Seychelles

Had a shitty year so we're thinking of treating ourselves to two weeks in the Seychelles in July.

Has anyone been? What's the weather like and where should we stay/visit? What are the best beaches?

We're considering doing a multi-stop staying on 2-3 islands. We'd be wanting 5* accommodation but want to be able to experience freedom on the islands and not feel like we're holed up in a resort!

Any help would be appreciated 😊

We've been to Mahe and Praslin , but in September....weather was fabulous- only a couple of short downpours in the afternoon , which was actually quite refreshing!
As the islands are so close to Equator the weather is fairly consistent throughout the year
We stayed at Constance Lemuria on Praslin which was idyllic

  • fabulous location and 5* accommodation and food...very short flight from Mahe to Praslin which was spectacular in a tiny plane
We had a couple of truly memorable meals...a picnic on one of the best beaches in the world ( which is within the grounds of the hotel) and 'dinner in the rocks' for our 30th wedding anniversary Stayed at Constance Ephelia on Mahe...bigger hotel but spread out over beautiful grounds with loads of activities and a spa and 2 wonderful beaches www.constancehotels.com/en/hotels-resorts/seychelles/ephelia/ Would gladly return to either! We booked with Trailfinders who had very competitive rates....

Oh should also mention we hired a car on Praslin....very easy to get around as they drive on the left and the speed limit is only 50kph!...some spectacular scenery , especially the tropical rain forests and amazing rock formations
We ate out a couple of times at beachside restaurants ...seafood is incredible
On Mahe we had a private driver for the day and explored the island
We flew Emirates from Manchester , but BA fly directly from Heathrow I think

We are also looking at Seychelles for two weeks over Christmas for six of us.. After what is going to be a very difficult year due to an illness we are in the thick off.
We have four dds aged 17-23 so all adults and looking for quiet, luxury, but with some water sports, preferably sailing dinghies and maybe yoga and a spa.
I am thinking Seychelles or Mauritius... Any other ideas gratefully received, budget around 15k

calpop · 23/04/2019 10:53

ive also been to Lemuria on Praslin, though 15 years ago, and it was stunning. I'd love to go back. Sadly I've never managed to get a trip down below 15K for 5 of us so please do let me know if you do! On Praslin we stayed at the Banyan Tree which was lovely, though a little too quiet for me.

We've been to Mauritius more recently (its a bit cheaper to get to) and stayed at the Lux resorts, which I can thoroughly recommend.

calpop · 23/04/2019 10:54

Mahe I mean for the Banyan Tree

Hollowvictory · 23/04/2019 12:35

Mauritius is much much cheaper than the Seychelles

DreamingofSunshine · 27/04/2019 13:15

Seychelles is stunning! We did cheaper accommodation but there's amazing resort islands you can go to. We went for 12 days to Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. On Mahe the Four Seasons was incredible and there's a lovely posh resort on La Digue but I can't remember the name.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 27/04/2019 17:18

We’ve just booked for August and I can’t wait so fab to hear all the positive feedback here Smile

SoYouBetterRun · 27/04/2019 17:23

We're going to Constance Ephelia end of July. Can't wait!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 27/04/2019 17:45

We’re at Constance Ephelia in August soyoybetterrunSmile

Stopyourhavering64 · 27/04/2019 18:28

soyoubetterrun avonCallingBarksdale Constance Ephelia is gorgeous....so much to do there, the beaches are amazing and the water so clear and warm ...plenty of water sports to try and an incredible Spa
Great choice of food too...we really loved it ...fresh mango for breakfast and plenty of seafood ,( although it was Rosh Hashanah when we were there in September and place was overrun with very exuberant children!)
Definitely recommend a tour of the island with private driver and a visit to the local market in Victoria to see the real Seychelles
We ultimately preferred Constance Lemuria as it was slightly smaller and food even better and the plane journey from Mahe to Praslin was amazing
We're off to Maldives this September but would love to return to Seychelles one day

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/04/2019 08:27

Stopyourhavering64 thanksSmile
We’re doing Bird Island, Praslin, Le Digue and Mahe. It’s a real treat for us.

