Anyone else been to Blackgang Chine (IoW)? Mad, isn't it?

Bloody hell.
Don't know what was weirdest. The Crooked House or the Chimney Pots Walk or all those weird animatronics.... Anyone else been?

Took ds when he was 3.

He was bloody terrified

If we talk about the IOW he ALWAYS says "we don't have to go to blackgang chine, do we?"

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 13:57

Ooooooooh

I went twice as a child and will NEVER forget it, especially the Crooked House (where another child threatened our group with a knife making it even more sinister and bizarre)

Ooh must take ds

southeastastra · 30/07/2007 14:00

got a great picture of my son when he was a baby coming out of the big face.

has much of it fallen into the sea yet?

HonoriaGlossop · 30/07/2007 14:03

Franny are you mad? Must take DS? Is he due his yearly bout of sheer terror then?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:05

Crooked House was a bit rude, I thought - the woman in the bath wrapped in a towel. Franny, I can just imagine being threatened in the Crooked House. Wow.

I thought the nursery rhyme characters were freaky and hideous. The haunted mansion thing was a bit much, too.

DD loved walking between the legs of the giant at the entrance, but I don't remember a big face anywhere - perhaps that's in the sea. Apparently they have to move things from time to time, and there were a lot of paths which seemed to stop dead at the cliffedge - the map didn't really work.

Yes I think it could be extremely funny

oh come on I bet it was a hoot when you went

"oh look ds a huge plastic dinosaur" "waaaaaaah" "oh look ds a giant mouth" "waaaaaaaaaah"

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 14:07

was the big face not the mouth of hell or something? Like just a giant mouth to walk through?

Hmm
Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:08

Oh I remember now - is it called the Mouth of Hell or something? Got lost trying to get there because it was at the edge of the cliff and dd kept asking to go back to the innocuous toddler play area.

x-posted. Must see if they have a website.

scroll down a bit for hell's mouth aw that would be sad if it's gone

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 14:09

yes I think it was

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2007 14:10

oh aaaaargh there it is

with the tiny little pipe to go through aargh claustrophobia ahoy

HonoriaGlossop · 30/07/2007 14:11

err, I hesitate to admit that the first thing that frightened ds was the Humpty Dumpty.

Bringing up a wimp, I am

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:12

Here.
They talk about 'themed areas to stimulate children's imagination'

Anyone remember the Pet Shop? How odd was that? Imaginary animals with big teeth singing songs....

OP posts:
HonoriaGlossop · 30/07/2007 14:12

It could only happen on the Isle of Wight

southeastastra · 30/07/2007 14:14

did you go to the brading wax museum? with the organ playing skeleton

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:14

I thought Humpty Dumpty was scary.

Even the hall of mirrors somehow managed to be even freakier than such things usually are - there was one that made me look like a four-breasted midget carrying a giant monster baby.

HonoriaGlossop · 30/07/2007 14:14

must take ds. He hasn't had nightmares for a good while

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:15

Is that on the IoW too SEA?
It sounds good.

OrmIrian · 30/07/2007 14:16

Oh. I thought Blackgang chine was just dinosaurs. I thought it would be ideal this summer for DS#2 who loves dinos...

Perhaps not...

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:18

Oh, you could steer him away from terrifying nursery rhyme characters, OrmIrian. There's plenty of big climbing equipment type stuff too.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 30/07/2007 14:21

yes it's a really old wax museum. it's very freaky

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/07/2007 14:58

Maybe we'll go to scary wax place next time then.
We were staying with friends - behaved well enough so might get invited back again in a year or two!
