If so, where are you going? I’m hoping to visit California early December

New York just before Christmas! Excited! Open to any recommendations on things to do - have the Rockettes Christmas show booked 😃

allfurcoatnoknickers · 22/09/2021 14:54

@Djchickpea I live in New York! Happy to provide suggestions - what do you like to do? Is it your first trip?

itsureis · 22/09/2021 15:19

@allfurcoatnoknickers I'm watching for any suggestions as I'm hoping to visit NYC next April.

ineedaholidayandwine · 22/09/2021 15:39

Not yet but hopefully booking in Dec for a California road trip next Aug, need to see what they say re letting in 6yr olds

Djchickpea · 22/09/2021 16:32

Oh thanks @allfurcoatnoknickers! I have been before and seen the main sights but this time coming with my 18yr old daughter who's never been before. I'd like to do something cool in Central Park as kind of missed thatast time. Also big on Food! My daughter is vegetarian and I'd like to take her to a swanky veggie restaurant. Also considering a food tour??

allfurcoatnoknickers · 22/09/2021 21:10

@Djchickpea HIGHLY recommend a food tour. I did a food truck one a few years back and it was ace. So much fun.

RE: Central Park - the zoo is always worth a visit. Keep an eye on their Instagram for more up-to-date activities. If you like dogs and really want to feel like a local, go before 9am at the weekend. It's off-leash hours and all the locals come out with their coffees and dogs for a stroll. If you hate dogs, go after 9am.

Otherwise, for new stuff, take a look at the Little Island, the Highline Extension and Hudson Yards/Manhattan West. Again, check the instagrams for interesting happenings and free things. Hudson Yards also has an observation deck.

Dirt Candy is a very hip vegetarian restaurant. The Butcher's Daughter is "plant based" but also extremely fashionable atm. Miznon isn't veggie, but they're famous for their vegetable dishes like the roasted cauliflower.

For the best EVER view of the NYC skyline, take yourself to Gantry Plaza Park in Long Island City. It's gorgeous.

If you're daughter's into doing things for the 'gram, the Color Factory and the Museum of Ice Cream are fun, if a bit pricy.

We have just moved our October holiday to February! We normally go to Florida every year or even twice a year and have done for the last 17 years so this has felt very strange not to have been for 2 whole years now.

Djchickpea · 22/09/2021 22:06

@allfurcoatnoknickers - brilliant thanks for those recommendations - had my eye on dirt candy and great to see some alternatives to the usual options!

I'm want to book a California/Las Vegas road trip - we want to go at Easter, but I'm waiting on what the rules are going to be for unvaccinated children. The rumour is that they're going to let them in, but at what age are they going to define 'child'? I have DD age 16, who has had one vaccine, and not sure the government is going to give them a second? Then DD age 11 who has no vaccines.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 26/09/2021 09:23

@MarcelineMissouri we’ve moved our November holiday to next November.
Last trip November 2019, we try to go every year to so have really missed it!
Are you doing Orlando and the parks?

Karwomannghia · 26/09/2021 09:29

Always planned to do a road trip this year with the family with dc 17, 16 & 6 but not booking anything till we can be sure!

MarcelineMissouri · 26/09/2021 10:18

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow yep! We last went in Dec 2019. I miss it so much.
We are doing first week onsite at Disney, then 2 days at universal then last week in a villa. I am going to be bawling like a baby when I’m finally walking down Main Street again.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 26/09/2021 10:44

@MarcelineMissouri I think there will be tears here too!
We’re staying at AKL, price was horrific and they’ve removed most of the perks but at this point I’d hand over a kidney to go Grin

BritWifeInUSA · 29/09/2021 16:40

My mum has booked to come and see us for thanksgiving. I’m so excited. She has been trying to get here since her trip in May 2020 was cancelled.

mynameisnotkate · 29/09/2021 16:45

We’re hoping to go for Christmas but I’m a bit worried in case rules change or in case unvaccinated children are a problem (though I hope they’ll be vaccinated by then). Do people think it’s safe to book now?!

astuz · 29/09/2021 18:59

No, I don't think it's safe to book yet. I'm worried about the unvaccinated children thing - they could say that unvaccinated children can go, but have to self-isolate or something, which basically means they can't go.

I'm desperate to get something booked for Easter though.

FlyBlackbirdFly · 30/09/2021 10:50

Unclear whether the single dose vaccine for UK children will be recognized as "fully vaccinated" in the US. Probably not, in which case they have to self-isolate. Another thing to look into is state-specific rules. Have seen at least one state web site recognizing only certain brands of vaccine, administered in the US only.

Hairbrush123 · 30/09/2021 22:42

Fortunately California appears to accept Pfizer that wasn’t administered in the US. I noticed Hawaii isn’t accepting anyone outside of the US without quarantining even if you’re fully vaccinated yet.

Back in March, I booked to fly to LA mid November,. Haven’t seen my family that live there for over two years. ESTA is done, I read today that 8th November is the date airlines are expecting flights to resume properly to the US.

Moon22 · 03/10/2021 22:57

Anxiously waiting for the official announcement (hopefully this week??) But all being well, off to florida mid November! Had put off all my planning, but now daring to get a little excited. Have been ordering a few bits and bobs and got the estas today. Theme parks are paid for but don't have the tickets yet- think some might require reservations. So it will be more of a 'play it by ear,' holiday than totally planned out.. but at this stage, I'd just be happy for the holiday!

MissDollyMix · 03/10/2021 23:05

Booked a while ago to go to New York at Easter. Flights and hotel bookings are all flexible. Am feeling reasonably optimistic, although it would be good to get clarity on the unvaccinated children situation (mine will be 9&11 so no vaccines when we go)

FlowerArranger · 03/10/2021 23:08

Is the US now accepting Astra Zeneca as equivalent to being fully vaccinated?

BritWifeInUSA · 04/10/2021 04:20

@FlowerArranger

Is the US now accepting Astra Zeneca as equivalent to being fully vaccinated?
The entry requirements have not been finalized yet. Currently you only need a negative test to enter, not a vaccine. Which vaccines will be accepted is yet to be announced.
BritWifeInUSA · 04/10/2021 04:23

@Hairbrush123

It has nothing to do with California. Admission into the US is a federal matter. Matters not which state you are traveling to. The requirements to get in will be set by the Department of State at a federal level.

For the same reason a tourist cannot enter with marijuana in their luggage, even if they are traveling directly to a state where marijuana is legal and staying in that state. The federal rules apply when entering the country. The Department of State had yet to announce which vaccines will be accepted for visitors.

Vancouverorbust · 04/10/2021 05:00

I have half a dozen trips booked that have been bounced forward. First one is Boston in December but may pop to Dallas in November. In Canada at the moment
