Would you pay extra for BA Hold luggage at the moment or not ?
bizzey · 21/03/2022 16:20
Travel is for July .
Lots of issues ,that I can see .
Is it worth it ?
Crazykatie · 21/03/2022 16:27
Not just BA, certainly US flights are very expensive currently and they do make you pay through the nose for hold baggage, you would be surprised how much you can get into cabin baggage, if you need to.
Not all airline are the same, check around.
Fivemoreminutes1 · 21/03/2022 16:28
It depends where you’re going, how long and what you’re doing.
Nootkah · 21/03/2022 16:29
How much luggage do you need to take? I would pay for the amount of luggage I needed.
bizzey · 21/03/2022 16:49
Sorry ..just realized I did not explain very well.
4 adults ...5 nights .
( Me and DC's)
Could all do hand /cabin luggage ..
But was just wondering if it would be easier to do one booking with baggage allowance .
Just lots of issues with BA at the moment with luggage not arriving ?
bizzey · 21/03/2022 16:51
One person with baggage allowance .
Otherwise , the whole booking wants everyone to have hold allowence ..which we do not need .
gogohm · 21/03/2022 16:57
Do you need it if not don't. Luggage systems break periodically, always have done, it's just 24 media report it now
Icecreamsprinkles · 21/03/2022 17:03
If you are not flying until July you have time to think about it. You can always add baggage onto your booking. We are flying with BA on Thursday with hold baggage booked, but out of Gatwick so hoping it is a bit better there. All the issues appear to be Heathrow.
I will report back if I have any issues

4 adults ...5 nights
no! No way. The cost is extortionate.
fwiw, we flew transatlantic with DD who is a clothes horse plus I brought 2 sets of skates, wrist guards & a bike helmet (helmet legally required for kids skating where we went). We had exactly one checked bag for 5 adult size people staying 9 nights: DD's clothes, shoes & 1 set of skates in there.
bizzey · 21/03/2022 17:06
I thought it was cheaper to book it while booking flights ?
lljkk · 21/03/2022 17:07
ps: you can always pay later if you find a need, there is no reason to commit now. Ideally pay day before, it's only on the same day as travel that they tend to hike the price to something crazy.
bizzey · 21/03/2022 17:09
Sorry ..1 checked bag for all 4 .
Hand luggage for each .
bizzey · 21/03/2022 17:10
It would be nice to get on plane without having to manage cabin size suitcase up the aisles .
MindPalace · 21/03/2022 17:41
This is not helpful to you at all sorry, but with our Heathrow luggage fiasco, we refuse to travel with ba again. So I vote no luggage. Good luck!
Crazykatie · 21/03/2022 18:05
We flew in January to a hot destination, packed everything in cabin bags then used laundry services where we stayed, cabin bags remove the doubt and holdup as well as cost of hold luggage.
bizzey · 21/03/2022 18:05
@MindPalace
Thank you !
That is my concern.
So sorry you had a difficult time with them.
I do think stress levels would be better if they me curtailed our luggage !
MindPalace · 21/03/2022 19:45
Can’t believe passengers are even having to think about this. It’s crazy.
JorisBonson · 21/03/2022 19:48
Having spent 4 hours at Heathrow waiting for my bags in Saturday night, I'd try to cram everything into a cabin bag. That was a BA flight too.
WhatsitWiggle · 21/03/2022 19:49
Have you already got accommodation booked? As BA include hold luggage on flight+hotel bookings (ie booked together, not hotel added on separately).
MaizeAmaze · 21/03/2022 19:52
4 adults, 5 nights is fine on cabin only if you aren't doing too many varied things. So if you are at the opera, climbing a mountain and on the beach you will need a case. If you are just sitting by the pool, it should be fine.
ParisNext · 21/03/2022 19:58
Flew from terminal 5 on Saturday BA. Booked hand luggage only then paid 30 pounds to add one bag as had younger children and liquids etc and it was too much to manage but normally we do as you said. It was horrendous at check in/bag drop off and I wished I’d been able to keep to just hand luggage.
balalake · 22/03/2022 16:54
Pity you have chosen BA, but as you have done, would suggest hand luggage only.
bizzey · 22/03/2022 20:34
@balalake
Who would you go with ?.
Genuinely interested .
It has to be from Heathrow .
