City break with beach

Rivkka · 19/07/2019 20:44

Apart from Barcelona, can anyone recommend a nice city break ideally with a nearby beach?

We loved Lisbon but fancy somewhere different.

It's for September so sun would be great too.

Thanks

Nice is lovely and plenty of places to explore around- cheap public transport too.

Marseille...was there for a short trip couple of years ago......going back this year for longer....food/culture/sea nightlife....

Frenchfancy · 19/07/2019 21:49

Malaga without a doubt. Much nicer than Barcelona.

starzig · 19/07/2019 21:51

Valencia?

PaquitaSalas · 19/07/2019 21:58

Valencia or Malaga.

La Coruña in Galicia.

Rivkka · 19/07/2019 22:34

Thanks I'll have a look at these.

If it’s for a week, then Dubai.

SavageBeauty73 · 20/07/2019 05:54

Palma.

MinnieMountain · 20/07/2019 07:27

Another vote for Malaga.

NoNameNoGame · 20/07/2019 07:41

Dubai for sure! Will be hot in Sep.

ovenchips · 20/07/2019 08:27

Palma, Valencia, Alicante?

Aragog · 20/07/2019 09:15

Been to both Valencia and Malaga this year and enjoyed both. Both are walking distance between city and beach.

CrepuscularCritter · 20/07/2019 09:55

Cadiz, Cagliari, La Rochelle, Toulon?

Rivkka · 20/07/2019 10:35

I'm liking the look of Valencia and Malaga. Do they have the same issue with pickpockets as Barcelona? Was totally put off there last time we went as it was just relentless. Everyone we met had had things stolen.

We can't go to Dubai as DH works there a lot and wants somewhere different.

Dubrovnik
Porto
Palma

VioletLeaf · 20/07/2019 10:43

Dubrovnik. But I wouldn't stay actually in Dubrovnik but in one of the surrounding areas.. Cavtat, Milni , Zaton. Best of both worlds. Quiet when you want and the mania of Dubrovnik when you want (Dubrovnik itself is imo too crazy to spend a lot of time in).

LadyGAgain · 20/07/2019 11:28

Venice?

Aragog · 20/07/2019 15:50

We didn't have any issues in either Malaga it Valencia. Both were fairly busy but never felt at risk.

AlpenCrazy · 20/07/2019 15:58

Dubrovnik (stay in Lapad area & get bus to old town, or Cavtat further out and 40 min boat ride)
Valencia

But generally city beaches aren't all that.

MinnieMountain · 20/07/2019 18:05

I've never felt at risk of pickpockets in Malaga. Didn't like Barcelona.

MinnieMountain · 20/07/2019 18:06

If you like sherry, there's a great sherry bar near the market.

Rivkka · 20/07/2019 18:46

Thanks for all the suggestions.

If city beaches aren't good maybe I should look for a hotel with a good pool instead. That would widen the net too.

Thanks again.

Palma? You could combine a few days in palma with rest of week in a nice beach resort with pool.

zafferana · 22/07/2019 09:17

I don't think anywhere is as bad as Barcelona for pickpockets (apart from maybe Paris!).

We had a lovely break in Valencia with our kids - plenty to do, lovely food, not overly touristy or full of English people, the City of Arts and Sciences is fabulous, nice old city, we ate paella in a restaurant down by the beach and it was lovely!
