Usually holiday in UK and France, Spain. Planning to do a big one off 2-3 week holiday with 16 and 14 yr olds next summer (early July - end Aug). Trying to please everyone!
DH - not too hot! Interesting culture
DS - rainforest/jungle/ wildlife
DD - time to chill
Me - different culture, food etc
Budget - MAX £10k Ideally at least 2 x centre trip
Please give me your ideas!

Wow thanks all! Canada does sound amazing, looking for something a bit more culturally different this time though.
Costa Rica sounds fab, bit worried about Zika and malaria …. Mrs mcClusky has put my mind a rest a bit though! It does sound fab as does Malaysia.
Cataline - what did you do in Mexico?

We did Malaysia, Java&Bali, Borneo, and the US east coast with our teen kids. I’ve also been to Costa Rica (without them).
Top trips for food, culture and wildlife were Malaysia and Borneo. Borneo is fantastic all round - especially for birds (but also for monkeys and pygmy elephants!). We did a 3 site trip including jungle and ending with fab beach resort.
Costa Rica famously has the best wildlife diversity and that is amazing, but it’s short on culture/food.

We’ve narrowed it to either KL,Langkawi and Borneo or Costa Rica and New Orleans so thanks to everyone for your help and tips!
Going to start pricing up …
Also very interested in your Scandinavian trip pp, would love to do a European inter railing trip too but thinking we can do that easier in future whereas long haul is likely to get priced out in next few years possibly.

I wouldn't go to New Orleans in July/Aug - it will be stinking hot, humid and smelly! Costa Rica is also best visited in the UK winter. I'd go to Malaysia/Borneo I think.

underneaththeash · 31/10/2021 21:53

We’ve also enjoyed BC, Vietnam/Cambodia.
Would love to do Borneo and had planned Costa Rica (but cancelled).

When ours were similar ages we did Vancouver then LA for a 2 centre holiday that had everything from mountain hiking and native culture to beachside Segway and theme parks. Really pleasant temperatures throughout. Rented houses through VRBO and flights through Trailfinders as LHR to Vancouver to LAX to LHR was just too difficult for me to navigate online!

VanCleefArpels · 01/11/2021 14:20

Re Scandinavia have also done Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm over 2 weeks with short flights in between - really different vibes to each place and obviously not hot

GoingForAWalk · 01/11/2021 14:25

My DS is obsessed with wanting to travel around the US so we'd do that as we'd all love it too

overthethamesfromyou · 01/11/2021 15:14

We did Belize. Eco lodge in the Rainforest followed by Caye Caulker.
Incredible

Madcats · 01/11/2021 21:57

So that is 2.5k each for 2-3 weeks? Does that include food and transport?

The 14 year old might create some issues if not double vaccinated.

frogsarejumpy · 04/11/2021 20:22

Yes ideally 2.5 k, for at least 2 weeks. Not sure if that is realistic though! Hoping both teens will be vaxxed fully by summer 22.
Overthethames - please could you share details of the eco lodge? That sounds right up our street!

@frogsarejumpy
You said not too hot! Everywhere you suggest will be!

We looked at Vancouver Island for next July. It’s very very booked up. We abandoned it. Just going on a small boat to Alaska only! Above your budget though.

When DDs were teens we did Families Workdwide - teen departures.

Looking at these with interest. How confident are people about booking flights say to Costa Rica for next summer? I had a whole trip planned for Summer 20 with DS14, that was of course cancelled.

TizerorFizz · 05/11/2021 21:39

We’ve booked a package to Canada/Alaska. Not just a flight. If we find we are not allowed in, we reorganise a date. I wouldn’t do DIY without the protection of a package.

rookiemere · 06/11/2021 08:47

Makes sense @TizerorFizz but when I priced up the holiday with a tour operator they had us sharing a room with DS which I'd specifically asked to avoid and was coming out at £6k more expensive than I could price up myself if not.

Think I'll wait until nearer the time or 2023.

TizerorFizz · 06/11/2021 09:14

@rookiemere
We could have done our trip separately but it made little difference to the price. The big issue for us is flights! Big pricing differences between airlines going to Vancouver. We were surprised at that for next June/July.

Chewbecca · 06/11/2021 09:17

Would you consider a cruise? Great mix of relaxing and seeing new stuff.

I’d recommend Alaska from Vancouver so you can spend some time in Vancouver and the surrounds too.

Yes we have done the same, we aren't doing anything huge next year 'just' 5 nights in New York and booked a package with BA. Wouldn't have considered a package for a city break otherwise but glad we did as BA had a sale on and we got a really good deal Grin
Figgyboa · 07/11/2021 18:43

Costa Rica or the Mexican Riviera (cancun, tulum area)
