Texts from passport office

Evening all,
DD (17) has sent off for her passport..its a child to adult renewal.
Sent if off last Tues via check and send - had to do the paper form as she needed to update her photo and get it countersigned as she changed so much.
On Friday (26th) she got a text saying " Unless we need more info from you, your new passport should be with you by 16/08"
Then today she got 2 texts saying "You will receive your new passport in the next few days. Documents will be sent separately" then a couple of hours later another saying " When you receive your new passport please sign it with a black ball point pen". It also contained a link on guidance notes for signing it.
Has anyone else recently applied and received these texts? And if so how long after receiving the last text did your passport arrive?
Did it come via Royal Mail or courier?
Lastly has anyone else had to sign their passports?I assumed the signatures were digitally transferred onto them. The only thing I can really find online about this is people saying you've to be really careful when signing as you cannot mark below the line provided as it can cause issues at airports etc.
TIA x

Ds did all that a couple of weeks ago and got passport the day after he got the texts. They're all very efficient.

Herefortheduration · 02/08/2019 21:42

Just sign as normal, I've signed every passport I've had.

Passport was just put through the letter box

BeeyatchPlease · 02/08/2019 21:43

Yes, I got these texts when applying for DS' first passport last month.
The passport arrived about a week later and it was courier delivered but posted through the door so I didn't need to sign for it.
No idea about signing it as DS is only 18 months so no signature required obviously.

newmomof1 · 02/08/2019 21:43

Mine came 2 days after the tests.
I've never had to sign my passport as surely that's the easiest way to commit fraud, ever!

Mine is digitally printed.

arewethereyetmum78 · 02/08/2019 21:44

I got passports within a day or 2 of receiving the texts. Supporting documents arrived a couple of days later. All delivered with regular mail

dementedpixie · 02/08/2019 21:48

New passports are signed when you get them now. We did 3 renewals this year. They come within a couple of days after the texts.

P.s. she could have still done it online even if countersignature is required

dementedpixie · 02/08/2019 21:52

P.s. a courier brought ours and they also sent us a text to say delivery would be within 2 days. DX Delivery posted them through the door

dementedpixie · 02/08/2019 21:53

Example of text sent by courier:

Your delivery from HM Passport Office is due by tomorrow. We'll try to post it through your door. Get more information at www.dxdelivery.com/HMPO Ref ###########

Mine only took 5 days without check and send, they are pretty efficient if you have all your paperwork in order though with Brexit looming I would suggest people renew in loads of time!

UrsulaPandress · 02/08/2019 21:56

Sign on the line.

Not under the line

Lanny81 · 02/08/2019 21:59

Thanks for all the info guys!
Im actually quite impressed at the turn around, especially at this time of year.

dementedpixie · 02/08/2019 22:09

There's a huge space to sign in btw

Lanny81 · 02/08/2019 22:12

Oh thats good then Smile
I'll be watching her like a hawk though just incase.
Glad they are super efficient these days as she needs her passport number so the people shes going on holiday with can change the name on the flight tickets (shes taken someone else place)

Just been to Greece with 15yr old DSS at the airport we were told DSS needed to sign his passport before we got to our destination, didn't even realise

AnyFucker · 02/08/2019 22:18

I renewed my passport recently and got ot back in 6 days (actually 4 working days)

The day after I got my "sign your passport" text/email it arrived by Royal Mail

Groovee · 02/08/2019 22:18

Got these last week.

bernietaupinspen · 02/08/2019 22:19

Definitely sign it. DD's passport was refused as ID when she tried to open a student bank account last year, because she hasn't signed it. Obviously they would not let her sign it there and then. I was just grateful we were not travelling!

bernietaupinspen · 02/08/2019 22:19

Hadn't

Lanny81 · 02/08/2019 22:28

Groovee have you received passport yet?

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 02/08/2019 22:32

Last time we got new ones (which I think was in the last couple of years) I had a text saying you'll receive it in 2 days, and it came that afternoon.

Lanny81 · 02/08/2019 22:47

@dementedpixie Wish she had done it online now, would have saved myself £20! Cost me £95 (including check and send)Sad

@Jayaywhynot are there 2 pages in passport now with photos on? One laminated and one printed (the one you have to sign?)

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 02/08/2019 22:57

Yes one page is laminated and the opposite page has the strange picture with the signature line

Lanny81 · 02/08/2019 23:13

Everything has changed loads since I got mine (which also needs renewing...) One photo (i look like an alienGrin) on one page and digital signature
