Norfolk for me, relatively easy to get to, microclimate and lovely food and beaches.

Corfu - because we loved it
South of France - because the lorry drivers were on strike and kept blocking the roads so we didn't get to see as much as we wanted
Lanzarote - had an opportunity for a cheap holiday
Majorca - can't remember why
Madeira - because we loved it
Sark - because we loved it
Lake Garda - because we loved it

UK: Cornwall. Beautiful scenery, the beaches are wonderful and many happy childhood memories there. Sweet shop in Truro for sugar mice!
Abroad: Turkey. Relaxed atmosphere in places like Bodrum, Fethiye and Olu Deniz. City life and plenty of history in what was Constantinople (Istanbul). I also love Turkish cuisine so the food is a winner. Not keen on alot of the AI resorts though. Aim to go every year.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 17/08/2019 23:37

Oh and being a fan of the series Ertugrul, there is a museum filled with all the history in Istanbul(I think?) Which I haven't been to but will definetly visit on the next trip!!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2019 23:37

Mull - fantastic wildlife.

Lots of other places but that's the one which sprang to mind first.

tinytemper66 · 17/08/2019 23:51

Sorrento and Dubrovnik because of their amazing views and ambience

ZenNudist · 17/08/2019 23:52

Loads of places!

Costa prata Portugal
Sagres and around Portugal
Lisbon Portugal

Rome, Florence, venice, lake garda, lake como bologna, amalfi coast tuscany all in Italy.

Plus Croatia definitely going back to istria and split.

Brussels
Prague
Vienna
San Francisco
New york
Paris
It would be easier to name places im not going back to (magaluf, olu deniz)

Never get to see all i want. I wont necessarily go back to exactly the same place but like to see more of an area.

In the UK I love the lake district, its an hour and a half from here so i go a few times a year. Like to walk. Its beautiful. Fave places to stay are Grasmere Keswick and enjoyed ambleside surprisingly (good restaurants, nice park, good walking).

Recently went to Llandudno (90min drive) and will go back.

Went to London for pleasure not work and forgot how fun it could be.

York earlier this year made me realise that its only an hour away and so much to do.

Whitby, despite being schlep is a fab place and I plan to take the kids.

Looking forward to discovering more of the UK. I like to try new places but I like to get to know other places better.

Im rarely "done" with a place. Some im not bothered about returning but would never say never.

Great Yarmouth because it has the nicest British beaches I’ve seen and the people are lovely.
Spain and Cyprus because they have the beaches, nice weather and nice food.

BillyAndTheSillies · 18/08/2019 00:07

We go to Cyprus to visit family almost every year and can imagine we will continue to go back.

South of France, I love the food, the views and the winding roads.

Capri. If I went for the day I'd hate it. The real magic is at night when the day trippers leave and everything is calm and glam.

The Philippines. Definitely need to see more, we went on honeymoon but stayed in Cebu. Would love to visit Palawan and Boracay.

Would like to go back to Singapore for longer and also would love to go back to Havana and take our DC when they're older.

I wouldn't go back to Turkey or Agadir, I'd like to visit more of Morocco though, just skip Agadir.

Not that bothered to return to Australia.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 18/08/2019 08:30

Home: Isle of Wight. Been going for years and love the wide sandy beaches.

I was never going to be that person that goes to the same place every year. I try and go somewhere new too but every year do;

Barcelona. My bolt hole for my January birthday. Go most years because flights are some of the cheapest in Europe and it’s usually 15/16 degrees.

South of France. Super easy to do, lovely sun. Also cheap flights.

JoJoSM2 · 18/08/2019 08:42

The Maldives as it's paradise on earth.

dementedma · 18/08/2019 08:47

Orkney - just mind blowing
Normandy- so lush and beautiful
Krakow- fascinating to explore

Swisskit · 18/08/2019 08:55

Alghero in Sardinia.

Lovely old walled town, right on the beach. Cheap flights and airport only about 5 miles away.

ShippingNews · 18/08/2019 08:56

Egypt. If you love history and want to have your mind blown away, it's just the best. I love it.

