For ideas/inspiration.
Mine was Budapest - beautiful city with lot's of culture, nice cakes and coffee.

Can I ask what month you went to Bupapest in OP? What was the weather like? That sounds right up my street!

MissAmbrosia · 18/04/2022 11:26

Italian Lakes - Maggiore/Como/Garda. Beautiful scenery and fantastic food.
Lots of Andalucia - Gaucin, Ronda, Cadiz, Seville, Granada.

MissAmbrosia · 18/04/2022 11:30

And especially with older kids - the Dordogne. So much to do - castles, prehistoric dwellings, caves, dinosaur park, accrobranche, boat trips, canoing.

Enzbear · 18/04/2022 12:02

We went beginning of September, the weather was warm and sunny.

Iceland!

And the year before that we did Berlin / Dresden / Prague using German trains. I loved Berlin but Prague was heaving.

NalPolishRemover · 18/04/2022 13:20

We've only ever had 1 beach holiday in over 20 years as it's not our thing at all.
We travel a lot & have done all sorts of trips:
Driving down the centre of France avoiding motorways
Italian mountains & tiny villages in Tuscany
Lake Garda
Driving through Germany black forest region
Many many European city breaks
Australia
Driving San Francisco to LA
New York
Canada
China

My best holiday was a 2 weeks boat trip around the Galapagos- only 15 of us on it and we did snorkelling, walks and rib tours around the different islands. I’m not interested in nature really but it was amazing.
Also had a great time in Bolivia at the salt flats, jungle etc.

TizerorFizz · 18/04/2022 15:50

We did a trip to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. We included the rainforest too so it was a very varied trip. We were on a boat with 14 passengers in the Galápagos Islands and that is the best way to go and you get a guide for the boat so it’s wonderful.

Not Malta.

We love history and adore Italy, Rhodes and Venice but I’m here now and very underwhelmed, staying in Sliema near Valletta and it’s grubby, run down, dog crap everywhere and it’s so hilly I feel like a mountain goat!
Valletta is just meh, the Grand palace is closed as are a couple of other attractions and it’s too cool for boat trips, can’t use our rooftop pool, indoor pool is nice but sauna and steam room shut because Covid 🙄
Food is decent and cheap and so are the buses but I wont be rushing back, we were in Venice, Verona and Lake Garda this time 3 years ago and I wish we were there.

We are here till Friday and I would happily go back home tomorrow, doesn’t help that I’m knackered, had a horredous sinus/ear infection last week and I’m still half deaf.

@BorgQueen
Oh dear!!! It’s maybe a bit early for sunbathing in the Med? I do think cities and countryside are the winners at this time of year. My friend’s grandmother lived there and I remember her regularly visiting her but saying Malta was just a rock. She didn’t like it much either.

BorgQueen · 18/04/2022 20:13

Didn’t want it too hot but expected more than 16 degrees! Very windy as well unfortunately.

Going to the old walled city of Mdina tomorrow so fingers crossed.
We were originally meant to be going to Prague but Easyjet kept pissing about with the flights so I changed to Malta instead.

HipposHaveNipples · 18/04/2022 20:15

Krakow - definitely worth a trip to Auschwitz while you're there.

ProfessorLayton1 · 18/04/2022 20:17

Road trip SW USA national parks
California / Yosemite
Iceland
Morocco
India
South of France away from the coast
Alps
India

ProfessorLayton1 · 18/04/2022 20:19

Lake Garda
New York
Disney Florida
Barcelona combine with Fuerteventura

GingerDuo · 18/04/2022 20:21

Barcelona. Then Prague.

Clymene · 18/04/2022 20:23

I hate Malta @BorgQueen - I think it's really ugly and shabby. Hope your final days aren't too bad.

Mine would be (excluding city breaks) South America, Sri Lanka, Tuscany in Italy, Auvergne in France and Denmark/Sweden

SpaIssues · 18/04/2022 20:32

Not counting city breaks as not a "holiday" in my mind.

But longer holidays that aren't beach that we love.

Disney World
Yosemite
Tokyo/Osaka
Iceland (Northern Lights/Reykjavik/Blue Lagoon)

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/04/2022 20:33

So many...
Canada - Montreal, national parks and Quebec
South Africa - Cape Town, safari, wine region and Hermanus
Tuscany - Siena, Luca, Florence and all around
Sicily - too many amazing places to list
France - the Dordogne, Bordeaux and Atlantic coast
Madeira
Andalucia

We haven't had a 'beach' holiday since our honeymoon in 1998. Holidays are all about exploring and seeing new places for us.

I think you can enjoy beaches but just one beach is boring. We’ve visited the BVIs on a yacht and the beaches are to die for. Having some that a couple of times it’s difficult to get better beaches.

Chasingsquirrels · 18/04/2022 20:44

Botswana safari & Victoria Falls.

Malta.

New Zealand driving holiday.

Alwayspaintyournails · 18/04/2022 20:49

Paris, Bruges, Malaga, Seville, Luca, Rome and Berlin.

2DogsOnMySofa · 18/04/2022 20:53

Barcelona, Valencia, Rome

PenOrPencil · 18/04/2022 20:58

Bordeaux (France),
Black Forest and Baden wine region or anywhere really (Germany),
Lake Geneva (Switzerland)

PegsandBags · 18/04/2022 21:02

Aude region in France. Fly into Carcassonne and float around, it is gorgeous. Then down to Pyrenees, across to Spain and back up to Carcassonne.

Basque country in France and Spain. Fly into Bilbao over to San Sebastian (amazing place), up to Bayonne and back to the coast to fly home from Biarritz.

I am grounded for health reasons at the moment, so I envy anyone able to fly away. Enjoy.
