Long weekend hotel in Wales? Maybe Gower Peninsula?

Some very late halfterm planning here, ahem, but does anyone know of a really nice hotel probably in Wales near to seaside, hopefully with a pool, pleasant for small children but not full of creches etc? Or it could be somewhere else but not an absolutely enormous drive from London. Most grateful for any thoughts...

If you try to go to Centerparcs this late they want £1700 for three days, astonishing.

hello kp. we went to the gower when dd was 4 weeks old. it was a lot further than i thought... stayed in a very strange b&b i wouldn't reccommend. will shut up now i think. xxx

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 10:59

Og there was a lovely one I had saved a while back, hang on. You might have to look on laterooms for availability though since it's half term

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:00

Hurst House haven't stayed though

krabbiepatty · 16/10/2007 11:04

Oh thanks, both, Will check that out www; I think half term may force me into hoxtonchick's weird b & b or similar...

It wasn't that one I was thinking of, still looking in my favourites

krabbiepatty · 16/10/2007 11:05

Some very odd punctuation going down in that last post. Apologies to the squeamish

I mean my post, not yours, www. [too many commas there, hmmm?]

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:08

I'd look on Laterooms for availability first

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:09

lol

This isn't the one I was thinking of (determined to find it now tho it's not in my favourites), but this looks nice bit far maybe though

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:18

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:20

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:20

YAY! I found it, I think this looks fab, Harbour master hotel, second attempt

krabbiepatty · 16/10/2007 11:20

Thanks www, I'll have a look. WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO BOOK UP HALF TERM MANY WEEKS IN ADVANCE? Not me obviously, sigh.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:22

I booked for Oct half term in DECEMBER last year. But cancelled as we're on an economy drive so we can buy a house!

krabbiepatty · 16/10/2007 11:27

That must be how folk get to stay in lovely hotels www. We were looking for something last minute in August and DP found... a Ramada Inn in Norwich and, er, that was it. So we did some days out instead. Really you would think that would have taught us a lesson, but no here we are again. Perhaps I will book that lovely Harbour Master hotel for next year...
Sorry you had to cancel yours - where was it?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:38

lol at The Ramada in Norwich
We were going here but decided a) we should save the £1k instead (not cost of house but house + petrol + eating out + groceries etc) b) it's a loooong way - we're in home counties

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2007 11:39

Or go on Laterooms, you might get a fab bargain for this weekend or next. But you're more likely to get one in non beach type holiday locations tbh, i.e. we got a suite in the Great Eastern in The City for £117 but that's because business is slow at the weekend there. It goes up to £4-500 in the week.

Kewcumber · 16/10/2007 11:41

Fairy Hill Hotel used to be fab but may be expensive

Kewcumber · 16/10/2007 11:42

Fynnon House is in Dolgellau choclatequeen - thats miles and miles and miles from the Gower (and very inaccessible to London)!
