No holiday haters please. I understand not everyone is comfortable travelling right now but that's personal preference and individual country prefs.

I have been waiting to go to New York for bloody ages! They're allowed to come here no restrictions but we're still not allowed over there. So unfair.

I live in NYC and haven't seen my parents in over TWO YEARS so I feel you. Italians are allowed in right now and my area is crawling with Italian tourists, so it's not a blanket ban.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/07/2021 14:20

Where's the logic?? We've got such a high rate of vaccinations?!!

Well look on the bright side. The longer you stay away the longer you will be thousands of miles away from Donald Trump and his band of Proud Boy racists. Smile.
Every cloud and all that...

allfurcoatnoknickers · 28/07/2021 14:24

To be fair, there is a shitty quarantine to come over from America, which is why I haven't been able to visit, because I can't isolate for 11 days.

Still sucks though.

@KaptainKaveman You know Trump isn't president any more, right?

astuz · 28/07/2021 14:27

We so wanted to go to America this year - it was meant to be a celebration of my eldest DD finishing her GCSEs. I vaguely have Easter pencilled in (in my head, nothing booked), but I'm not convinced they'll open to us by then either.

I'm sure it's political - they've let Mexicans in the whole time, but I'm guessing Mexico has huge numbers of cases and deaths from Covid, even if they're not reported.

KaptainKaveman · 28/07/2021 14:28

I do thanks @allfurcoat but he lives in the US and has homes in NYC as well as that ghastly Mar-Y-Largo in Florida or whatever it's called. The very presence of him is polluting isn't it? It'd put me off anyway.

DD came over last month and only had to self-isolate for 5 days - with tests on day 2 and day 5 (I think) then she was clear after day 5 was negative (which was lucky as it was her sister’s wedding on day 6!)

I thought all U.S. borders were closed to anyone from the Schengen area, except citizens and permanent residents?
FakingMemories · 28/07/2021 14:38

You can still come - you just need to detour for 14 days through Mexico or another “non-banned” country.

Are you sure about this? The ban on travel from the Schengen area is still in place.

They could be US citizens/permanent residents or have spent 14 days somewhere else first.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/07/2021 14:40

Who gives a shit about Trump anymore? He's a nobody.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your thwarted plans @astuz and @allfurcoatnoknickers. I wonder what the real reasons behind it are?? As you say that Mexico and Italy are all allowed in!

…but also a really high rate of infections. One of the worst in the world at the moment.
NutellaEllaElla · 28/07/2021 14:56

Ah boo. I'm frustrated.

Yes I read that the recently too.

I'm starting to think that them opening up to UK visitors/tourists will be a long way off.

They are on our amber list so technically we can leave the UK for the US (and return) with no quarantine but they won't actually let us in.

We have a holiday booked (booked several months ago) to Florida for October half term, but right now I can't see that happening. Luckily it is transferable or we can get a voucher refund if we decide to change it and go another time.

Its frustrating though - and yes, I know it is 'only' a holiday - especially as we are all fully vaccinated.

Cameleongirl · 28/07/2021 15:03

I feel your pain, OP, I haven’t seen my Dad and SM for nearly two years due to the quarantine issue-I can’t quarantine with them and it doesn’t feel right asking friends if I can park my possibly infected self with them( although I’m double-jabbed).🤣
The costs of renting a place, having food delivered, the tests, etc. are just too high for me.

Cameleongirl · 28/07/2021 15:05

Ohh, I so hope that Twitter post is true!!

Italians aren't allowed into the US unrestricted. If they have been in any Schengen country in the preceding two weeks they have to quarantine.

The CDC advises against travel to the U.K.

I imagine it will change when UK covid cases fall.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 28/07/2021 15:27

@GiantKitten Ahhh! I just got the alert for this. My toddler isn't vaccinated though (obviously), so I'm not sure what I'd do about him :(

These are regs for amber list countries.
Under-4s are exempt?

@allfurcoatnoknickers (the rules are so complicated, and links seem to go in circles, it’s maddening Hmm)

FrangipaniBlue · 28/07/2021 17:19

We're supposed to be going to Florida October half term, already moved it from October last year.

I'll be devastated if we have to move it again 😢

NutellaEllaElla · 28/07/2021 17:23

I'd prepare yourself for disappointment i'm afraid @FrangipaniBlue. I had plans for October too but am not feeling at all optimistic about it.