MrsSpenserGregson · 18/08/2019 08:59

West coast of Portugal (already mentioned upthread so it must be good Grin)

UK: North Norfolk, Channel Isles, Isle of Wight, Cornwall (out of season), Jurassic Coast

Miami & Florida Keys

Chicago

Sporades Islands in Greece (Skiathos, Skopelos etc - the sea, and underwater life, is breathtaking)

TapasForTwo · 18/08/2019 09:19

"Egypt. If you love history and want to have your mind blown away,"

With the current situation in Egypt I'm not sure about the phraseology you have used here. Or was it intentional?

user159 · 18/08/2019 09:27

I live in one of the places for the uk mentioned a few times above.. so much to do and a fabulous place to raise a child!
For me at home would be east coast of Scotland, just stunning
Abroad: we go sailing around the Greek islands regularly but I could happily do this every single year

Pembrokeshire - the beaches are so beautiful - a bit like Cornwall but without the massive hordes of tourists.

New Zealand - went with dh for 3 weeks years ago and would love to go with the dc but can't afford it atm.

The Ile de Ré - just gorgeous. Lots of bird life, few cars, beautiful little harbour towns. Very chic in an understated way.

TapasForTwo · 18/08/2019 10:44

OH is from Northumberland so we visit regularly. We are here now, and had a fabulous afternoon yesterday going to a country show then off to an NT property with beautiful gardens for tea and cakes to look around them.

A particular favourite place in the UK for me is Shropshire. So much to see and do.

Babdoc · 18/08/2019 11:08

TapasForTwo lol at your Egypt comment! I’d love to do a tour of Christian sites in Israel, but the DDs refuse to come through fear of suicide bombers.
To be fair, DD2 got caught up in the terrorist attack in Paris, and was in lockdown in her hotel, so it colours her views on holiday destinations.
Places I loved and would return to:
Mainau, (the island of flowers in Lake Constance),
the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania
The Oberammergau Passion Play
The opera at Verona in the amphitheatre
Im Weissen Rossl hotel in St Wolfgang- to swim in their pool which floats on chains actually IN the Wolfgangsee, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Istanbul, to eat fresh fish under the horse chestnut trees, see Hagia Sofia again, cruise the Bosporus and absorb the history.
Marrakech, for the sensory overload and culture shock of the souks, gardens, mosques and the amazing Djema el Fnaa Square.
Prague for the glorious architecture
Krakow for the deeply moving visit to Auschwitz, and the lovely salt mines with their underground cathedral.
The Greek islands for history, sun, welcoming people and sheer relaxation.
Copenhagen, my favourite Scandi city
St Petersburg - because no visit is long enough to see all the amazing art in the Hermitage.
Actually, the only holiday I hated and would never go back to was Tunisia.
Continual hassle to buy things, or being hit on by men, grim food, too hot to enjoy sightseeing. The mosaics in the Bardo were good, but not worth the rest of the trip.

TapasForTwo · 18/08/2019 14:05

We clearly like the same things from a holiday Babdoc. I have been to some of the places on your list. I'm with you on Tunisia as well.

DD went interrailing this summer and said that Prague was completely spoiled by drunken mainly British stag parties.

gowgow · 18/08/2019 16:20

China. A fascinating country, but the tour we did with Wendy Wu was not good.

I'd like to go back & re-visit some of the places, & also pick my own food from a menu, not just eat the stuff that the guide thought we should have.

gowgow · 18/08/2019 16:27

I'd love to re-visit Egypt, however the trip we made was fantastic & I'd probably be disappointed.
We had a guide to ourselves in Cairo - not planned, but there weren't many tourists around.
The Nile cruise was also great - just 6 English people to one guide.

Babdoc · 18/08/2019 16:40

Sad to hear about stag parties spoiling Prague, Tapas. I wonder if that’s mainly at weekends? I’ve been twice, most recently about 15 years ago, and didn’t encounter them. One of my colleagues is a Czech surgeon, and he remembers standing in the town square in Prague at New Year, back in the Communist days, with snow falling in the dark, and nobody there except two very obvious secret policemen eyeing him from the corner! He said it would have been magical if they hadn’t rather spoiled the moment. I don’t imagine the square is ever that empty now!