Stopyourhavering64 · 28/04/2019 09:36

AvoncallingBarksdale I'd recommend hiring a car for the day on Praslin...the speed limit is only 40kph! and the scenery is incredible plus the roads are fun to drive on ( they drive on left , so no issues there!) but quite a few steep hills to contend with ...dh love driving there!
We drove to Anse Lazio ( one of best beaches in the world) and had lovely seafood lunch ...also went to Vallee de Mai nature reserve which is definitely worth a visit- had a guided tour through the forest...real jungle , a bit like the land that time forgot!
Have a wonderful time, they are truly wonderful islands

Theredjellybean · 28/04/2019 15:24

Constance ephelia is on my short list.
We have upped budget greatly as decided we want two weeks and lots of space so looking for suites for us all.. We arw lucky my dp bonus will cover it easily.. And my dd2 will be alive (been a bit touch and go last couple of months) so frankly I don't care how much it costs... Us all together and safe and well... She will need quiet, and rest and doesn't want to many people about.. I will give her the moon on a stick of that is what she wants.. But luckily she just wants a family holiday.
Please come back and give updates all u lucky enough to be going in summer

ihatethecold · 28/04/2019 15:32

Are we talking crazy budgets to go the Seychelles?
We’ve spent 10k on a multi destination Florida in 2017 and that I felt was lots of money.
I’d love to go to a tropical island.
The Maldives is my bucket list for my 50th in 5 years

Hollowvictory · 28/04/2019 16:06

We loved the Maldives was £14k for 4 of us 10 nights

Stopyourhavering64 · 28/04/2019 16:40

We spent £12k for the 2 of us for the Seychelles, 2 yrs ago.
However it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we flew Emirates business class and half board at Constance Lemuria and Ephelia ...I'd also been diagnosed with a life limiting autoimmune disease, so though bugger it, life's too short ....lots of amazing memories to look back on now!

Stopyourhavering64 · 28/04/2019 16:44

This was view of the beach at Ephelia from one of the bars ....real bounty bar type beach ( in fact I think they filmed the bounty bar adverts on the Seychelles!)

Seychelles
scratchyfluffface · 28/04/2019 16:48

@Stopyourhavering64 we are looking at doing pretty much the same (same hotels) for our honeymoon. Can I ask what the prices were like when you were there (food and drink). We have 3 amazing honeymoon options and I am trying to differentiate between the 3!!

Stopyourhavering64 · 28/04/2019 16:59

scratchyfluffface we booked through trailfinders who had an amazing deal ...as it was our 30th wedding anniversary we got a substantial discount (40%) and free upgrade to half board....I think they did a similar deal if its your honeymoon ( also check out Travelbag who also are very competitive)
We probably spent another £2k Shock while we were there on drinks, lunches, excursions etc... we ate / drank very well( good wine/ lobster etc!!)....if you go to Lemuria you must have dinner 'on the rocks'

scratchyfluffface · 28/04/2019 18:29

@Stopyourhavering64 thanks so much for the tip!

Theredjellybean · 28/04/2019 18:55

We are spending 40k on six for two weeks over Christmas.. Flying business class but that bit is using dp points.
But... While we arw both high earners and my dp has what I think is indecent bonus... I would never spend that on a holiday usually.
This Yr though is different.. My dd has been seriously ill, we are looking at the next six months being full of exhausting treatment, and pretty emotional.
My dp just wants us all to have a rest and some sun and be together being pampered as my dd illness is taking huge toll on me, him, her sister and two step sisters... So when I said we might need a bit more in budget...he said no question...just book it.
So I did today... Constance ephelia...

Theredjellybean · 28/04/2019 18:56

But omg that is a lot of money

Stopyourhavering64 · 28/04/2019 19:22

Theredjellybean you will love Constance Ephelia...it did me a lot of good to totally chill when I was so ill
there are so many things to do ( if you want) or you can just chill on the day beds beside the numerous pools dotted around the resort
There are golf buggies to transport you ( I was unable to walk very far when I was there, so these were a godsend and the numerous waiters would bring me drinks/ food to our daybed!)
lots of variety for places to eat and 2 amazing beaches with powder soft sand...never made it to the spa, but it looked amazing
Have a fabulous time

Mrsmch123 · 28/04/2019 19:24
