We want to go away this year for Christmas, does anyone have any suggestion where we could that will be hot still at this time of year, don't want to travel to far so maybe 6 hours max flight.
We have looked at Cape Verde which will be hot but not sure if it will be to boring as not a lot there.
Thank you

Come to South Australia. :) It's HOT and Christmas is surprisingly beautiful here. Adelaide is MUCH cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne but there's a lot her. Heritage towns and villages, amazing wineries, art and theatre. The city has some amazing hotels and air b&bs...our coastline is the most beautiful you'll ever see.

DaffyDuck473 · 08/08/2019 23:59

Thank you, I wish we could but the flight is to long just for 7 nights, Australia is on our list but would like to go for 2 weeks to make it worth it. Smile

Dubai or similar Gulf state destination. Florida. Anywhere in Africa. Few short haul destinations will be hot at Christmas. Wrong time of year - you need to go further! 6 hours to Dubai is about the minimum.

Morocco or south of spain? Both hot during the day and cooler at night

exLtEveDallas · 09/08/2019 06:33

We did Egypt (Hurghada) at Xmas a couple of years ago. Was warm enough in the daytime to sunbathe & swim in the sea. The hotels all have at least one pool that is heated (ours had 3) and we even did the Waterpark (although the pools were colder there).

The cooler temp meant that our visit to Luxor was better than the one we did in the summer and we had a shopping day at the Marina/Sheraton Street that was much more pleasant.

It was in the mid 20s during the day and probably around 15 in the evening. We took fleeces with us and still managed to sit outside most nights.

The csnaries

ButDoYouAvocado · 09/08/2019 07:05

I find the canaries a bit 'meh' at Christmas. Not as warm as you'd expect and pools like ice. Egypt was great as was Cape Verde.

Cupcakegirl13 · 09/08/2019 07:34

Cape Verde

zafferana · 09/08/2019 09:29

There's not a lot that's 'hot' at Christmas within a 6-hour flight. South of Spain, Canaries, Morocco - all warm, but not hot. I think you'll have to go to Dubai or Oman or somewhere like that. If you're prepared to fly a little further then the Caribbean is hot, but it's more like a 9-hour flight.

edgeofheaven · 09/08/2019 09:32

Accra Ghana if you want to be adventurous but it’s a bit more than 6 hours. They have beaches and some really nice new hotels like the Moevenpick.

howdyalikemenow · 09/08/2019 10:45

I spent Christmas in Malta once. It was 21 degrees on Christmas Day!

userxx · 09/08/2019 13:20

Im going to the Canaries. Cant wait.

DaffyDuck473 · 09/08/2019 16:02

Thank you for all the suggestion I will look into them.
We've done Egypt a few years ago, don't know how safe it is now.

Looks like we might have to look at going on a longer flight and maybe for 10 days, or stick with ape verde.

I went to Cape Verde about 7 yaers ago and there wasnt much to do apart from laze around the hotel complex. It might be totally different now.

mateysmum · 09/08/2019 16:51

Weather in Dubai is perfect at Christmas and there is quite a festive atmosphere. Turkey and all the trimmings are available - minus anything pork or containing alcohol - but plenty of booze available to drink!

exLtEveDallas · 09/08/2019 18:48

@DaffyDuck473 we've just got back from Hurghada. Felt totally safe the whole time we were there. Went out and about as well as the hotel complex and didn't have any issues or hassles. The airport security is top notch - more strict than the uk! When we went at Xmas it was the same.

SJane48S · 10/08/2019 08:59

How about The Gambia? I've not been but the flight time is 6 hours and average day temperatures are apparently 31%. Looks reasonably safe on the Foreign Office site (more so than Egypt - the FO say there is an increased risk of an attack in Egypt on religious festival dates including Christmas) & would more interesting than Cape Verde I suspect unless you particularly want to sit in a hotel for 7 days ?! I've lived in Dubai and Christmas was always a bit 'meh' but hotels do put in the effort. I'm not a fan of Dubai at all - we used to spend Christmas in Fujairah which is much quieter and has mountains and beaches. Oman is great, nicer than the UAE & do-able in a week. If you want pool weather, Morocco & Southern Spain are going to be on the cool side (17-19 degrees)

Perunatop · 10/08/2019 09:06

Goa is lovely, and only a slightly longer flight than you wanted.

PestoCaffeinisto · 10/08/2019 09:09

Caribbean will be perfect 👌

SJane48S · 10/08/2019 10:35

Apologies for the smartarserie Perunatop but a flight to Goa is 11 hours minimum direct with many airlines doing stopovers on this route. Goa would be lovely though - as would the Caribbean!

superram · 10/08/2019 10:51

The Gambia is a horrible place. I feel sorry for those who live in poverty there’re but armed guards on hotels are not for me.

KittyCrackers · 10/08/2019 10:57

Hi OP! We’ve literally (like, last Wednesday) come back from Cape Verde and it was gorgeous. We stayed at the brand new Riu Palace Boa Vista and were there for two weeks - the kids were not bored and neither were we! We would do one busy day, then one chilled pool/beach day and it was perfect. We all did loads of scuba diving which was wonderful and we did a number of excursions including sand boarding in the desert, a trip to a deserted 18km long paradise of a beach, and a nighttime safari to see loggerhead turtles laying their eggs on the beach under a million stars... it was one of the best holidays I’ve ever had and I’d highly recommend it.

SJane48S · 10/08/2019 11:10

Ok Superram - when did you go and where did you stay out of interest? I’ve not been - just googled and I understand that some hotels do have armed guards to keep out bumsters (locals who try to flog things to tourists)

LiliesAndChocolate · 11/08/2019 03:37

Honestly, I would add some more hours and fly to the Maldives.
If you have a 6 hours flight your day is pretty much wasted anyway so take a night flight to Male and haver the most beautiful Christmas ever.
UK-Maldives should be around 10 hours and then of course the transfer to the resort or nearby island
