If you had a one off £10k to spend on a holiday. Family of 4, DS13 & DD8 where would you go?

What do you like doing?

I'd be straight back to Belize: friendly people, great weather (outside hurricane season), crystal clear sea, the meso- American reef ,to swim, dive and snorkel, among tropical fish, turtles, rays, dolphins. Great food. Mayan ruins. Caving, zip lining through rainforests, cave tubing.
Palm trees, blue skies, live at a human pace.

If I could get it all for £10k I'd go to Japan. Amazing history/culture, cities, beaches, mountains. Been to other parts of Asia, but not Japan. Think it'd be absolutely amazing - once in a life time. I'd love to go.

Bouledeneige · 26/03/2018 20:40

I'd probably go to Japan again in a shot, or a safari. But it really depends how you feel about long haul flights and/or your 8 year old in tropical places. If neither of those bothered you Id consider maybe Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Australia or the Carribbean. Last summer I took my teens on a road trip round California which was great.

The younger one is probably a bit young for a safari.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/03/2018 20:43

I didn’t enjoy Japan. USA for me.

swimster01 · 26/03/2018 20:43

I would go to Borneo or Costa Rica

ReinettePompadour · 26/03/2018 20:43

At that age mine would have loved Universal Studios in Florida along with a trip to Busch Gardens and Kennedy Space centre. You would comfortably do that and have change from 10k.

BikeRunSki · 26/03/2018 20:44

NZ, to visit my brother

violet0805 · 26/03/2018 20:45

I'd love to do west coast of USA. San Francisco , Los Angeles, Vegas .. and go to the original Disneyland in California 😊

Ilikesweetpeas · 26/03/2018 20:50

I’d go back to Florida! We had a great time there last year and I’m currently planning another trip for maybe 2019 Smile

Hughpughbarneymagrew · 26/03/2018 21:04

New Zealand! But only because DH and I have already been to Japan.

Dangerousmonkey · 26/03/2018 21:06

It's a smaller budget but probably NZ.

88mph · 26/03/2018 21:08

We would hire a van and tour Europe. Or we'd go to the States and travel round visiting various friends and family.

halfwitpicker · 26/03/2018 21:08

Oz probably

Dvg · 26/03/2018 21:09

New Zealand or Tokyo, or both XD

i would swim with dolphins, do some water sports, visit an aquarium and a Zoo and.. stuff

Have also heard great things about Australia.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 27/03/2018 23:41

Hawaii

Getabloominmoveon · 27/03/2018 23:55

Seconding Borneo or Costa Rica for amazing nature and wildlife, and fabulous beaches. Kids will love it and you don't spend loads of money once you're there. We did East Coast USA with our kids at that age and they also loved it - NYC to Adirondacks, Boston, Vermont, Rhode Island and down to Washington DC. 3 weeks, a fab trip, but SO expensive!

Annebronte · 28/03/2018 17:35

Around £10K will get you a fantastic tailor made two week trip to South East Asia or Sri Lanka with Selective Asia or similar companies. Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka are all great places to travel with kids.

budgiegirl · 28/03/2018 19:08

Last Christmas we had a few nights in Miami, a 7 day cruise, a few nights in the Keys, then 4 nights in New York on the way home. It came to just under £10000 for 5 of us ( 2 adults, 3 teens), including car hire and spending.

londonloves · 28/03/2018 19:12

Ne Zealand via Singapore for a felong day's for theme parks. NZ scenery and outdoor activities so amazing.

londonloves · 28/03/2018 19:13

*few days theme parks

JoJoSM2 · 28/03/2018 19:30

Japan is on my wish list so maybe there.

But I do love the Maldives so an island resort would be amazing. The children could enjoy snorkelling on the coral reef and a range of water sports, dolphin watching etc It's extremely peaceful there too so the ultimate place to relax.

Habeebtea · 28/03/2018 19:41

Definitely agree with Sri Lanka - it's so beautiful and so much to see and do. The people are amazing also

RomaineCalm · 28/03/2018 19:46

Cuba, South Africa or Sri Lanka.

Enjoy the planning and your trip.

MissSueFlay · 28/03/2018 19:55

A tour of some of the sub-Saharan game reserves - Kruger in South Africa; Chobe in Botswana; Serengeti in Tanzania; Masai Mara in Kenya...
There is absolutely nothing like driving through the bush and spotting the amazing wildlife. And some of the lodges in the reserves are fantastic.

JoJoSM2 · 28/03/2018 21:01

I'm surprised people are so complementary about Sri Lanka- great food and great people but I found it disturbingly poor and too busy.
