Arizona for 5 nights what would you do?

Any recommendations for February? Like hiking, nice food, quirky towns....
BillHadersNewWife · 13/11/2019 07:55
Ghost towns! Arizona has a few from what I can see. I'd love that.

Sedona - close to Phoenix, quirky, beautiful, great hiking around Oak Creek Canyon
Flagstaff - lovely college town, lots of lovely cafes and restaurants, close to places like Meteor Crater, Sunset Crater etc
Obvs Grand Canyon lovely but you wouldn’t scratch the surface
Canyon De Chelly is beautiful but smaller than the GC and has great hiking

Antelope Canyon - it's the orange sandstone slot canyon that gets used on so many screen savers and indents. It's a-maz-ing and you have to go there with Navajo people, which brings some other insights.
Second Flagstaff, cool and quirky, plus there's a perfectly preserved meteor crater just outside of you're in to that sort of thing.

We’re flying in and out of L.A.. I assume flying from LA to Phoenix would be the way to go?
BringBackDoves · 13/11/2019 23:58
Yeah I think so. You can drive it but you’d spend hours doing so and you may as well drive and then hire a car from Phoenix airport.
BubblesBuddy · 14/11/2019 00:22
Check distances! As I said on your other thread (Arizona was one of my suggestions) try Phoenix then Tombstone. Sedona is slightly odd. Good rock formations. Great jeep trips. Very much an weekend jaunt from Phoenix so good for R&R.
CatUnderTheStairs · 14/11/2019 06:17
@BubblesBuddy yes thank you your idea was so good I thought I’d better start a bew reread that was more specific. Thank you!
CatUnderTheStairs · 14/11/2019 09:41
ooh just looked up Sedona, that looks perfect, though the panpipes might get irritating....
CatUnderTheStairs · 14/11/2019 21:43
Anyone got a suggestion for a 5 day round trip?
I was thinking up to Sedona for a couple of nights, up to antelope canyon then back along 260 through Pine to Phoenix....
lovelyupnorth · 15/11/2019 08:08
Agree with Sedona.
Had a couple of weeks in Pheonix the other year staying with family.
It was bloody cold in January.
Thanksgiving2019 · 16/11/2019 07:20
Check the weather too - some of the places are at high altitude and may have a lot of snow.
CatUnderTheStairs · 16/11/2019 09:03
Is Prescott good for hiking....? I’ve got no real feel for what the weather will be like...feet deep in snow or pleasant?
CatUnderTheStairs · 17/01/2020 09:45
bump as this is coming up soon and while I've booked 3 nights in Sedona I haven't got the first 2 nights sorted. Something a bit adventurous might be good....
BubblesBuddy · 17/01/2020 18:23
Visit Arizona has winter hiking suggestions. Flagstaff might be a good base.
lovelyupnorth · 17/01/2020 19:33
I’ll ask my brother he lives in Phoenix. We had a good couple of weeks last time we went.
lovelyupnorth · 17/01/2020 19:34
When your in Sedona make sure you go up near the airport there is an awesome all round view.
CatUnderTheStairs · 17/01/2020 21:34
We’re not sure whether to spend a couple of days in Phoenix... would love to go to antelope canyon but seems a lot of driving...
BubblesBuddy · 18/01/2020 23:18
Everywhere is a lot of driving! It’s a big state. I would pin point what you like most within the radius you wish to drive. 5 days isn’t long so driving for a long time doesn’t seem sensible. You have quite a long time in Sedona which isn’t far from Phoenix. Look at somewhere else around 100 miles away. The web site I recommended has loads of ideas. See what floats your boat that you can actually get to within reason.

Also look at Culture Trip for Phoenix and Scottsdale. You might find something you like.
