It's a lot cheaper than UK
are they similar?
I don't mind driving over to Germany

Yes we’ve done de kempervennen in Holland twice and going to Belgium this year. They’re great and we’ve had brilliant holidays each time - and much cheaper even adding on tunnel/ferry costs.

MozzchopsThirty · 03/03/2019 20:27

Great thanks
Would you recommend the one you've been to in Holland?
I don't mind which we go to as long as it's not France Hmm
Do you drive over? How long does it take you?

We have, but in France. Much cheaper and the weather has been amazing.

Going to the one at Disney this year.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 03/03/2019 20:35

My friends swear by Belgium and France! Repeat visitors. I don't really know why we haven't been... *scuttle off to investigate

MozzchopsThirty · 03/03/2019 20:36

There's one at Disney????

Wonder which is easier to get to by ferry?
I don't do the tunnel

We went to de kempervennen which was fab and is near the Dutch / Belgian border and about an hour and a half from Maastricht. We got the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland overnight. You need to book a cabin overnight but the kids were so excited to sleep on a boat. De Kempervennen was supposed to be 1.5 hrs drive but more like 2 in traffic but once you are outside Rotterdam the motorways are easy. There are centre parcs nearer to the port which I want to try

poorbuthappy · 04/03/2019 11:49

We did Eiperhide last year and it was fab. Day out at Efteling too.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/03/2019 15:02

Mine are 14 & 9

Any recommendations on which would be better?
And also is Belgium or Netherlands easier to get to / drive in??

Rarely go short haul and never driven that far in Europe so sorry for so many questions

Definitely Vossermeren in Belgium has a massive lake and loads of watersports, would be great for those ages.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/03/2019 15:17

@poorbuthappy looks great, would it be suitable for older ones

@User165443456 how did you get there?

poorbuthappy · 04/03/2019 15:48

Mine are 14 and 10...they all really enjoyed it! And I didn't fell ripped off with the food, even for 5 of us. There's an Aldi about 10 mins drive away which is where the wine came from!
We are about to book Duinrell for this year as it seems we love a water park and a theme park...I'm amazed it's taken us so long to get to get there to be honest!

Jedimindreader · 04/03/2019 17:02

I really liked the look of Parc Zaandvort which is right on the beach and one of the closest to Hook of Holland, I think it was about 45min drive. I didn't choose it in the end as I had a 3 yr old and thought some of the others were more like UK Centerparcs. There's also a similar group called Landal which have Parks in the UK and in Europe.

User165443456 · 04/03/2019 17:05

Ferry from Hull or Harwich. It's not even far from Calais. Very easy.

BigGlasses · 04/03/2019 17:09

We went to Port Zelande in The Netherlands. It was nice but not like centreparcs UK I didn't think, less to do on site. There did seem to be lotsof water sports though, my kids were a little young for that. The kids liked it though and enjoyed the experience of going across on the ferry.

gallicgirl · 04/03/2019 17:10

They are so easy to get to from Calais. We've been to Lac D'Ailette which is about 2.5 hours (get refurbished accommodation).
Have been to Les Ardennes which is about 4 hours I think because it's pretty much the other side of Belgium but still an easier drive than 4 hours in the uk. It's very hilly and good for outdoor activities.
We've also stayed at Sunparks at De Haan which is part of the same group but a bit smaller and cheaper.
The Dutch sites look amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to drive. I reckon from Class to the Dutch border is about 1.5 hours, maybe 2 hours at the most.

gallicgirl · 04/03/2019 17:11

that's Calais, not Class!

MozzchopsThirty · 04/03/2019 19:16

So my best option would be to stay in Dover, get the ferry over then it's a few hours drive into Belgium yes??

It's just me with the dcs

We've never done uk centerparcs as it's too expensive but they love bluestone
Mine will be happy with a great pool / slides and bikes

Definitely stay over here the night before.
We left very very early (South Wales) so a good trek to Folkestone on a Monday morning with a massive accident on the M25 making us late.
Traffic the other side not great. Choice between Brussels and Antwerp to drive through and they are both as bad as each other. We got to CP about 4 hours later than planned.

Can I ask why you won't do the tunnel? Obv you can ignore but it's so much easier and quicker than ferry.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/03/2019 19:35

@poorbuthappy an also South Wales so would make a fun start staying in Dover
Why did you do Folkestone? Was it still to Calais?

I just don't do tunnels, if I was stuck in one for any longer than driving through in a matter of minutes I'd have a total meltdown

Just lost a huge post....Sad
The journey this side is crap and it's always nicer to get the 7am train/ferry without having to have left the house at 3

poorbuthappy · 04/03/2019 19:50

I love planning Europe drive holidays. Grin

MozzchopsThirty · 04/03/2019 20:23

@poorbuthappy I'll be glad of some help!!!

I can plan a trip to Asia for the 3 of us no problem but a road trip to Europe is terrifying!!!

OP posts:
poorbuthappy · 04/03/2019 20:31

No problem!! Grin

MozzchopsThirty · 05/03/2019 12:02

@poorbuthappy

So have I got this right?

Travel to Dover
Stay over
Ferry Dover - Calais
Drive Calais into Belgium

Which park did you say you'd done? Would it be ok for us? Bikes & good pool ?
