No holiday haters please. I understand not everyone is comfortable travelling right now but that's personal preference and individual country prefs.

I have been waiting to go to New York for bloody ages! They're allowed to come here no restrictions but we're still not allowed over there. So unfair.

@zafferana "Whether Brits like it or not, we're seen as a plague island in much of the rest of the world."

How do you know this?

Granted this is from December, but I doubt the world view of us has changed given our “leadership”

I'm a dual citizen, I have friends in several other countries, I read foreign media, I have friends who've travelled recently - believe it or not many people in other countries really aren't eager to welcome us right now. They're nervous about large numbers of Brits turning up with COVID in their countries. I've heard of people getting a negative reception in Italy, Croatia and France. If the US doesn't actually need our money right now I don't blame them for being cautious. If the UK had been more cautious itself over the past 18 months we'd be in less if a mess now.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/07/2021 15:41

How many times does it need to be said. Being double vaccinated does not stop you spreading the virus. Common sense.

Cameleongirl · 30/07/2021 21:21

But the Delta variant is now spreading here in the US and the indoor mask mandate has just been reinstated in Washington, DC. So we might be turning into a “plague” country as well!

RoseRedRoseBlue · 30/07/2021 21:26

Can’t wait to get back to the US, I desperately need a Bath and Body Works spending spree 🙂

FromEden · 30/07/2021 21:34

he lives in the US and has homes in NYC as well as that ghastly Mar-Y-Largo in Florida or whatever it's called. The very presence of him is polluting isn't it? It'd put me off anyway.

Fgs, get a grip.

I hope they open soon, I havent seen my parents in 2 years either. Haven't been home since 2018 and have a niece and soon to be nephew who I haven't even met yet. Sad

ChimneyPot · 30/07/2021 22:45

@FromEden If the US is your home are you not a citizen? Why can’t you go?

FromEden · 30/07/2021 23:04

I'm not a citizen. And currently waiting on visa renewal so we cant leave anyway. I dont think I'll see my family this year and maybe not even next.

ChimneyPot · 30/07/2021 23:39

That’s tough

FanSpamTastic · 30/07/2021 23:40

My mum is in the US - seems crazy that she can come here but we cannot go to her.

Poppiesway1 · 30/07/2021 23:52

@RoseRedRoseBlue YES!! We had to cancel our trip last year and I don’t know if I was more gutted at missing family or not stocking up on Bath and Body works!!!
We have family there.. we were meant to go for Easter last year.. obv didn’t go.. we were also meant to be going for Christmas this year. I’ve now cancelled my annual leave for then as don’t want to get to December and still not able to go and would have to use my annual leave up in the cold and wet here.. so am using a week of it for this summer now. We have provisionally booked to go for two weeks summer in 2022 but I’m loathe to book flights yet incase we’re still not allowed. Thankgoodness for FaceTime but it’s nit the same. My nieces will be grown up by the time I see them in person again! Sad

RoseRedRoseBlue · 31/07/2021 01:40

@Poppiesway1 I am on their Facebook group and it’s pretty soon that all the delicious autumn products arrive as well....the lovely pumpkin, marshmallows, apple and cinnamon ones! We have had to cancel one trip and have booked again for May but who knows what will happen between and then? I really hope you get to see your family soon ❤️

Actually you might be able to. My understanding is that if you are the child, spouse or parent of a US citizen or permanent resident you can go. I know of one person who has gone over to visit their parent in the US when they don't personally have citizenship or residency. Check the US embassy website.

Signs that demand is increasing amongst those that can travel.
