Berlin is fab but you can't get in if the teens aren't fully vaccinated (two doses).

Vienna and Prague also good, I've never done Amsterdam.

Do check all those countries' entry requirements as many European nations won't let you in without being fully vaccinated.

musicmum75 · 18/10/2021 23:05

Salzburg. It's so beautiful and small enough to easily explore.

vastgrandupgrade · 18/10/2021 23:08

Vienna is lovely but I’m not sure about it for teens.

FlyingSoHigh · 18/10/2021 23:09

Berlin. So much to do.

MsTSwift · 18/10/2021 23:11

Berlin but be careful the undouble vaccinated teens basically aren’t allowed into Germany or Hungary atm and there are passes needed for France and Italy that they can’t get 🙁

DFOD · 18/10/2021 23:13

Reykjavik
Helsinki
Stockholm
Istanbul

Berlin can be truly bloody miserable in winter, especially in November and February. The only reason it's bearable in December is all the Christmas lights and markets. Global warming has actually made things worse, because now we'll get freezing rain where it was once delightful snowfall.
Greetings from a grumpy Berliner who is not looking forward to another winter here. I'd be buggering off somewhere brighter if I could.

MintyCedric · 18/10/2021 23:52

Depends what your teens are into but Vienna is beautiful.

Fab Christmas markets, lovely shops and cafes, fiaker rides, there's a big wheel type thing and a zoo if you're into that kind of thing.

I went for a couple of nights with DD when she was 13 and we loved every minute even though all we really did was eat and mooch about!

Etinoxaurus · 19/10/2021 00:05

Athens or Marrakesh
Athens for Parthenon and food and funky grimy vibe.
Marrakesh for food, museums and ysl museum hamam etc and fantastic trip out to Atlas Mountains.

MsTSwift · 19/10/2021 00:54

We went to Berlin in May half term a few years ago now it was hot and we loved the swimming pools. Definitely a good summer option.

MrsEricBana · 19/10/2021 01:06

Not overseas but ours LOVED Edinburgh & Leith

ronconcoke · 20/10/2021 23:09

Agree with @MintyCedric re Vienna. I love it there and I went a couple of times as a teenager with my parents. Later lived there as a student. I'd say plenty to do for young people. If they're into old films or open-minded, watch The Third Man before you go and you can do a walking tour of the streets it was filmed in. The zoo is at Schonbrunn a palace and the ferris wheel is at the Prater (also seen in the Third Man!). If it's in December the Xmas markets are lovely and there used to be an ice rink outside the Rathaus (town hall) - probably still is, I just haven't been for years. Loads of quaint, historic Viennese cafes to sit in for coffee and cake, museums and the beautiful old city for walking around.

MintyCedric · 21/10/2021 00:56

@ronconcoke yes there is! And a smaller ferris wheel at the market there too!

There's a Hard Rock Cafe right in the centre if that's your thing...we've never been to the London one but it's our thing to go whenever we're on holiday Grin!

Snugglybuggly · 21/10/2021 01:16

Berlin or Budapest

cormorantes · 21/10/2021 03:23

I got very excited about the possibility of a trip to Berlin, but then realised with 3 teens it was pretty much going to be impossible with current covid restrictions.

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 21/10/2021 04:09

Berlin has a lot for teens. Vienna is stunning but unless the teens are into architecture / history / museums you may find you’re dragging them around.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 21/10/2021 04:55

Yes what do the teens in question like? History, fashion, sport, literature, outdoorsy stuff …. Would help narrow it down!

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 21/10/2021 04:56

PS. Perhaps they might like to have the chance to research and choose? I got to do that with my mam when I was a late teen and we had a fantastic time and bonded a lot.

MissAmbrosia · 21/10/2021 11:55

Dd 17 says Budapest. Vienna is "boring" apart from the Prater. Prague would come 2nd. She also really liked Oslo.

fuschia2000 · 21/10/2021 16:57

Are there any cities not needing under 18s to be vaxxed???

RuleOfCat · 21/10/2021 17:15

@cormorantes

I got very excited about the possibility of a trip to Berlin, but then realised with 3 teens it was pretty much going to be impossible with current covid restrictions.
Technically yes, but quite possibly less tricky in practice than you'd think, mainly due to the Berliners' inherent laziness and laissez-faire attitude. Your covid pass is supposed to be checked whenever you go into an indoor restaurant, but most don't bother. You would need to show it eg for concerts (plus wear a mask), but you can go to museums, exhibitions, shops without showing anything, but everyone wears a medical mask. There are loads of pop-up LFT test stations around (you can't do your own test) and although you have to pay for a test now, the process is pretty quick and easy. And most interestingly: I've come back to Berlin twice in the last month, once flying, once by train, and neither time was I asked to show my digital vax cert on entry. By comparison countries like the Netherlands are really hot on scanning QR codes for everything.
EileenGC · 21/10/2021 18:54

I fly between UK and Berlin a few times each month now, they always check my vaccine certificate. Both ways. If I don’t have one coming into Germany, I must quarantine for 10 days. Once in Germany it’s a bit less strict but I wouldn’t want to lie on the health declaration and at the border.

Spain accepts a PCR instead of vaccines for under 18s, OP.

RuleOfCat · 21/10/2021 20:05

That's interesting to know, Eileen - seems like the UK is subject to special attention at BBR, wonder why...

happytoday73 · 21/10/2021 20:25

I'd put in this type of order....
Krakow, budapest, Reykjavik
Lisbon
Gdansk
Amsterdam
Prague
Oslo was ok
I wasn't overly impressed by Vienna or Copenhagen

I haven't been to Berlin though covid has stopped it twice 😭

bsc · 21/10/2021 21:56

May I ask if the double-dose vaccine thing applies to Austria too? (Or Switzerland??)
Really wanted to take DD somewhere German speaking before her GCSE...
