Who is the best to fly with? Jet2 orRyanair.

We are off to the Algarve in August and need to book flights. The 2 cheapest I have found are Ryanair and then Jet2. Do you have any recommendations as to which is the better company? We have used Jet2 (which was fine) before but not Ryanair. Thank you

For the love of god do not book Ryanair! Dh got delayed by 7 hours last (and only time) we used them.

I’ve flown with Jet2 for over 15 years as they were the only company flying from my local airport to where my family in Germany live. in that time had one delayed flight. Their luggage allowance is generous both for cabin and check in bags, their planes are comfortable and their cabin staff helpful and friendly. The route was taken over by Flybe just over a year ago. Planes are propellor jobbies and look old and are shabby inside. Bag allowance stingy and staff not as nice. Reliability is hit and miss too. Out of the two choices you have I’d pick jet2 with no hesitation.

Cheap isn't always better. First things first compare the actual cost, inclusive of luggage etc. Secondly, do any other airlines go there? The all in ticket cost may be not much off the cost of cheap airline plus all the add ons they charge.

All airlines can suffer delays. Without the reason for the delay, it's really impossible to 'blame' the airline.

Touch wood I've not had trouble with either yet, though I've used Jet2 a lot more.

They do both have arsy booking sites that try and confuse/threaten you into paying more through careful design (baggage types, "you may not get to sit together unless you pay more to prebook" etc), though Ryanair's is the more evil of the two.

Both of them are budget airlines (obviously) and both will be subject to delays on takeoff, landing, parking, baggage handling as the way they get so cheap is to have contracts with the airports that allow the airports to override them by basically anyone else.

I'd lean towards Jet2 as the staff are less stressed, and they don't seem to have the full corporate moneypinching arseholeness about them that Ryanair do.

I will not travel with Ryan Air again. Their utter contempt for their customers means I choose to take my money elsewhere. Putting on additional luggage fees AFTER you have booked (albeit that I was refunded, but only after a huge online backlash). Sneaky additional charges - really why else would you make customers click for outward AND return luggage - if you take it out with you you clearly need to bring it back home!

I have not travelled with Jet2 so can't comment on them, but I have no plans to use Ryan Air again - fortunately Easyjet seem to cover the same routes.Any wonder Ryanair profits are down.....

Jet2 are excellent. Have flown with them many times and cannot fault them. I only wish they flew from my local airport.

Amazonian27 · 19/01/2019 15:22

No brainier definitely Jet2 never had a proven with them. I find Ryanair far too stressful with everyone not wanting to part with cabin baggage etc etc. If it’s just a small price different go with Jet2.

User079641 · 19/01/2019 16:04

I won’t fly with RyanAir anymore. It’s always a horrible experience and once you’ve added on the extras they charge for everything it’s not even that much cheaper. Jet2 is fine.

HermioneWeasley · 19/01/2019 16:08

Jet2 definitely

MummaGiles · 19/01/2019 16:09

Jet2 without a shadow of a doubt

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 16:12

Whereas I must have flown with Ryanair about 100 times over the years and am yet to have a negative experience.

I'd go for whichever was offering the best and cheapest baggage allowance, OP.

GreyGardens88 · 19/01/2019 16:14

I've personally never had any problems with Ryanair or Jet2, however due to all the recent problems with Ryanair I would go with Jet2

Madbengalmum · 19/01/2019 16:18

Jet2, ryanair are abysmal

getback · 19/01/2019 16:21

I would never fly Ryanair if there was a choice!

Accountant222 · 19/01/2019 16:31

I refuse to fly with Ryanair, Jet2 are fantastic

Tentomidnight · 19/01/2019 16:34

Jet2 definitely. Never Ryanair, awful experience!

Bombardier25966 · 19/01/2019 16:35

Regularly fly with Ryanair, no problems.

Those that moan loudest about Ryanair are either infrequent flyers (or have never even used them), or incapable of following simple instructions.

loobylou10 · 19/01/2019 16:39

I'd pay more to travel Jet2

CoffeeTableBook · 19/01/2019 16:45

I would rather not go on holiday than fly Ryanair again.

CoffeeTableBook · 19/01/2019 16:46

I am a frequent flyer and can follow instructions Hmm my issue is their contempt towards their passengers, the service, the attitude, etc etc... if that's ok with you @Bombardier25966

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 19/01/2019 16:49

Jet2 will be a much nicer experience so if there isn't a huge difference in the cost I would choose Jet2 100%

LyraBelaqua · 19/01/2019 19:45

Thank you for your comments everyone. There is a £200 price difference, I haven’t looked properly at baggage etc yet but I think I’m willing to part with the extra cash for a bit of a nicer experience.

Never had a problem with either, but much better baggage allowance with Jet2

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/01/2019 20:07

I fly with Ryanair a lot. It’s a very budget experience. If you know the rules and stick to them it’s fine, and you can get great deals on flights, but you are practically hurled into the cabin.

freezinguplands · 19/01/2019 20:08

I like Jet2, it has friendly staff. It's my favorite basic airline. It was based at what was our local airport so we used it quite a bit.
