First world problems but I am never organised enough to book too far in advance (big dreams, shallow pockets here!)

But for those who are able to live the dream, what have you got in store for 2020 - long haul and short haul?

This year I'm keen on Iceland, possibly Thailand (never been), Berlin or Vienna, Efterling and a decent European summer holiday with DC.

I love the ritual of booking everything early at the start of the year and planning! We have one child and it makes it easier to travel for us...
So far - cheap hotel weekend with kids and friends in Great Yarmouth, family weekend in big house in Norfolk, road trip/camping to South of France and ski for Christmas in Austria 😊

Absolutely love weekend breaks in Berlin...now I’m thinking!!

Iceland is very expensive, we went just before christmas, it wasn't very festive
We stayed here

Cologne for the Christmas market

I've just booked Iceland in April, I recommend a self-catering apartment. You can book all the tours and trips individually.

This thread got me inspired: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/shorthaul/3728095-iceland-in-december-tips-please

India I would go back to as it was so very different (and colourfully chaotic).

Berlin is brilliant, lots of history and very cool German design!

I love this time of year booking everything up!
My daughter is in reception and I have just started term time hours, so first experience of being confined to school holidays.
We have - Feb half term - efteling
May half term - me - macchu picchu, 4 year old dd Spain with my sister
We have all of August free so planning that now - hopefully interrailing eastern europe
Easter - probably a few days in UK

Hope to get on with planning October half term and a week away from 26 December too..

caperplips · 08/01/2020 15:27

We're planning short trips to Florence in March (with dc) and Venice in May (just me and dh) and longer trip to Tallinn in June, we're taking the ferry to Helsinki on that trip.

Mulling over going away for Christmas - if budget allows I'd love to go back to New York

There will also be a couple of work trips for me along the way

Uzbekistan in April. The Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica in November. Big holiday that one!!!

lovelyupnorth · 08/01/2020 21:49

Ghana in three weeks can’t wait.

ShanghaiDiva · 09/01/2020 05:12

Western Australia at the end of this month and a week in Cambodia in April. Nothing else planned as we are moving in the summer. Would love a city break in November or December to recover from the horror that is an overseas move (air shipment, sea shipment, new school for dd and a massive delivery of stuff that has been in store for 12 years - probably followed by a massive trip to Oxfam et al)

I've so far booked a weekend in Lisbon and a week in Sorrento at Easter. I went to Vienna last year and found it a bit dull. Gorgeous buildings but not much atmosphere. I much preferred Munich and Budapest on the same trip.

RachelTension · 10/01/2020 00:42

Thinking about Georgia (country not the state) for a long weekend, Cyprus to see family, then either Ethiopia or possibly Uganda? Got friends in Uganda and never been to Africa before so want to go!

I love all the planning and booking Smile

okiedokieme · 10/01/2020 00:44

Ok it's a couple of long haul, a cruise and a U.K. break ... lucky girl this year, compensation for getting divorced is meeting someone new!

PandancerandRabbitoplh · 10/01/2020 18:04

River Kwai in Thailand then Malaysian Borneo for wildlife and then Perhentians Island for more wildlife and scuba / snorkelling in school summer holidays.

missyB1 · 10/01/2020 18:10

Just booked a lovely little hotel on the beach in Skopelos for July. It’s one of the few Greek islands that we haven’t been to can’t wait!

LittleSweet · 10/01/2020 18:25

New Zealand. We're thinking of emigrating. We are visiting family there too. Very exciting.

jeremypaxo · 10/01/2020 18:29

I absolutely loved Iceland. My favourite holiday ever.

This year we're going to the Lake District for easter, the Austrian Alps in the summer and then Cape Town for Christmas! Just booked the flights Grin I am so excited. I also have a weekend in Ibiza planned and we're going to Dubrovnik for a wedding. Not a bad year travel-wise! It's been two years since we've had a holiday though for various reasons so we're making up for lost time.

helpfulperson · 10/01/2020 18:34

Week camping in the swiss alps. Can't wait.

Oellph · 11/01/2020 12:45

OMG, genuine question but how do you all afford this? My wife and I are on relatively good wages but these plans most of you have feel very expensive!

I'm irked at the notion that flights almost triple in prices during school holidays :(

Dazedandconfused10 · 11/01/2020 12:47

No plans. I don't have the guts to holiday alone so I suspect it won't happen.

youknowwhenyouknowyouknow · 11/01/2020 12:55

Skiing tomorrow😀😀(first time for boys 10+8) Costa Rica feb half term, lakes at Easter, Switzerland June , Bali and Singapore for summer hols and Scotland in October half term. I'm a bit obsessed with holidays at the mo, once the boys get into exam territory we'll prob have one a year. I feel you don't know what's round the corner so need to make memories now 😂

Flyingarcher · 11/01/2020 16:44

@Dazedandconfused10 I know what you mean but I went to Guernsey last year so UK but not UK. Easy flight, bus service is amazing and loads of good hotels. I did find as a lone female that eating out in the evening was ok but I got ignored quite a bit by some waiting staff but comparitively minor irk.

I had a blast. It was so much fun just doing what I wanted to do. Do it! If I can, you can. I might try Llibjulana ( sp?) next, or Jersey or poss do Guernsey again but stay over a night at Sark ( fab and slightly odd place). Feel free to pm me about Guernsey ideas.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/01/2020 16:47

Cape Town at the end of this month, and DS has just talked me into booking Florida for the end of November when his contract finishes. We will probably get a week in Devon in between.

Spied · 11/01/2020 16:50

I'm looking at Canary Islands for myself, dp and DC in the school holidays.
Maybe a UK trip to Harry Potter London at Easter.

lanbro · 11/01/2020 16:53

I'm going to Brunei in may, I have a friend posted out there so travelling alone but staying with her, really looking forward to it!

iwonttaketheeasyroad · 11/01/2020 16:53

Just booked Sorrento in Italy in August! Really excited it will be a mixture of exploring and lying by the pool. Perfect

boredboredboredboredbored · 11/01/2020 16:57

Sri Lanka in 4 weeks for our honeymoon. That's it then though, we're totally spent out with the wedding. I'm looking forward to my bank account having a breather!
