West coast of Canada. Vancouver, Whistler / the Rockies and Vancouver Island incl. Tolfino. Best holiday ever!!! Lake swimming, mountain biking, surfing, canoeing, bear and whale watching, great food, great views. Best holiday ever!

And the flight is surprisingly only 9 hours.

itssquidstella · 28/10/2021 09:21

Costa Rica is fabulous. Great health care too, so no need to worry about diseases 😂

ChipsNCurry · 28/10/2021 09:23

Thailand
Malaysia
Costa Rica

Been to all of them, all fantastic. Although Thailand and Malaysia may be a bit hot for your DH! Hotels are a great standard and air conditioned though!

AnGofsMum · 28/10/2021 09:25

We’re hoping to do Costa Rica in a few years when DCs are similar ages to yours. Might be too hot for your DH though?
We went to Sri Lanka pre-kids for a 2 week tour and loved it. Isn’t it slightly politically unstable again at the moment though?
@GoingBacktoSchool123 - Canada sounds incredible. Was this a fly-drive? What are the summer temperatures in this bit?

cataline · 28/10/2021 09:27

We're looking at Costa Rica for a holiday with teens next year.

We like activity, adventure, warm weather and excellent food.

We also like a bit of luxury and hotels that aren't really busy or with loads of small children.

We did Mexico before Covid and it was superb. Stayed at Hotel Xcaret near Cancun and made full use of the access to all their parks and trips. It was incredible but would be beyond £10k budget.

There are cheaper hotel options and you could still do the parks and trips separately though.

I was also coming to say Costa Rica, we did it in August about 10 years ago and it was one of our favourite holidays, I would love to go back.

We did two weeks across Arenal, Tortugero and somewhere near Limon which the name escapes me. We went as a big family but for us 4 it came to £7k back then and that included a lot of activities, zip lining, abseiling, hot springs to name a few.

It was hot but I don't remember it being unbearable apart from on one day. The food was gorgeous (and there was plenty of pizza for the fussy kids..) I'm sat reminiscing now think I might need to get the holiday photos out! It really was amazing I wouldn't let the diseases put you off, for malaria we just needed a tablet once a week for the 3 weeks were there.

Sorry realised that makes no sense, the malaria tablets were one the week before we went and then one a week whilst we were away so 3 in total. We were also recommended to take a vitamin daily for 3 months before we went (possibly b12) but can't really remember why and no idea whether the advise is the same now!

Here to second Malaysia, so many options for a twin (or more) centre holiday. We started in Kuala Lumpur (culture/great food) then train to Penang (more culture and food!) before getting a boat to Langkawi (jungle/wildlife/beaches to chill). I really think it ticks all your boxes and very good value for some great hotels.

Samanabanana · 28/10/2021 09:45

West Coast of Canada! Rockies plus Vancouver Island. Loads to do, loads of culture, mountains and beaches and rain forests. Loads of great food and adventures to be had and it's hands down the prettiest place I've ever seen

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 28/10/2021 10:07

It was a fly drive. I thought the weather would be like an English summer but it was much better. Sunny shorts and t-shirt weather most days. Mid-20s mostly. It was quite odd being in a snow covered mountain in summer clothes. The only place that was super hot was high up in the Rockies where it was mid/high 30s.

Our itinerary was:
Vancouver - Fairmont Pacific Rim
Rockies - Echo Valley ranch & spa
Whistler - Nita Lake Lodge
Ferry to Vancouver Island
Tolfino - Wickaninnish Inn
Sonora Resort - water taxi from Campbell River area
Vancouver- Fairmont Pacific Rim

Some of these places were £££££ but there are tons of other options which would be in the OPs £10k budget.

Cycling round Stanley Park in Vancouver is a great day 1 jet lag buster and we loved the Fly Over Canada attraction. All the other places have unique outdoor activities.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 28/10/2021 10:13

We’ve also done Asia including a multi centre trip Singapore - Langkawi - Phuket - Bangkok which was fabulous but more Xmas hols destinations than Summer.

hothotsun · 28/10/2021 12:12

Place marking, as I'm looking to do the same and have very similar priorities to you OP (except that it's me who doesn't like the heat!). We've done British Columbia (pre kids) and it was an amazing trip, so we might do that again. Also v tempted by Costa Rica and Mexico though. DS loves bird watching and I think Costa Rica's great for that. Can anyone give an idea of the summer temperature in Costa Rica?

The other thing I'm considering instead is a Scandinavian trip. Might start a new thread for ideas on that.

Palavah · 28/10/2021 12:16

Vietnam?

Zodlebud · 28/10/2021 14:01

Singapore and Bali (as a multi centre trip) or Costa Rica.

bluesky · 28/10/2021 14:32

Langkawi is fantastic. Huge hit with my two boys when we went.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 28/10/2021 14:35

Yes to Lagkawi. Came here to say that. Twin it with Singapore/Borneo. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend Kuala Lumpur, but it was 10 years ago that we went.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 28/10/2021 14:35

Langkawi*

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 28/10/2021 14:36

Would also agree with the British Columbia recommendation at the top of the PPs - Vancouver, Whistler etc. No jungle but very outdoors!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 28/10/2021 14:42

Kuala Lumpur for 4 nights, Siem Reap ( Angkor Wat) for 3 nights then on to Bali, Ubud and Sanur for 10 days. Lots to do and see, and relax.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 28/10/2021 15:21

We've also done Malaysia (KL and Penang), Mexico (Cancun) and Australia and although they were all obviously amazing holidays Costa Rica was number one for all of us.

For pp asking about the heat, from what I remember it was mainly mid-high 20's with one day where it was about 35. There were heavy rain showers which cooled it down a lot on most days but don't let this put you off! We had heavy duty rain ponchos which kept us relatively dry if we got caught out but once it stops raining you dry really quickly because of the heat.

Petalpup · 28/10/2021 15:41

We are hoping for a similar holiday with a similar budget
Thinking of Mexico in the Easter holidays but will now look at Costa Rica too
