on a day trip and it looks lovely!

Vietnam, did a 10 day trip with Intrepid which was amazing.

Closer to home, Florence and Barcelona.

Cape Town
Cruises anywhere
European winter city breaks in posh hotels with a spa. I think Prague was my favourite place for this type of trip.

Japan - climbing a holy mountain and staying in a stunning Buddhist temple, rising at dawn for the fire ceremony and walks in Zen garden, trekking the Samurai trail, visiting temples in Kyoto and Nara, weird fashion and cool galleries in Tokyo, hot springs onsen, monkey sanctuary, all just perfect.

I agree with Lake Constance - aka Bodensee. Been many times - the thermal baths are particularly good. Recommend the city of Konstanz as a base - also visit Meersburg, Friedrichshafen (for the Zeppelin Museum), Bregenz (for the opera on the lake), the Mainau, Uberlingen.

Done 2 trips to Andalusia, which has beaches (specifically beach bars, we have older teenagers!) but loads to do not on the beach, Seville, Granada, and a trip to Morocco. Just don't bother with Gibraltar, it was crap.

Been backpacking with very small dc in Guatemala and Honduras but wouldn't recommend either right now due to violence.

Canada, west coast we've done twice (dh's brother and family live there). Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Whistler and a wonderful RV trip through the Rockies which was lots of driving but worth it. We'd like to do that again now the kids are older.

We haven’t done a beach holiday for 20 plus years. We have been to amazing beaches and there’s so many other places to see and things to do.

So we have been to Japan, South Africa, Peru, Brazil (well ok a few beach days there), Argentina, Svalbard, Chile, USA lots of times, India, Zambia, Canada, Alaska, Iceland and lots of European cities. Italian ones are great - food and culture. Can’t beat it.

zafferana · 18/04/2022 09:19

Budapest is nice - we love a city break and tend to do one per year in normal times. Europe is so rich in culture that you don't have to go very far to have a great few days away. Rome, Valencia, Lisbon, Malaga, Bruges, Paris, Edinburgh, London - all great. We love going to places like the Lake District and the Peak District for walking, skiing in the Alps, and longer trips where we go from place to place and really explore one region like Tuscany or Andalusia or California.

We go to Germany most years, sometimes at Christmas but also in the summer.
We love the lakes, forests etc and the food is amazing

HollyDayDream · 18/04/2022 09:37

Honestly, mine was London! Went with my teenager and had a blast recently. Theatre, climbed the O2, museums, speedboats, a bizarre Dr Who interactive theatre thing. Loved it.

Also really enjoyed PortaVentura theme park resort in Salou. Lots of beaches around but we were too busy in the theme park and hotel to get to them.

Budapest was lovely but my teenager got a little bored. Great for museums and cafes and a boat tour. And the little island park - forgotten what it’s called something like Margaret? - was nice. But we felt ready to go home after a weekend.

I’d love to go to Lake Garda. Also Orlando. Also eyeing up the Tui Costa Rica Discovery tour. Looks out of this world. Bucket list destinations!
