Hi ladies,
I've done a bit of research into where might be appropriate but am a bit uninspired, hope you may have some ideas.
So, after 2 years of not going abroad, we really fancy 2 to 3 weeks in the sun in January or Feb.
Looking at 5 (ie proper, Four Seasons/Mandarin Oriental version of 5) hotel or ideally garden suite type places.
Very open to anywhere in the world.
Business or First Class flights.
Only constraints are:
Not Dubai
Not anywhere with so much poverty that it's dangerous (was looking at Tulum, Mexico but put off by reports of cartel murders just outside hotels!). Don't fancy India, DH used to work out there and always came back very ill.
It would be nice to go somewhere aimed at adults only but not too bothered about that aspect.
We would never go to big resorts, we like things like Four Seasons private islands in the Maldives type of thing where everything is basically bungalows on beaches with private pools etc.
Any ideas gratefully received.
DH is paying so knock yourselves out Grin

So actually when I said anywhere in the world I was lying

Got to be Maldives or Seychelles really

Or there are various islands in SE Asia eg Thailand Cambodia Indonesia and off Singapore which have been developed into luxury (but small) resorts.

But Maldives is exactly what you like so why not go there

Mumblechum0 · 19/10/2021 12:43

Thanks minipie, yes I'd pretty much come to the same conclusion. Our stay in the Maldives for our 20th anniversary was superb.
Have you been to the Seychelles? Or maybe Mauritius?

I think it's going to be a toss up between those 3 places.

just one little bump in case anyone has any other ideas :-)

There may well be cartel outside the hotels in Tulum. In fact you don't know who anyone is do you? However, you really should think again as Mexico is brilliant! I have travelled all over the country (independently) and Tulum seemed OK to me! The Caribbean is lovely in January - plenty of luxurious places to stay there. Sri Lanka is also lovely as are the people.

Tahiti and Bora Bora. Went for our honeymoon/my 30th. When I'm asked to imagine I'm in my "happy place" it's swinging in a hammock in front of our beachfront garden villa in Bora Bora

Mumblechum0 · 19/10/2021 17:13

Thanks@mrsrobin and @TheCraicDealer.

I’ll take another look at Mexico. BoraBora is somewhere I hadn’t thought of 😊

Now it's a long flight, we stopped for two days in LA on the way out, and then on the way back went to San Diego and Santa Barbara before flying home. People do do it in one go though, and I would argue it's 100% worth it.

Was an amazing trip. Sadly the closest I'll be getting to French Polynesia any time soon is listening to the Moana soundtrack whilst trying to convince my two year old that me serving her her tea isn't a personal attack.

minipie · 19/10/2021 17:30

I have been to Mauritius but not the Seychelles.

My impression is that Mauritius mainly has large hotels or private villas. There are a few smaller boutique hotels but I don’t think they are luxe enough for you Grin

I haven’t been to the Seychelles - wish list!

this article might give you some other ideas. There are plenty of beautiful beachy islands around the world with luxury hotels on them, it’s a question of budget and how far are you willing to travel.

Bora Bora looks wonderful but it’s a helluva journey.

SeasonFinale · 19/10/2021 17:33

How about Sao Tome et Principe. We hope to get there at some point.

Roussette · 19/10/2021 17:40

Réunion Island. It is just beautiful. It's in the west Indian Ocean,
It's a french island so use the Euro and fly from Paris!
Average temperatures Jan/Feb are 28-30.

Rainforest, coral reefs and beaches. Only been once but want to go again!

I think you want this

www.cenizaro.com/theresidence/mauritius?utm_source=google&utm_medium=google_my_business&utm_campaign=mauritius

Friendly island, low crime, not just a resort, there is plenty to do outside the hotel

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 19/10/2021 17:48

Banyan Tree Phuket is open for business, as are several other lovely resorts on the island.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 19/10/2021 17:48

Four Seasons in Mauritius is my happy place. It’s a fantastic resort. Four Seasons Langkawi is also fabulous as is Maui and Hualalai.

Aman resorts will also fit the bill and the Vik hotels in Uruguay with a couple of days in Buenos Aries would also be amazing.

I fancy

cultkid · 19/10/2021 17:51

Costa Rica

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 19/10/2021 17:51

Le Touessrok in Mauritius was lovely, but I found it a bit wet at that time of the year and the sea was cold.

IpanemaPeaHen · 19/10/2021 17:52

I came on to say Brazil and Rio de Janeiro but probably not if you don’t want poverty and violence. Plus it’s carnival in feb, not for the faint hearted Grin

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 19/10/2021 17:53

If you are set on Mexico the Rosewood Myakoba is supposed to be great.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 19/10/2021 18:00

If you fancy Brazil but is afraid of the crime, take a look at Fernando de Noronha. It's an island in the middle of the Atlantic with restricted access, so much safer than the continent. Not sure the level of luxury you're expecting, however.

AutumnAlmanack · 19/10/2021 18:06

Why not Dubai? It's fantastic - all you could possibly want to enjoy. Fabulous hotels, great shopping, lovely beaches, lots to do, and lovely weather.

BlowDryRat · 19/10/2021 18:27

Those months are the best times to visit Central America. Have another look at Mexico and also at Costa Rica.

Hermie12 · 19/10/2021 19:04

I’d say Seychelles has more wow factor than Mauritius but don’t think Jan/Feb are great I’d opt for April time if you can be flexible

FrownedUpon · 19/10/2021 19:08

The Seychelles are amazing. I’d 100% recommend, but unsure about the weather in Jan/Feb.
