Where can I find an EXPERIENCED travel nanny to fly London - Sydney - London?????????????????

I'd rather not pay a recruitment agents fee, I've searched google, and still nothing......

I need an experience nanny who has the experience of entertaining my 2 year old son for the flight from London to Hong Kong (stay over night) then Hong Kong to Sydney - stay in Sydney for a month then back again. I'm a nervous wreck! I'll be on the flight too but can't stand the thought of my son not being happy or being able to run around.

I'll of course pay for the nanny's flight etc, does anyone know where I can find someone with experience without paying a recruitment fee?????

Thanks

Ok, then but it is not just lack of sympathy for a situation you clearly cant associate with, is it? That shouldnt give anybody the right to ridicule, in my opinion.

Oh for crying out loud. Highly strung? The thought of occupying my children for God knows how many hours inside a sealed container would make me a little jittery, and I am pretty relaxed on the whole.

She wasn't asking for sympathy. She was asking for information. She got a bit of a self-righteous kicking.

she was asking for advice - not a kick in the teeth or a comment on her parenting skills

Well I don;t really see how having 2 people will help there KM, but having 2 people can make it easier to manage a wheelchair/very strong child with no sense of danger and an inability to queue (unless pinned to the ground).

Perhaps it helps to imagine someone else's situation. I don't think there are many people who could handle my 3 on the street let alone a plne. If there are then I would hope they wouldn't judge me for not being able to do the same.

I've just remembered my employee who gave me the afternoon off to drink coffee 2 years ago was employed by Dustin Hoffman to help on the plane/holiday. I could ask her how she was recruited- I vaguely remeber it was through word of mouth.

gess · 25/09/2007 18:58

So what KM? Does it matter if the OP can't manage something you can. Why does she need to get slated for it?

WelshBoris · 25/09/2007 18:58

Bizarre thread, showing MN at its best and worst.

Very good points Gess

D'you know, I remember a thread back in March about aeroplanes which went bad as well. I think the OP got "challenged" as her DH apparently threatened to fucking kill some children in the seat behind. Anyone else recall it? I remember the poster's lighthearted tone was thoroughly misunderstood and she was subsequently roughed up by some MNetters. I believe she was pretty upset afterwards.
I am sure that poster would not want anyone else to feel that bad because people on an internet forum jump to conclusions.

She only mentions getting a nanny to 'entertain' her ds, not to help her. Why would her son not be happy? No children are allowed to run around a plane, are they ?

cocolepew · 25/09/2007 19:05

Ooops x-post.

minorityrules · 25/09/2007 19:07

entertaining a 2 year old in a seat in a box for 22 hours, not being able to run free IS ard work imo

Sometimes its hard when when you you are stuck in the house all day!

KM I understand about allergies, my brother was the only person I had ever known to have anaphalixis (more common now) to fish, nuts and dairy. We grew up tasting food for him, and checking ingredients and all knew how to dial 999 (before epipens) from when we could talk and knew the signs of him swelling and unable t breath (he is 50 now)

It isn't the same as dealing with a child with no or limited safety awareness or one that has no head control and 12 years old and wears nappies! It is a health need, not a disability

What ever happened to empathy?

TellusMater · 25/09/2007 19:11

Why do you have a problem with employing someone to help her entertain her son? Why is that so much worse than paying someone to lift a wheelchair?

I asked before why the outrage, and it was suggested that people weren't disagreeing on principle. But I think that now it is clear that some are. And I don't get it.

gess · 25/09/2007 19:13

I'm still trying to understand the great sin in employing someone to entertain a child. Bloody hell I know ds3 would get bored staring at me for 24 hours. With someone else to take turns he'd be far easier. Am totally failing to understand the problem.
