Everywhere we hae looked won't accept families...or more to the point..babies.

All we want to do is to stay in a lush 5* hotel fri and sat night BUT everywhere we have tried won't accept families or claims to have no family rooms.

DH & I o want to get away for the weekend with dd (2) and ds(21 weeks). We have had a bad 5 months since ds's birth and want a break away for the 4 of us......Its also our 3 year wedding anniversary next week..and we want to chill before ds undergoes a major operation in a months time...

Does everywhere 5* discrimate against families wanting luxary..? Surely this shouldn't be allowed..? There would be uproar if they said Fat people can't stay here etc....

the burnside which is overlooking windermere??

DrNortherner · 10/07/2007 21:37

Shrigley Hall? Is lovely too.

Can't you tell I do this for a living?

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:38

Lucius - not yet No bugger wants our lovely damp, rains inside, crumbling end terrace with no garden. (can't think why...).

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:41

shhh - I just keep going through laterooms.com - kind of on the hour now - in the hope something will come up! It's a good website because you can tailor the search and the reviews of previous customers are sometimes very telling! I keep going to book at Newby Bridge Hotel, but the reviews are mostly scathing!

Trip Advisor is another good website because you can see the reviews and then search for the dates you need and it looks through lots of different search engines - have found lower prices searching this way.

I had my heart set on the Low Wood Hotel but (a) it's booked out and (b) would have been horribly expensive...

Lucycat · 10/07/2007 21:42

oh bugger dottydot

I've been looking out for appropriate people at newly sold houses near me!

supertrouper · 10/07/2007 21:42

What about the Quay Hotel and Spa in Conwy, North Wales? Its 5 star. we got a room for £105, rather than the qoted rate. We also got upgraded to a penthouse suite worth £275. It was a lovely hotel, overlooking the sea/ estuary. The spa was the best I have ever been in. There were ots of families there too.

Lucycat · 10/07/2007 21:42

soory it's me, changed my name back!

Dottydot · 10/07/2007 21:43

thought it was you!

shhhh · 11/07/2007 14:17

any success doty..? BTW did you get the job..?

Well we have given up,also looked at places for next weeks as its our 3rd year wedding anniversary but nothing. Our fault. We always decide to late.

Northerner, lol at not allowing kids at a mitchelin starred restaurant..! In fact dd was 6 months old when we ate at one in fuerventura . She was vey well behaved. We want to take her and ds to claridges if we ever get to london! Or even Gordons "kid" friendly restaurant as I think he may be offened if we turned up with a packed lunch for dd Crackers,Yoggie, and ritzens (aka crackers, yoghurt and raisens) Oh not to mention the pooh bear bar !

Does annoy me slightly because I understand how you do want "couple" only places but it seems the kids places are dumps..as though quality goes out of he window once you have kids.

Thanks though everyone for checking. Will keep those in mind and BOOK IN ADVANCE..!

Has no-one mentioned Holbeck Gyll yet? That is 5* and has lovely spa

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:19

p.s. didnt really rate the Low Wood

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:19

But the drunken duck pub is fantastic - food is amazing - probably the unhealthiest you're ever going to eat but sooooo goood!!!

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:21

Can also recommend both Craxton Wood and I got married at the Chester Grosvenor - very plush - but the Craxton much friendlier and relaxed.

DrNortherner · 11/07/2007 14:23

Shh mentions Holbeck Ghyll earlier in the thread as she wanted to eat in their super restaurant.

It is not 5 star though, only 4 (albeit 4 red ones!)

Unfortunatley Cumbria do not have a 5 star hotel.

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:24

Oh, it comes up as 5* on SLH. Never been so I dont know what it's like but it seems nice.

Think CHester a better idea though

DrNortherner · 11/07/2007 14:26

Whats SLH?

Deffo only 4 star

The red stars means in the top 100 of all UK 4 star's. Normal satrs are black.

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:27

thanks for clarifying that point DrN

DrNortherner · 11/07/2007 14:32

Oops sorry, are you a traevl agent? Are you a name changer?

I'm confused.......

binkleandflip · 11/07/2007 14:36

No, not travel agent!!

Just my dh was going on about us going to H.G. and it being 5* one that he can get rates on from SLH.

So now, it appears, he's trying to trick me into slumming it at a four star !!!!

The shame how could I ever show my face again???

boomie · 11/07/2007 14:43

Been to The Samling twice and it is divine - one of my fave hotels and the food is gorgeous. Have you checked availability - I'm sure they are family friendly.

Dottydot · 11/07/2007 14:44

Well I'm reporting in live from the car park of the place I've got my interview - in 10 minutes' time!!!!

Haven't booked anywhere yet - will keep looking and definitely make a decision by tomorrow..!

shhhh · 11/07/2007 14:55

get in there dotty..punctuality is always a good sign . Good luck btw!!!

Don't think the samling likes kids either....

LOL at your dh bl&f..! Get him told..! Yes northerner the holbeck was checked and full..apart from a house they have access to..BUT it didn't sound as good iykwim. BUT they did offer to give us a listening service for ds & dd BUT theres no way dh or I would agree to that..to posessive im afraid.
