Where is your favourite place on the Costa Del Sol?

We have just come back from Nerja, (first time on the Costa Del Sol), and loved it. Frigiliana we thought was gorgeous also.

We plan to return very soon to the CDS, maybe later in the year, so we are looking for ideas on where else to go. Any ideas please?

I’m on the Costa as we speak and love it. In the 80s and 90s touristy towns like Fuengirola and benalmadena got a bit grotty but in the last 15 years is so they have really been spruced up and the old towns made the best of. Fuengirola is particularly nice these days with the pedestrianised old town centre covered in brilliant tapas bars and terraces. Great for kids too. It’s not as low rise as Nerja but has a better mix of Spanish - the Spanish come here on holiday too - and other nationalities. La Cala is also very pretty and low rise but is more British. But the whole coast is pretty good these days plus a great place for, as you have found, visiting the white villages. Nearby where I am is mijas which is similar in vibe to Frigiliana.

Ooh, off to nerja on Friday!

Sorry to derail, but any tips Crumbs? We're staying very near the balcon.

babycakes1010 · 21/07/2018 08:29

Fuengirola...absolutely love it there

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/07/2018 12:21

Nerja is vile and don't even consider Burriana Beach... >

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/07/2018 12:22

Right you need to go Paradise Bar, the mocktails they do for the children are wonderful and not to mention the grown up ones. Good for breakfast, and maybe a burger for lunch but over and above that it is kind of brown food. IIYKWIM

Right at the end of the beach there is great bar and restaurant caleed the Rincon, great place for sundowners and watching people coming back from dives.

If your children are into the water, the dive school do resort dives and snorkelling trips.

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/07/2018 13:04

Up in town there is a valled the Buddah bar it is a rooftop bar and the coctkails arrive beautifully dressed.

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/07/2018 13:04

Do not eat in Jose Cruz, vile food and vile staff.

LoveManyTrustfew · 21/07/2018 13:05

Ayos is a bit of a tourist trap and last time I looked cash only, but my brother said it wasn't too bad.

TwoGinScentedTears · 21/07/2018 17:18

Why thank you very much @LoveManyTrustFew

NotPennysBoat · 21/07/2018 20:40

Estepona is a gorgeous little town. Still very Spanish, lovely long wide beach, plenty of bars/restaurants. It also has a very picturesque marina. Days out to Ronda, Casares, Duqesa...

Redland12 · 21/07/2018 21:03

I absolutely love Marbella. The hustle and bustle, the beaches, people watcting especially in Puerto Banus, fabulous walk all along the promenade on the evening. So many restaurants. The atmosphere there is great. Friendly people too.

Hairydilemma · 21/07/2018 21:07

Ooh, I’m off to Nerja next week. Lovemany, some great tips thank you.

OP - never been to the CDS before so I’m afraid I can’t help you with your initial question, have blatantly just jumped on here for the Nerja tips Blush.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:48

Meant to add, the Rincon for sit down in the evening is not cheap, but the food is sublime.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:49

I am sitting up in bed, waiting for sleep to claim me so you are now going to get a stream of conciousness.....Grin

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:50

If you are self catering the Rocky's is really good for pizza to take back up and just sit on the balcony and chill.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:51

H2O historically has not been cheap.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:52

The bar, not the drink.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:53

As you stand facing the beach with Whim mini mart on your left, the merendero to your right is very good.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:53

Buy as little as you can in Whim they are thieving gits.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:54

Up on the Balcon as you face the church the bar on your left does fab tapas.

LoveManyTrustfew · 22/07/2018 22:55

does (sp) sorry
