Due to holiday on Greek Island in 2 weeks. Really anxiety inducing, anyone in the area boat or can offer reassurance?

Delatron · 11/08/2021 17:14

That’s great news @rufus77 that it’s very faint. I have everything crossed for you!

morbidhamster · 11/08/2021 17:24

We arrived in Corfu today. Travel report:
--Gatwick busier than last summer but not mobbed at 4.30am. Easyjet queues to check paperwork moved really quickly, much better than last year. We were there early though so may be a different picture later in the day!
--It looked as though no one at all off our flight was tested on arrival. Usual level of interest in the PLF (ie low), stamp in passport (new world of non EU??), picked up bags within about 2 mins and off.

I've now got a post-afternoon hangover and trying to cool down in our apartment's air con. Perfect 😃👍

Hmm not sure where that strikethrough came from. Not deliberate.

Brilliant update thank you! Enjoy!
@Summersdreaming enjoy your landing on skiathos- it can be 'interesting!'

It's a very short runway and very close to the road so people gather to watch planes take off and land.

Haha I'm not clicking that I've been diverted after a failed landing on a Greek island before Grin those were the days when that was my only worry!

Delatron · 11/08/2021 18:33

Loving the live time updates. Interesting they’re not testing much on arrival. That’s a relief to be fair.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 11/08/2021 18:35
@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon and if you or one of your group tests positive? What happens? Not goady just interested as I'm not brave enough to attempt holiday abroad this year but thinking of booking next year and judging by the media we aren't ever going to be able to forget Covid........
We obviously would then be in isolation and couldn't fly. Yes it would be hugely disappointing but it would be far preferable to flying all the way there and potentially randomed sampled for a test at the airport and have to spend all our holiday in a quarantine hotel!

If we tested negative, it would also mean that we were much less likely (although of course this is not 100% guaranteed and there is always a small risk) to test negative on our pre-return lft.

Has anyone found a travel insurance that specifically covers self isolating due to close contact whilst abroad? Thanks

We went with trailfinders as it had good cover. Not cheap.
Summersdreaming · 12/08/2021 08:25

Thanks posh I'll have a look later!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 12/08/2021 08:45

We are using CoverForYou:

ArabellaPilkington · 12/08/2021 10:48

Got our LFTs to do with doc tomorrow for return to UK- just tested using NHS ones we brought from home and all negative so should be good to go home at the weekend - although could quite happily stay here all summer.....

Seriously considering coming to Greece for 4 months one summer, bringing laptop etc. Once kids at Uni/cat has carked it.....

poshme · 12/08/2021 11:18

Well just over 4 weeks since we had covid, we all tested negative on day 2 tests so all happy here!

Now just tackling the washing mountain.

Greece was definitely worth the cost and stress!

Sunshine2007 · 12/08/2021 16:12

Just arrived home from Zakynthos, our day 2 PCRs have arrived which we will do tomorrow (Expert Medical). Top tip which I read elsewhere, have photos of your return LFT results and your Passenger Locater Form ready to show on your phone, so you aren’t scrambling around searching for emails. Each party was taking a long time to be checked at the baggage drop because of all the extra documentation needed. I think from getting off the plane to getting through to arrivals hall at Gatwick was about 20 mins, Gatwick was so quiet (around 9pm), our taxi hadn’t even arrived yet!

FizzyPink · 12/08/2021 16:21

Great tips @Sunshine2007 thanks! We’re off on Tuesday and I can’t wait! Anything you particularly recommend on the island? We’ve not been able to book the tour we wanted so looking to make a few plans as tempting as laying by the pool and drinking cocktails for 10 days is! The only thing I’ve organised so far is a private boat trip one afternoon to the Keri caves and Turtle Island

Sunshine2007 · 12/08/2021 17:45

@FizzyPink it was so hot when we were there that we didn’t do too much. We were a few minutes from the beach so we went there a lot and my teenagers did some water sports. We did a private boat trip to turtle island. The best day for my two teens was a day at the water park (Zante Water Village). We got there about 20 mins before it opened and we were the first there. All morning it stayed pretty quiet and my DDs made the most of the lack of queues. We had a great day. We went into Zakynthos Town one morning and had a wander round but it was about 40 degrees and you end up just heading to a cafe to get in the shade and have a cold drink! Hope you have a wonderful time. The locals were lovely and seemed very happy to see the tourists.

FizzyPink · 12/08/2021 18:26

Thanks @Sunshine2007 that’s super helpful. I’ll hold off on planning anything then and just see what we fancy doing when we’re there. Definitely up for some water sports or the water park.

Summersdreaming · 12/08/2021 20:51

Thanks for the insurance pointers- I booked with trailfinders - up to £5000pp if made to self isolate. Well worth £56 imo as that is my biggest worry.

magsbagsfags · 13/08/2021 05:32

Hello

Has anyone ordered day 2 return postal Covid tests that they could recommend?

Thanks!

brizzlewizzle · 13/08/2021 05:40

Have been recommended to use Expert Medicals - but haven't used them personally

GrealishHairband · 13/08/2021 08:45

I’ve just checked the Tui chronomics website but and they say they’ll dispatch tests for ore flight around 10 days before you go. I’ve not received ours yet and just checked the email and it says estimated dispatch 13th. We fly on the 17th?! And there’s this weekend in the way. Is it just me or does that seem like it’s cutting it fine? Do you get a notification of dispatch so I at least know it’s on its way today?

FizzyPink · 13/08/2021 10:08

We’re in the same position @GrealishHairband due to fly early Tuesday morning so going to the airport hotel Monday afternoon which doesn’t allow much time for them to arrive if they’re being posted today.
I know they are doing tests in our hotel so that’s my back up plan but I’m not sure why they wouldn’t just post them out with a few more days to spare.

GrealishHairband · 13/08/2021 10:27

I managed to find a number which takes you through to I Tui and they say they won’t escalate until 72 hours prior to flight so if not received tomorrow can call them back. If you need it @FizzyPink is 08000093833
